Skip Williams as a novel author [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-23-04, 07:53 PM I have noticed that whenever Skip Williams has been a co-author of a D&D book, it has been of the highest quality. Examples are worth stating: all three Core Rules Books, FR Campaign Setting, Draconomicon, Enemies and Allies, and probably a few others (The Magic of Faerun is very good too, but he wasn't a main composer of it). Skip is also the 'Sage' of Sage Advice. Being knowledgable about rules is not enough to be a good author, but he has shown he can do more than that: He wrote my favorite 2nd edition campaign The Axe of Dwarvish Lords. Therefore, I think he'd make a wonderful novel writer. If he were to publish one, I'd buy in hardback as soon as it came out. Does anyone agree?

For me, 'tis not enough to be a good writer of sourcebook material. For example, I like Ed Greenwood's source info on the Realms. However, I am not a huge fan of his fiction... No disrespect intended; it's just that his fiction writing style is not to my liking.

I'm a bit on the picky side, perhaps. There's two individual writers, and a writing pair, that can convince me to buy a book simply because their names are on it. And that's it.

I certainly intend no disrespect to Skip Williams by saying this -- he has done a very good job in the past. But it's not enough to make me buy a book -- it has to look interesting, too.
