Hello everybody,

I'm currently running a Shining South campaign and I'm looking for books to read to expand my knowledge of this area. So far I’ve read the Shining South accessory book, the FR Campaign Setting, Serpent Kingdoms for a little snake-flavored stuff and the Underdark accessory book.

Are there any good novels that take place in the Shining South that I could read to get a glimpse of what life looks like in the area? I’m mostly interested in Dambrath since my PCs are currently stuck there. Eventually, the PCs will flee Dambrath so I’m also interested in places like the Shaar, Luiren, the Great Rift, the Golden Water area and the Underdark.

The PCs will be exploring local Sarrukh ruins for lost treasures so I’m also interested in books that deal with the snakes.

Is there anything to do in Halruaa? It looks a bit boring. Are there any good novels that could help me elaborate interesting adventures in the area?

Thanks for your help,

Gnarl

As well as Elaine's trilogy, some more revelant sources:

Luiren: GAZ8 The Five Shires* (for the Mystara setting, but major insight into Luiren)
The Great Rift: FR11 Dwarves Deep* pp. 46–50
Delzimmer and Khôltar: "Elminster Speaks" (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/archfr/es)
Halruaa: Secrets of the Sages (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/es/20030514a)
Underdark: Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark*

:PSomeone posted awhile ago about an incident concerning the Drow attack on Halrua in those novels, and something about the Halruans using "Fäerie Music" to scare the Drow away.

Does anyone remember the details of that?

it was in "the floodgate" , the wizard girl "opened" a connection to the plane of the dark feys ( or was she just emulating the sounds?) , the "music" of the dark fey scarred the crinti ( not Drow) away, the crinti have a superstitious fear of the dark fey

Somebody, on these boards about amonth or two ago, posted the entire encounter in a spoiler right out of the book, but I can't find it anywhere now. It might have been in the Elven Netbook thread, but that thing has gotten so long it would be an ordeal to pick through. :(
