Olare,
I was wondering, has anyone put together a regional entry for inhabitants of Sigil? I have poked around some of the Planescape fan sites but couldn't find any, though I didn't really dig.
I know that there are some FR fans (best fans out there) that are also Planescape junkies, it's to you i look to :weep: . I want to play a Sigil native but don't know anything about the city itself (other than the dinky write-up in Planar Handbook. If you guys have a website or have made this very thing yourself, gimme a response.
Thanks,

I'd say all of them can be found in that city since it is a planar meeting place from all over the cosmologies. :)

One could almost argue that each Ward of Sigil is its own Region.

Of course, if you're still in touch with the 2e interpretation of the Cage, then I'd also add racial entries for races that are from worlds in other settings as well. They're all likely regional, and they are likely all to meet at Sigil at some point.

For regional feats, I'd look at the existing metropolitan entries, such as Waterdeep. How about Artist, Cosmopolitan, Education, Mercantile Background, Silver Palm, Smooth Talk, Knifefighter, Luck of Heroes, Street Smart, Thug, and a few others. I'm not sure if a too big list would be a bit unbalancing.

You can't find just anything in Sigil, though, not enough to warrant a regional feat. For example, forest and desert related feats, or Horse Nomad aren't really appropriate.

Sigil is so cosmopolitan that you could have conceivably anything there, though regional feats associated with extreme environments might be a stretch, though Sigil would have plenty of portals to such places. I would say that each of the Wards of the city is unique enough to qualify as its own region. I'd also include the Slags, and some of the districts within the larger wards as their own regions as well.

If you want more info on Sigil, you're in the right place. Planewalker.com has a massive guide to Sigil for download, though we won't be back online for another day or two. However, given that I wrote that guide, I'm willing to send you the document if you send me an email or an AIM message. It's about 100 pages or so last I looked, and it'll be in .doc format rather than the pdf we have on Planewalker.

That'll give you a good idea of what the various Wards of Sigil are like, and what sort of regional feats you might want to apply to each of them. It's also much more detailed than the 3e WotC version in the Planar Handbook since I didn't have page limits when writing. And they don't contradict each other either, I made certain of that. Both of them are set approx 5 years after the Faction War.

Since sigil is basically a melting pot of races from all over the multiverse, could we just allow any regional feat in existance?

That's what I said. :)

First, I am not a programmer, I'm a biologist, so my explanation might not be wholly accurate or technical in any way:

The reason we went down was because some user in China apparently was using some wierd toolbar that had some bizarre interaction with the way the site was coded, and caused some insane levels of bandwidth usage and site errors. We've since banned users of that toolbar and had to rewrite some site code before our host would let us go back up, we're already a resource hog given our traffic which has only gone up since we won an Ennie this year.

We'll be up soon. I'm both DM'ing for and dating our head programmer, so I'll pester her. :D

No, not in my opinion. Treetopper? Foe Hunter? Ethran? Forester? Horse Nomad? Stormheart? Survivor?

Others are questionable too. I think you should focus on regional feats that other metropolises give.

There is an entire region that is dominated by Elves, which could easily have Treehopper and Forester. Any area around a long-standing portal to rough areas of the Elemental Plane of Water or other planar waterways could have Stormheart. The same goes for Horse Nomad...

Basically, with countless portals to everywhere in the multiverse, it is utterly a DM's call, but I'd say almost anything. Ethran would be the only example of your above list that I wuold say "No" to as to being a regional feat for Sigil, because the Witches' source of power is their homeland, in great part, so they do not often venture outside of it for extended periods of time.

Other metropoli don't have areas like the Slags, the Kingdom of the Dead, Undersigil, and the Lower Ward. None of the regional feats from Prime-based Metropoli could come close to encompassing the sheer possibility of Sigil.

By your reasoning, Dan, you could argue that a place like, say, Waterdeep should give Stormheart because there's a sea next to it and I'm sure the city has plenty of seasoned seamen. Or that Silverymoon should give Survivor because the area around the city is wild and dangerous.

Regional feats should be something very intrinsic, something which the people in the area are really good at. You can find good magicians from basically every town in Faerūn, but not every region gives Arcane Schooling or Magical Training. Similarly, Sigil does have its small forested regions and portals to watery places, but are these significant enough to warrant a regional feat? Should I allow someone from Waterdeep to take Treetopper because there are trees in Waterdeep and most likely there are a few people in the city who possess the feat?

Shmeska- I'm just happy now I'm not the only biologist (well kind of if one includes neuroscience) here on the boards.

Oh yeah and the regional feats have to be something that someone learns there not just that someone uses there. Mula I think you are right on.

If they spent much of their time in the trees around Waterdeep, I don't see why not.

And you hit the nail on the head with this: Regional feats should be something very intrinsic, something which the people in the area are really good at.

The people of Sigil, as a whole, are so cosmopolitan that there is nothing in particular that they can be generalized to be really good at. Geography does not define regions any more than culture; without a population of living beings in a geographical region, without a culture there, then there would be no natives to have regional feats.

The Sigillian populace are not really "known" for being "really good" at anything in particular. If anything, their defining characteristic is their diversity itself.
