Considering that slavery and the slave trade is a major issue in the Realms, I'm trying to catalog all the nations and city-states across Faerun who engage in or accept slavery (not including Thayan enclaves). If we keep a running list going here, it can be a resource for everyone.

I'll start:

Amn
Calimshan
Chessenta
Menzoberranzan
Mulhorand
Mulmaster
Skullport
Teshendale
Thay
Unther
Voonlar
Yulash
Zhentil Keep

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. There are definitely quite a few more. Anyone? :)

Tashalar
Dambrath

Others will hit me the closer I am to my books.

The city-state of Hillsfar, along the Moonsea, enslaves non-humans captured in/near the city, then forces them to fight in its arena. Not exactly slave *trade*, but slavery nonetheless.

Would you consider Narfell a slave state? Prisoners that the Nar tribes might take could be forced into slavery, it seems to me.

There's also the other drow cities of Ched Nasad and Ust Natha

So excitable, advocate...

I can't think of any other countries as involved in slavery as those listed.

Hmm, for some reason I thought the list would be far longer. What about all those nations between Faerun and Kara-Tur, like Var the Golden or Semphar? I'm sure some of those are slave states.

Chondath for sure...

And though I'm not 100% sure, I'll bet a +5 sword that at least half of the independants aroung the Lake of Steam, as well as the countries to the south of there, also practice it. The Lake of Steam area in particular must as they are on the route between Calimsham and Chondath which should be a heavy slave route.

There are slave trading routes through the Shaar, the Dragon Coast (Westgate most likely has legal slavery), as well as the Nelanther Islands.

Given the various elements that make up Var the Golden (agrarian culture, greedy merchants, fetching aristocracy, ruled secretly by a blue dragon), there's a good shot that there may be institutionalized slavery there as well.

Semphar is made up of small farming communities, so I don't think there's much in the way of slavery there.

According to LoD, the city of Shade has slaves. A few humans and a multitude of orcs and the like.

unfortunately, my PC was incapable of downloading the sample chapter, anyways. :hoppingma: *begins to snarl at the monitor*

actually, i don't know that much about Ched Nasad, i just assumed that because it was populated and governed by Drow, it would support slavery.

Oebel, or whatever it is called (the city in which 'The Black Buquet' takes place)!
