| Mr_Miscellany09-06-07, 11:00 PM | ...regardless of the edition you play with, what's going on in your Realms Campaign? If you're up to a challenge, how about telling us what's going on in your game, in 100 words or less. Here we go: In my Realms Campaign, my players are currently engaged in a battle in the Spine of the World, north and east of the Cold Wood, in the great hill-strewn gap between the Ice Spires and the Ice Mountains. There, one of their number has been killed and the rest remain to fight the Tarrasque! But this is no ordinary Tarrasque, rather it is one summoned forth in a great sacrificial blood-bath by many now dead worshippers of Malar the Beastlord. Your turn! :D |
| Balafre09-06-07, 11:12 PM |:dancin::clap: 3rd level group just fled from a group of Tyr followers at BlackFeather Brige wanting them to go to Harrowdale to be judged for the murder of a Cleric of Tyr they are currently in Scardale looking for a Sorcerer of Cyric who could be the one behind the murder! the half orc barbarian of the group has infiltrated the Zhentish garrison hoping to get some infos but he doesnt know that he is the one being spied on :schemes: |
| Mordayn09-07-07, 04:52 AM | My players are currently lost in the plane of shadows trying to get back to Faerun after completing Cormyr: Tearing of the weave. |
| MarkusTay6309-07-07, 12:32 PM | My players have been hired as bodygaurds for a Caravan. They do not know it is a Thayan Caravan. The Caravan is being lead by a non-Red Wizard of Thay, an extremely rare anomaly (his backstory explains why). There are also 2 Thayan Knights and two priests of Kossuth (all disguised) traveling with them. The caravan originally left Nethentir and travelled to Telflamm, where it commisioned an independent trading vessel to carry them to Raven's Bluff, where they hired the PCs for the trip up the coast to Mulmaster. The 'real' gaurds for the caravan, a group of 30 Gnolls (well-trained as rangers) were landed some miles south of the city by Thayan ship, and have been moving discreetly at night up the coast as well, to rendezvous with the caravan just north of the city. The whole premise is that the Thayans are delivering a powerful artifact to the High Blade (Sefaril Uoumdolphin) from his wife, the Tharchioness of Eltabbar, Dmitra Flass (she's moving some of her more important items out of Thay, in case she needs a secure 'hideaway'). The plot thickens - the whole reason for so much subterfuge is that the Thayans do not want any outside agancies to interfere, since many of their ships are being sunk in the Dragon Reach by Zhentil Keep, amongst others. However, while in Raven's Bluff, a Harper agent becomes suspicious of the group, and follows the caravan from the city. On the third day, the charactes have noticed a large force tailing them (the gnolls) at night, but keeping a safe distance. They told the Caravan master (the disguised Thayan Wizard), but he just blew them off. The Harper has also become aware of the gnolls, but they have not noticed him yet. All this fun, and the PCs are stuck in the middle. :D |
| ShadezofDis09-07-07, 01:09 PM | In the game I'm running right now: The PCs have been hired by an independent operative who's associated with the Eldreth Veluuthra (very independent) to scout out a location for a horse ranch in the Lake of Drifting Stars region of Turmish. (The operative is posing as a half-elven minor nobleman from Sembia) They've gone into the Cloakwood (south of the Lake) and have encountered several tribes of kobolds. This has come as quite a surprise to the PCs because kobolds haven't ever really been in the Cloakwood. Right now they are about the interrogate a captive kobold and then head for what appears to be the main kobold hold in the wood (they found a map when they encountered the first kobold tribe, well, more of a battle band but they were all from the same tribe). What the PCs don't know is that there has been a major war between the gnoll tribes, goblin tribes and kobold tribes in the Aphrunn Mountains, the kobolds getting the worst of it so far. I'm not really sure where they'll go after this, I plan on dropping in a few of the "greater plot" hooks next game, they'll find out about the greater war in the Mountains, a few hints as to why the lake is the Lake of Drifting Stars, an idea of where the humanoids are getting weaponry that far surpasses their technological level and maybe even a hint of the evil brewing in the county that boarders where they set out from. :) |
| Bonzai09-07-07, 01:56 PM | I am DM'ing a campaign that is admittedly my attempt to get incarnum out of my system. This campaign has allowed me to try out all kinds of builds, and so far the players have been enjoying themselves (Lol, one did say that I am starting to make him hate incarnum after encountering some of these NPC's). Anyways, the story so far is, that Northern Impiltur is under attack, and has been mostly over run by a cabal of Cyricists. These Cyricists call themselves the Ebon Dawn, and have created an army of Lost, and impressed many of the Hobgoblin tribes of the Giantspire MT's into their service. Impltur is in a weekened state after all that has befallen it lattley. The Dragon Rage, Zhentish attacks, and the Rain of Tears. They were not prepared to face this threat so soon. Because of this, the Cyricists were able to make some major gains relativley unchecked. Now the Impiltarian army is facing them head on, and have the advantage of numbers. However, the Cyricists have been getting a steady stream of reinforcements, and the outcome is uncertain. Enter the Players. They happened to be in one of the Northern Impiltarian towns when it was attacked. They saved tha town, and have been investigating the threat ever since. The players have recently siezed an ancient fort that guards a pass through the giantspire Mt's. The Ebon Dawn has been using it to send it's troops into Impiltur. Last session, they secured the fort, and held it against a small legion of Ebon Dawn re-inforcements. However it cost the life of one of the party. Now they are going to set out, and find the Ebon Dawn stronghold, located some where in Southern Narfell. |
| Mr_Miscellany09-07-07, 08:44 PM | 100 words, guys! ;) Ah but it's all good...it's very nice to see what everyone is doing. |
| BadCatMan09-07-07, 10:15 PM | 100 words? I'll try, but likely fail. Mainly I keep to canon because it gives me ideas. Then I fill in the gaps and spring off from there. The World: I help run an online pbp shared-world FR community, with a few dozen games across Faerun. Most are focused within one or two regions. Currently it's 1375, Year Of Risen Elfkin, and we're trying to launch a world-wide plot based on it, though it's really just a general theme of elves here and there, possibly risen. The Vast: The adventurers slew Alamondh, the mage-advisor of Procampur and freed the Thultyrl from his charms. Turns out he was a renegade Thayan and a necromancer. They were pronounced Heroes of Procampur for their efforts and became celebrities. Now they're trying to clean up some of Alamondh's old plots, like finding a false treasure in nearby Maerstar that was meant to lure away pesky adventurers with a lesser geased map, so now they have to deal with rival adventurers, including a suspiciously similar band of evil opposites, some mining dwarves, and the PHB Iconics. On a long-term scale, the mage is trying to get himself elected as Alamondh's replacement. There's corruption in the church of Kossuth, truths and mysteries to uncover around the church of Oghma, and dragons and Dragon Cultists warring in the mountains, and their seeking the mysterious Iron Dragon. And there's more of Alamondh's necromantic plots to uncover. I'll probably even tie it all together! Sword Coast South: The PCs are heading into the Wood of Sharp Teeth to find the lost archmage of Beregost, Thalantyr. They were ambushed by some very peculiar drow, who successfully convinced them that they were good and innocent, only for them to later find evidence of their brutal murders. And now a strange wolf is leading them off the trail... In the long-term, a diabolic taint is spreading across the land, emanating from events in Dragonspear Castle, and there's Netherese ruins and artifacts to uncover. Chessenta: An all-girl entertaining troupe has stopped in the small town of Gal and picked themselves up some male groupies and a wolf-riding female orc knight. The town is ruled by the meditating Great Mentos and his philosophy students Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma. A draconic monster (Bluespawn ambusher) was spotted lurking near the sheep, then tracked and slain and the party returned to town to get a reward and a feast (the orc PC ate the ambusher), neglecting to check to see if there were any more, even after Intelligence mentioned they live in packs. In fact, the bard used a wacky tale about destiny and love to send a Tchazzaran hoplite they didn't like off hunting after more monsters that they assumed didn't exist. And now the ground is shaking... In the long-term, they need to find a lot of treasure to pay off a debt that I let the have the business for. And deal with the gangsters and pirates that the debt is owed to by their deceased centaur boss. |
| Forest_Wanderer_Aerandir09-07-07, 10:49 PM | This online php of which you speak sounds good for someone who lives in a city where it seems like everyone blatently refuses to play FR. Or respect gnomes. |
| KnightoftheWhiteRose09-08-07, 11:55 AM | all the survivors of 4e have fled FR and now work at barns and noble selling 2e books out of their hatchbacks.:evillaugh |
| Mr_Miscellany09-08-07, 05:01 PM | C'mon, let's keep it on topic. So, who's next?? |
| captaincarot09-09-07, 07:10 AM | i've got one lot who are in cormyr at the time of the dragon crisis, azoun not dead yet, they are a bunch of purple dragons doing fringe type things and getting seriously battered by ghazneths. once azoun is dead they are off into the stonelands to pacify it. they don't know this. another group in waterdeep hunting down a murderer (actually a werewolf but dont tell em), it is preying on the peasants and poor people of the city. another group out of everlund who are having problems with orcs in the mountains, gnolls and goblins in the high forrest all attacking traders travelling to everlund, various groups of undead mysteriously turning up and wreaking havok with the local population, they don't have a clue yet that priests of velsharoon are behind it, other than the zombies with the strange brand on their chest. they think it's the zhentarim because they are seriously affecting trade into the city also early on i had them stop some zhent slave traders. and a group from essembra who are just about to start the mysteries of the moon sea module. |
| captaincarot09-09-07, 07:53 AM | i also have a rolemaster (with bits of spacemaster thrown in) game which has been running since 1985 where the party got flung back in time 7000 years at level one and the parties mage has just sent them on the errand which resulted in them being flung back the 7000 years in the first place. the first time they played it i played the mage as an npc, but convincing the players that they should have the conversation with themselves, which resulted in them being sent back for 7000 years of hell was rather interesting to say the least. the level 1 party don't know that it was them who sent them back in time in the first place because they now wear disguises to hide their true form which they ended up with 7000 years ago when they got genetically reengineered for the task. also having a cleric go back 7000 years meet a young boy and take him under his wing, then eventually have that young boy become the deity that the cleric worshiped 7000 years later before he was sent back through time was hilarious. the cleric through his teachings also ended up being the person who founded his own religion. |
| Gelcur09-09-07, 11:51 PM | I am currently DMing a party, 2 level 5s and 3 level 6s, online over OpenRPG. I also stick very much to canon and my campaigns fill in the gaps. The year is 1364 DR. Currently, the party is in the Yellow Snake Pass in the Sunset Vale. They are heading to Waterdeep to research an amulet the Cult of the Dragon uncovered. The amulet is one of a small number created by Sammaster. They are making haste while being stalked by Cultists and now attacked by Zhents. They recently found the Tome of Morning, a relic of Lathander, in the pass. It lay hidden in the rocky walls up in a gargoyles roost with some other items from the last person to carry the item. The cleric, a Lathanderite is currently carrying it and learning secrets. My 3E conversion for it is here. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=878908) |
| Borris09-10-07, 11:36 PM | 12th-level characters. Began in 1371. Now 1373. North-central Faerūn (Damara, Vaasa, Impiltur, Moonsea, Anauroch, Great Glacier). A small group of religious giants from all the clans in the Monster Manual (Hill, Stone, Frost, Fire, Cloud, Storm) has been gathering ancient artifacts from the time of Ostoria in a long-term plan to reinstate the long-lost empire, and bring back their race among the major civilizations of Faerūn. Three chaotic souls who value their freedom too much to be made citizens in an empire of ruthless giants, and a spirit shaman of Ulutiu fearing a possible return of Annam (who almost killed her god ages ago) and the potential destruction of her native Great Glacier, under which lie the ruins of much of Ostoria, have embarked on a journey to foil the giants' plans. They've recently reached the mythical kingdom of Hartsvale, where they've for the first time, met the giants they're chasing face-to-face. |
| Alediran09-11-07, 11:00 AM | 5 players playing 10th lvl characters, this moment I'm DMing City of the Spider Queen for them (chapter 2), during chapter 1 they stoped a Sharran plot to weaken/destroy Silverymoon's Mythal. One of my players planewalked to Kelemvor's realm to rescue the soul of a friend, he ended in the abyss with an army of kelemvorites who were marching at that time, to rescue that soul, wich was in a transport over the Styx he had to make a bargain with a devil that traveled with the small army (he is in a world of pain if he doesn't finds how to escape the bargain) |
| Laerekh_Jaelre09-11-07, 07:02 PM | DMing The Sunless Citadel and worked it into my FR campaign set in Cormyr. The party consist of level 2-3 characters. They have been hired by a Harper operative in Suzail to find out what happened to a group of Harpers who disappeared in the Sunless Citadel dungeon a month ago. Their success in completing this quest determines their own initiation into the Harper organization (so far they are passing with flying colors :) ). The group recently found a dragon-sized tome (minor-artifact) called Mystery of the Dragons. It's all about dragons and has a couple nice buffs. The reader must read it 8 full hours a day for 30 days straight to gain the benefits from the book. The druid in the group, who has an affinity for dragons hoping to one-day shapeshift into one, is having a hard time managing his time between his obligations to the adventure and trying to spend the necessary time to read the tome. |
| Yaeri09-12-07, 04:41 AM | We are currently in between two campaigns, in the old empires. Our party is 13th level and has just put a stop to a blue dracolich's reign of terror. (The party didn't fight the thing) At the same time, the cult of the dragon started falling appart with the destruction of Sammaster and the dracorage mythal. Afterwards, the party somewhat fell apart, everyone going their seperate ways. Pippa the pink-eyed gnome sorceress is looking into her draconic heritage, starting her search in her old town near the Akanapeaks, where according to divinations, the dragon whose blood runs in her veins must live. Neely Wildstar the elf arcane archer, tore herself away from the group, afraid to just keep losing more loved ones. She is somewhere in Methwood. Wasurena the elf druid went to Starmantle, where she found herself in the midst of a dispute between the elves and Westgate. Yaeri Storkfeather, the halfling rogue-wizard, has returned to Cimbar, where s'he is preparing for the things to come. The new campaign will start with a mistery, when a quarut arrives, to arrest them and a few new faces. For what crime, they don't know. Oh, and chances are, they are going to be in Cimbar when Tchazzar arrives. |
| Suin Bahhar09-12-07, 07:45 AM | One campaign is on hold now for a year. The party consisted of a male halfling druid of Mielikki (augmented summoner), a male halfling barbarian/fighter (used to be halforc, aspires warsling sniper prc now), a female human cleric/diviner of helm (battlecleric) and a female green elf (mixed parents so silverelf stats) sorceress/wildmage (blaster and face). The party of 8th level characters was guided by a regal spirit from a tower in Emtar in the Border Kingdoms to collect 4 pieces of a royal battlesuit. These are to be used by a distant unknown heir (older kingdom was runby this spirit) against an invasion planned by Selvetargtlin of the vassal state of the underdark city Luth Dreier. The items were scattered across southern Fearun. Held by an orc tribe on an island under Lapaliyya was a large shield (collected already). The second item the party collected was a large sword held by a heretic cult of Torm in a remote mountainous location in south Thindol. Within a dwarven tomb in Sammarach lies a suit of armor and deep in a illithiirian bastion a greatbow. The invasion starts with an epic ritual to call in a focused darkness around Emtar and will coincide with the novelist attack of Eilistreans on the Demonweb pits. The party has done some sidequests while travelling southern fearun, like stopping a spawning pool of hags near Aztul (who managed to get my character Thuran, quickest swordsman of the sword coast, to create one of the hagspawns) and locating a faulty random portal to the Barrens of Doom and Despair (where Thuran now wanders). They sacked a yuanti temple with a plantation of dangerous yuanti poisons (creating a mayor new enemy). At the moment they are in the seas north of Thindol after transversing Labrands Folly with the help of a stunningly beautiful captain of the pirateship the Emerald. |
| Azuth09-13-07, 04:10 PM | The party in my campaign consists of a Wizard (5th) and a Cleric of Mystra (5th), both from Halruaa. They headed out into the world to find lost magic and see the "less civilized" parts of Faerūn. After some adventures along the way, they ended up in Glarondar in Aglarond. Currently they're in the middle of the Twilight Tomb, where they managed to destroy Mourel. They were about to re-activate the portal and get back into the world - when they suddenly remembered the girl they were supposed to save. Now they're trying to figure out the best approach to get into and explore the Tower where they're pretty sure she is. Once they find their way back to Glarondar they'll get involved with a local Cult of the Dragon plot to overthrow the local government. Depending on what the character's figure out/does, they'll either be hired by the cell leader (most likely by proxy) to investigate an old ruin high up in the mountains or they will try to twart the Cult by investigating the ruins before them. The Cult of the Dragon believe that an ancient artifact that will increase their chances of convincing local dragons (in particular Nartheling) to become dracoliches will be found in the ruins. (which of course is true! ;) ) -Azuth |
| dragonheart09-14-07, 03:43 PM | its early 1375 in my campaign and the PCs arein deep water - having taken over Teshensdale and the Moonsea west they are caught beteen SHade in Anauroch and the Zhentarim now working out of Mulmaster. they just finished the Cormyr and Shadowdale modules and are about to finish their exploration of Undermountain while they wait to see Shar's next move. THe leader is an Epic level monk/ranger/wizard that is acting on Mystra's behalf where her chosen cannot go at the moment. |
| Spirithawkfellow09-14-07, 04:04 PM | My campaign takes place in 1380 Dale Reckoning- The Realm Runners after facing the the dragon lich of (Old Dracnarsis, formerly a fallen city of Nethril) find themselves teleported to the Spine of the World and Icewindale. There they find that a small tribe of Barbarians must make their stand against, a raised army of Frost folk and other beings, secretly formed by transplanted surface Drow. The campaign is a 7th level-12 level. As of this writing, the Paladin of the group has fallen against the might of the house's Head wizard. | Tseramed09-14-07, 09:20 PM | 8-9th level campaing running since about 2 years. 1372 After clearing up a plot by a mad mage to resurect his hellbound father, the party travelled a lot, battered and affected by the events that happened in Cormyr. While the crown did thanked them for their deeds, it made them get out of the kingdom as it turns out much of the nobility was on their backs for playing a part in Arabel's independancy from Cormyr. Now, the town was reclaimed by a force of Purple Dragon Knights but the PCs are wanted for murder and instigation of a rebellion. 1373 After saving the kingdom, with a sour taste in their mouths, they travelled and ended up escorting a caravan from Athkatla to Waterdeep. They stopped in Daggerford as the Caravan didn't need an escort for the rest of the way. Now they met new PCs ( the paladin sacrificed himself and the Barbarian returned home half blind), and are investigating the Trollbark forest as to why the Trolls are leaving their "homes" to wreck havoc in the farmlands. They confronted two trolls and saved some farmers' lives in their own home and while entering the Trollbark forest, they have found a strange, completely burnt cadaver that they identified as probably being that of a drow. Elsewhere theyfound a Tortured troll chained to a tree almost completely burned... * Dun Dun Duuuun* Sorry a bit more than 100 words... :p |
| That_GD_Drow09-15-07, 11:08 AM | Eleint, 1369. My 9/10 Drow Ranger (yep, another one)/Rogue is attempting to: 1. Reconnect with my oh-god-he-isn't-deceased-like-I-thought-he-was-all-these-years father. 2. Stop a rival family in my Good to Neutrally aligned Dark Elf city from ratting out said city with portal instructions (and exacting location directions for arrival within) sent to an Amnian Shadow Thief, a underdark merchant and an unknown, un-located lich. :help: 3. Prevent said family from getting into any more hi-jinx via drow justice. (Yes, that is what it sounds like). 4. Start up several other minor story-lines for future fun. |
| 1 ton ghost09-18-07, 02:48 AM | Mid-late Marpenoth, 1374; Silver Marches (specifically Silverymoon, Everlund, Silverwood) this will most certainly not be 100 words. i apologize in advance -token NPC Kiri "pocketfox" Gamont (rogue/assassin) helped glue PCs together under pretext of guild in Silverymoon has contract on her and she needs help; didn't want to be forced to join guild and her contacts/friends were being killed off by rival assassin, a new hot shot from Westgate w/ promises of wealth and intel to the ShadowDragons (local guild). this villain was in fact a sleeper agent from the Nightmasks (westgate) probing Silverymoon for expansion/future endeavors. his cover was prospective member to ShadowDragons affording him intimate contact -Kiri is given a loaded deal; if she can defeat Rowan (nightmask), they will basically abide non-aggression pact. Guild favors Rowan and has stacked deck in his favor under pretext of, "silence her (an easy task), and you're in." they must give her a sporting chance, despite it being terribly 1-sided Rowan systematically begins killing off her contacts while funneling intel to secret masters in Westgate. ShadowDragons are ignorant, eager to kill off Kiri given that she spurned their "invite" (forced consciption), and easilly won over by Rowan's misinformation via Nightmasks secretly -PCs begin typical legwork, working up "foodchain". ultimately led to a Shadowdragon safehouse for contraband in sewers beneath Wayward House in Silverymoon. they raid it, get some more intel as to Rowan's whereabouts and encounter "Ch'tturgha" a disguised hermit/mage (human necropolitan) who is stuck in sewers given discrepancies of Silverymoon's wards & undead status (can't get out). offers some help in exchange for "future favors". very nosferatu-esque ala Vampire. -intel points to hunting lodge near Silverymoon where a corrupt noble, "Steddman Amblecrow" hides Rowan; is sympathetic/charmed given Nightmask powers of Rowan, etc. Steddman is a guild Lt., some power, but he lost a great deal of $ when PCs raided sewer/safehouse and took goods/treasure. to recoup his loses, he hosted a staged foxhunt w/ other nobles of Silverymoon; deal w/ goblinoids in Silverwood to kidnap them during hunt. when noble families pay ransom, he and goblinoids secretly split cash. he also plans to orchestrate swap meet which in turn will raise his stock as a noble as hostages will be "so grateful" their host came to their "rescue" etc. -PCs attack, very bloody. Rowan interrogated/tortured/killed; PCs learn of his secret masters, etc. find out that hostages are being held in Silverwood by "Shex" a hobgoblin rogue w/ ties to ShadowDragons and Steddman. local woodelves involved given level of trickery on Steddman's behalf, they want revenge and grudginly help PCs as they killed quite a few elves (house security) whom were dupped by Steddman. -PCs skulk out to old mill in Silverwood where hostages are held. massive battle; many bugbears, Shex, hobgoblins, and varags (feral goblins). enemies defeated, 3 surviving nobles taken back to Silverymoon, very grateful. slain Uthgardt princess among captured nobles. her dead spirit speaks to PC cleric of Jergal (has Spirit Sense) for further intel. -current PC downtime: discretely fencing treasure given hightened attention and upgrading stuff (they are going crazy since Mag.ItemComp is new now). Kiri is free from guild aggression having delivered Rowan's head as proof and they are scrambling to cut their loses avoid attention of Spellguard/Knights in Silver. she and PCs are basically safe if they leave each other alone. they plan on offering up truth about Rowan/Nightmasks as token of good will, possible $ incentive. debateable. -surviving nobles request Jergalite cleric for funeral as their retainers were slain/fed to varags (dead weight). request PCs to smooth things over when Uthgardt delegation arrives in Silverymoon; very ****** princess was slain concerning Steddman's deception/foxhunt. they threaten trade embargos/politcal pressure on Silverymoon/Everlund for "failing to protect Uthgardt envoy". -nobles offer exclusive contract on Steddman (revenge) before it goes public and PCs must compete w/ other bounty hunters and cash reward for rescue. |
| Balafre09-18-07, 07:58 PM | 3rd level group just fled from a group of Tyr followers at BlackFeather Brige wanting them to go to Harrowdale to be judged for the murder of a Cleric of Tyr they are currently in Scardale looking for a Sorcerer of Cyric who could be the one behind the murder! the half orc barbarian of the group has infiltrated the Zhentish garrison hoping to get some infos but he doesnt know that he is the one being spied on The next day, the group (except the half orc who's infiltrating the Zhents) do some legwork in the city of Scardale looking for some adventures Meanwhile, the half orc his working on the extortion market for the Zhents and lives in an inn runned by a Zhent spy! He received a letter beneath his entry door and since he doesnt know how to read he gave it to the inn owner (Zhent spy!!!). In fact the letter was a message from an Harper agent to the group so the spy took it and told him to go away to do some other job but the barbarian wanted his letter back so you know what happens: brawl, blood, all that good $#!% He got arrested by som Sembian soldiers while the rest of his group observed the scene from afar. A detachment of Zhent soldiers who disguise as Scardale militians go get him from his Sembian jail and bring him back to get questionned by the Balafre (a Zhent Rogue who wants to get rid of them since the cleric of Mystra messed with his business in Harrowdale). Gets Dominated by a Zhent mage , goes find the rest of the group and tries to convince them to go with him near the Zhent compound where they could get inside by a secret passage to get retribution. The rest pf the group tell him to go there and while he goes they go at the Sembian garrison to try to get some reinforcements but in vain in the meeting place, the group gets amubshed by the Zhents, a member dies (the gnome illusionist NPC) but still, they managed to flee with some help from a sorcerer of the Silver Ravens (Sembian garrison) and he hid them into the garrison while they decide what to do this sorcerer seems very nice but maybe he is less benevolent than they think he is :evillaugh |
| Sidslick09-24-07, 03:56 AM | Just on the cusp of starting a new Realms campaign - have spent a couple of weeks amending the Fane trilogy to fit it into the Realms (the Snowlake Mountains, east of Amn). Should be a giggle, if they survive - should last them from 1st to 9th(ish) level, possibly followed by an excursion to Myth Drannor or an equally interesting (lethal?) location of my own devising. Starting the campaign in 1370DR, awaiting the Grand History of the Realms to see what happens after 1375DR. Initial details of the Fane trilogy are here; http://www.thekyngdoms.com/ TTFN |
| Sir_Palstin09-27-07, 08:48 PM | My campaign has a party of 3 first level characters that are battling bandits near Westgate. They just defeated the bandit king and the rest of the bandits are now surrounding them! They recovered an Ioun Stone from the bandit king's treasure cache. They will need that and more in order to escape the rest of the bandits! |
| Petrankov09-29-07, 02:39 AM | I am running the 2ed Bloodstone quartet. I have changed it around a bit though. Gareth and his band had defeated the Witch King in 1360 and destroyed his phylactracy in Castle Perilous. They did not find the portal to the abyss however, and set out to try to rebuild Damara immediately. Zhengyi of course had a split phylactracy from the Champions of Ruin supplement with a few parts hidden in Thanatos. Zhengyi returns and hires assassin mercenaries (long ime rivals of the PC's) to kill Gareths men and capture Gareth. The characters rescue Gareth while Zhengyi is in the abyss with his advisors (he was a former Red Wizard so I gave him a circle of powerful followers). However, Gareth was mentally and physically tortured so his wife is tending to him at the moment. The characters then had other business to attend to as they found out that the wife of one of the characters had been turned into a vampire so they attempted to rescue her. They broke the power of the vampire coven but his wife, now a follower of cyric left, she will return later in the game. This was an amazing chronicle as the master vampire was a childhood friend of the character, really interesting roleplaying moments. Currently the characters are on a side quest to fulfill a debt owed when they cast a Planar Ally spell. The quest is the Diplomacy adventure from a recent Dungeon mag. They will now return to Damara and actually start the modules after a game of downtime. The characters are all around 28th level and are all divine classes, one is a Bronze Dragon Priest, one is a Human Master of Many Forms/Spellfire Wielder, one is a Human Cleric with Vow of Poverty and the Saint Template and the last is a Cleric/Fist of Raziel/Alchemical Knight/Exotic Weapons Master. |
| The WarOverlord09-29-07, 04:06 AM | ...regardless of the edition you play with, what's going on in your Realms Campaign? If you're up to a challenge, how about telling us what's going on in your game, in 100 words or less. Here we go: In my Realms Campaign, my players are currently engaged in a battle in the Spine of the World, north and east of the Cold Wood, in the great hill-strewn gap between the Ice Spires and the Ice Mountains. There, one of their number has been killed and the rest remain to fight the Tarrasque! But this is no ‘ordinary’ Tarrasque, rather it is one summoned forth in a great sacrificial blood-bath by many now dead worshippers of Malar the Beastlord. Your turn! :D Not Actively participating in anything right now and My PCs do hum-drum things like managing business and doing trade deals when not Adventuring or training to stay in shap. (Don't know why I still do that in the back of my mind..lol) In fact, as the story I keep during "down time" goes, most of my PCs aren't in the Forgotten Realms for any legth of time except to trade goods with the various Cities as traviling Merchants in their floatstone Depots(1/4th mile long flying fortress, usually miles above with cloaking magic/technology) and Sky Jammers (Flying Ships..litterally that can sail like regular ships in water) that both use Realm/Plane jumping Magic/technology to move in and out of the Forgotten Realms. With the "Spell Plague" the increase in demand for Magical Scrolls and other Items with self contained magic like Wands have gone up,blah, blah <yawn> and since the Mage PCs are not Torillian they Use the "Ether" directly and are uneffected by the uncertainy of Weave nased Magic when they are breifly there. Magic Items whether derived from the Weave or Ether is stable in the Forgotten Realms but can't be recharged proper unless weave is fixed, and Floatstone is a special stone that floats when subjected to electricity or magical fields and most use Technology based static electric systems so fluctuating magical fields in Forgotten Realms does not bother them (beyond "hyper-exciting" them if it's a big raw magical flux) |
| Mr_Miscellany09-29-07, 01:25 PM | This is all very awesome. It's really great to read what everyone else is doing with the Forgotten Realms. ::::: For my game I just wanted to add that recently two of the PCs (who died fighting the Tarrasque) have had their bodies/spirits meddled with by Cyrcists that broke in to the Temple of Mystra in Waterdeep! Now imagine this: typical cantankerous dwarf PC's spirit is summoned from the Fugue Plane, where he becomes visible as an ghost-like apparition standing in/over his corpse, before three sneaky Cyricist clerics. The dwarf makes a Will save to resist the first question posed to him by the lead cleric, so he takes that round to say/do the following: "OK, my dead character turns around (he can turn around, right?) ..OK, so he turns around spreads his ghostly ass cheeks wide and says, 'Here's your dark sun. Worship this!'" Cue much ROTFLMAO at the gaming table. |
| msatran09-29-07, 04:07 PM | Right now, my "Epic War against the Sothelissan Empire..." game is currently in the midst of a reworking because of this Obox Ob nonsense. So now, not only do I have to put up with the Ogre Mage Empire, which should have been wiped from the face of the earth by Invisible Cowled Wizards raining horrid ranged death upon these creatures, but I have to put up with an Orc Nation too. Thanks Wizards. Any more cruelty I'm forced to endure? It's a miracle, given the things you do to this world, that I don't have male pattern baldness and impotence brought on by anger and frustration. Richard Baker Must Be Stopped! |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin09-29-07, 09:09 PM | Thanks Wizards. Any more cruelty I'm forced to endure? The CCC? |
| msatran09-30-07, 12:52 AM | Clearly, someone has some race issues that need to be addressed when Black Drizzt starts beating up the CCC, that's for sure. Does Salvatore realize the can of worms he's opening up? Richard Baker Must Be Stopped! |
| Tergiver09-30-07, 08:12 PM | IMC, it's the year of Rogue Dragons and the PCs are 14th/15th level. The PCs have helped the Selunite Crusade reopen the pass between Imnescar and Trademeet, and then helped the Harpers in Berdusk defend themselves against a surprise attack by the spawn of Tiamat. One of the characters died because he was a quarter dragon, raged, and charged a bluespawn godslayer. The rest of the party decided that the Dracorage was now Their Problem, and are heading to Damara as the most likely source of information. (They may or may not return to address the questions of 1) how did the bad guys sneak a 20' tall blue dragon guy into Berdusk and 2) how did they know about the artifacts the PCs had recovered earlier?) On the way they've stopped in Elversult, and next game they get to discover what happens when you roll a 1 on gather information when you're asking about the Cult of the Dragon... |
| Gift_of_Fury10-01-07, 12:34 AM | Our campaign unfolds in the year 1362 Qur group of several long time players (Three years and still going strong lol) whose characters all started out 1st level. The current (Surviving) party are known as The Company of the Fallen, this group of infamous beings are detailed below Jack Hillsfar Fighter/Thief 30/25, The Tyrant King of Hillsfar Drannon Trueslayer Fighter/Thief/Mage 25/20/25, First Lord of Hillsfar Marcus the Black Fighter/Assassin 25/25 Manshoons Chief Assassin Stormlord Victor Cross Fighter/Priest/Wiz 18/25/18, High Priest of Talos Lady Ran Norioku Ninja 25, Daughter of Shogun Tetsuto Norioku Ferris Blackmoor Wiz 30, The Black Necromancer of Dragonspear The group are "allied" with Lord Mourngrym of Shadowdale and the Knights of Mythdrannor, they quest for the location of the Lair of the ancient wyrm, Flame the Everliving, their journey has brought them to the serpent infested forests of the Vilhon Reach. The band seek to slay this mighty beast and return the hostage son of King Azoun back to Cormyr. Thus far the two groups have managed to not slay each other, for they seek a common goal. Tis not an easy task. |
| Mr_Miscellany10-17-07, 09:32 PM | @Gift of Fury: Hey, I see you are running an Epic Level Realms Campaign also. I'm curious....how do you handle the Chosen in your game? Also, do you (like me) like to use Dragons and not so well known high level/Epic NPCs as foes for your players? I'm currently using the Twisted Rune and the ancient (1225 years old) blue dragon Iryklahagra ("Sharp Fangs") with much success. |
| Charles Phipps10-17-07, 10:03 PM | Our current plot is the Death of the Dragon campaign in Cormyr. Semmenon has created a Clone of Gondegal and set him up as King of Arabel as the CN F17 is only tantegially serving the Zhentariam's interests as he negotiates with the Devil Dragon to allow them to rule over the ashes in the event of her victory. With luck, I'll use Four from Cormyr to get an army of the undead to help put down Gondegal's revolt. Yaga-Shura from Baldur's Gate: Throne of Bhaal is, meanwhile, leading an army of Giants from the Stonelands to invade Cormyr. The PCs get to play, The Giants series to stop this particular army. One of the PCs is a Bhaalspawn in our game and thus will probably slay Yaga-Shura amongst dealing with most of the plots lifted from the non-canonical games. At the end of the game, the PCs will be major heroes of Cormyr. |
| meto3010-18-07, 12:10 AM | Awesome! This thread needs to be updated regularly. With so many DMs and players here, this thread is a potential 'infinite plot ideas' pool. My campaign: PCs: Brottor Ironfist LG dwarf 2lvl cleric of Moradin Caila Norne NG human 2lvl bard Dorn Raulnor NG 2lvl gnome rogue Joy Blessedhands NG 3lvl cleric of Lathander Quarrion Nightbreeze LN 2lvl wizard / 1lvl sorcerer Sang-hoon Han LG 3lvl samurai The year is 1374 Year of Lightning Storms. The story continues an year after the defeat of the King of Shadows in NWN2, which is assumed to have happened in 1373 Greengrass day. The time also sets the campaign start 9 months after the Second Betrayor's Crusade featured in NWN2:MotB. The story just went free of pre-set plots. I (not without guilty) forced in a few plot elements to jump-start the party. The party after joining up by coincidence in a bookstore got attacked by thugs. After this the party joined together and fought with the criminal ring, but infuriated a crime lord in Skullport in the process. They've joined the City Watch for legal protection, and after winning a trial they decide to go to Waterdeep to pursue their investigation leads. The two clerics are searching for clues to visions they had. The cleric of Moradin saw a Silver Dragon of name Asaduanaivakka attack Lathander, and was commanded to prevent this from happening. Joy saw a vision of the same dragon fight side-by-side with a red dragon against a large group of humans. Sang-hoon is a would-be platinum knight in service of Asaduanaivakka. The clerics heard the name when the samurai mentioned it in a duel, and kept asking him about the dragon. Sang-hoon's contact to the paladin dragon is at his home city Waterdeep. Thus, the investigation will also lead them to additional clues about the visions. The following is the plot campaign log. === 1374 Tarsakh 19 === ---Noon--- -Caila approaches Sang-Hoon because she knows something of the Knight-Captain's blade. -Dorn is running from two thugs. -Sang-Hoon runs to Dorn's aid. Together he, Dorn and Caila defeat the thugs. -Caila exclamates the battle was great and starts asking Sang-Hoon questions. -Sang-Hoon is suspicious of why Dorn was running away. Dorn refuses to visit the City Watch. -Sang-Hoon continues to search for the blade. Caila recommends Findel's Scrivening, mentioning that for what people have to pay large sums of money in archives, Findel may sell for useful information. ---Nightfall--- -At Findel's Scrivening, the party meets Joy, Brottor, and Quarrion. The two clerics are here to access the Srivener's personal study to look for information about some particular dragons. Quarrion is here for spells. -Thugs attack Findel's Scrivening. Although Findel manages to save most of his tomes, the shop burns to the ground. Intense alchemical fire is used. -Duel between a thug leader and Sang-hoon. Sang-hoon says "... and in the name of the paladin dragon Asaduanaivakka I shall see you defeated in atonement for your crime." -City Watch interrogates the party along with Findel. -Dorn reveals to the party the outlines of his 'revenge'. Caila insists that the party help him. -They make their case to the City Watch captain. The captain agrees to protect them, and introduces the party to Duncan, an innkeeper who is friendly with the Watch. -Party stays in the Sunken Flagon Inn, owned by Duncan. === 1374 Tarsakh 20 === ---Daybreak--- -The party runs an investigation at the Merchant Quarter. They learn that the criminals responsible for hurting Dorn's foster-uncle all have alibies. -Caila decides to take the direct approach and corner one of the suspects in a blind alley. -Thugs attack. Battle ensues. Thugs are defeated. Suspect tries to run away but fail. -Party learns of who the mastermind is. They learn of the location of his hideout. ---Noon--- -Findel demands that the party somehow find a way to pay for his loss. Caila succeeds in the diplomacy check and pursuades Findel to work with them to bring the criminal mastermind to justice. -The party is attacked while having lunch. The party manages to survive. -Captain: "Attacking you guys in the open will be their biggest blunder. They don't realize the real reason behind our leaving them alone." ---Nightfall--- -The party head to the criminal hideout, which is a large house in the Merchant Quarter. The party breaks in through the house's back door and confront the mastermind. He asserts that the crime will never see trial. When Dorn shows up, the mastermind taunts him about his uncle's rapier, and tells him that he will melt it. -Caila "Looks like you're right. This will never go to trial. You're going down now." -Party attacks villain. The battle is miraculously won. -<<End of 1st session>> === 1374 Tarsakh 21 === ---Daybreak--- -The captain informs the party that the watchmen have decided to turn a blind eye and fudge the evidence regarding the murder of the villain. He also informs them that now whatever criminal circle the dead man belonged to would want all of their heads. -To fudge matters even more would be a mistake. The party knows this, and are troubled. -Captain recommends joining the Watch completely. This way the City Watch could provide more protection, and they can continue their quest of destroying the criminal ring legally, albeit using more circumspect methods. ---Noon--- -Party makes their first patrol. ---Nightfall--- -Party is charged of murder by an agent of the criminal ring. -Findel agrees to be the party's lawyer. -Brottor pushes Sang-Hoon to answer the question he's been avoiding for two days: How does he know of Asaduanaivakka. He convinces Sang-Hoon to allow her to contact the Samurai's matron dragon. === 1374 Tarsakh 22 === -Day spent preparing for trial. === 1374 Tarsakh 23 === ---Daybreak--- -Trial is held in the Temple of Tyr in the Merchant Quarter. -Findel recognizes the opposing attorney. The criminal circle is in employ of the Dalhoun Syndicate operating out of Skullport. -Findel and Caila succeeds in winning the hearts of the Jury, but the Justiciar is still unconvinced. ---Noon--- -Caila makes a great oratory piece in front of all the Jury, detailing the points of the crime, and explains why Dorn, no, why Tyr speaking through Dorn wanted him to see justice done. -The party are declared not guilty. -Findel recieves compensation of 600gp. -The party informs the captain of the newfound information concerning the Dalhoun Syndicate. -Captain petitions for permission to send the party to Waterdeep. -<<End of 2nd session>> ---Nightfall--- -A congratulations feast is held in the Sunken Flagon. -Duncan reveals his ties to the Knight-Captain. -Greycloak Sergeant who was staying at the Flagon reveals that he is stationed at Crossroad Keep. -Party hears the story of the Knight-Captain of Crossroad Keep. === 1374 Tarsakh 24 === -Day spent doing patrols and filling out paperwork. -Sang-hoon tells of Kara-Tur. Findel is delighted and immediately writes down the account. === 1374 Tarsakh 25 === ---Daybreak--- -Sang-hoon, Caila and Joy are off-duty for the day. They go to Crossroad Keep. -The three meet Sal. -The three meet Kana. -A report comes in. Khelgar was found unconcious near West Harbor. ---Noon--- -At West Harbor the three meet a cleric of Lathander who just revived Khelgar. He says that Khelgar is in a terrible shape; Khelgar keeps insisting that he go back to the Fortress of Shadows and 'rescue' the Knight-Captain. Meeting the dwarf themselves is forbidden; the mighty fighter is yet to recover fully from his wounds. -The three return to Neverwinter. === 1374 Tarsakh 26 === -Day spent doing patrols and filling out paperwork. === 1374 Tarsakh 27 === -Day spent doing patrols and filling out paperwork. === 1374 Tarsakh 28 === ---Nightfall--- -Khelgar visits the Sunken Flagon. Duncan and Khelgar embrace. -Duncan is shocked to learn that the Knight-Captain was taken by 'three mysterious beings of shadow' after the King of Shadows was defeated. He is even more shocked that Ammon Jherro actually attempted to rescue her and entered the portal from whence the kidnappers came. -Khelgar tells his account of the Knight-Captain's curved sword. He confirms the sword was a Katana. -Sang-hoon is troubled, but since he recieved help from the party all along, he agrees to allow the clerics to contact Asaduanaivakka. -<<End of Preset Plots>> === 1374 Tarsakh 29 === -Day spent doing patrols and filling out paperwork. === 1374 Tarsakh 30 === -Lord Breleina permits the party to go to Waterdeep to pursue their enemies. Not only that, she commands them to aid Waterdeep in its fight against the Dalhoun Syndicate and look for clues to the crime organization's activity in Neverwinter. -Day spent doing patrols and filling out paperwork. -<<End of 3rd session, next session to begin at Greengrass day>> EDIT: I had to change and drop a lot of plot ideas because Caila attacked the local crime lord, which was something I did not expect them to do because all the party was either level 1 or 2 at the time and the lord was a level 2 wizard / level 2 rogue protected by two lvl3 warriors (I kept advising them not to attack at the time). I was shocked because the villain would kill the entire party. But Sang-hoon, Dorn and Brottor surrounded and all landed criticals on the poor wizard/rogue, killing him in one turn, and again landed crits on one of the warriors next turn. They managed to defeat an encounter I never even expected them to charge into. Damn the dice lottery! But that was a fun battle. The players still talk about it now, refering to it as the 'Lotto Crit Dice day' |
| sillaric_culdanin10-22-07, 06:30 PM | After losing the last member of my long-time Realms group (10+ years) I've fairly recently started a new Realms campaign called Knights of the Emerald Star including my brother-in-law, father-in-law and a buddy from work. SPECIAL NOTES: In my Realms game currently the racial gods do not exist... all sentient creatures save dragons worship the Faerunian pantheon. The Mulhorandi Pantheon is actually just a local interpretation of various members of the Faerunian Pantheon. The members of this group are all very much beginner D&D players. The major background themes thus far are spurred by their patron's (a retired moon elven adventurer turned Waterdhavian noble) desire refound the kingdom of Earlann in the High Forest and Mask's personal interest in the sun elf Sol-Kathix. The campaign will use a great deal of published FR adventure material starting with the first two adventures in Mysteries of the Moosea, adapted to Waterdeep and the Sword Coast. It continues with Twilight Tomb, adapted as the prison/tomb of an ancient Vyshaan necromancer in the southwest reaches of the Hight Forest. It will then move onto Sons of Gruumsh, also adapted to fit the North, wherein Obould is the patron for the adventure and the orogs at Xul-Jarak (sp?) are usurpers that mean to take down Obould and turn the Kingdom of Dark Arrows into a maelstrom. It will then get heavily into the Mystra/Shar war running through all three super-modules and concluding with Mystra using Mask to help her steal the Shadow Weave from Shar. Unfortunately for Mystra, Mask double crosses her, knowing full well that absorbing the corrupt Shadow Weave would blind her and her all her followers for a short time as the two sources of magic, related but still violently opposed in many ways, sought balance within her divine consciousness. He tells Shar of the plot who uses Cyric to put an end to Selune's daughter. In the end Mask is the grand winner, stealing intrigue from a dazed Cyric in the aftermath of Mystra's destruction and in the grandest move of all stealing dark and night from Shar, becoming a greater god. PCs: Sol-Kathix Vyshaan [brother-in-law] NE Male Sun Elf Rogue 1/Cleric 1 of Mask/Wizard 2 (Sol is the last living descendant of the Vyshaan Clan, although as of day 1 he has no idea of his heritage having grown on the streets of Waterdeep. He is a very immarture selfish creature that has only seen the rise and fall of three decades and in reality shouldn't be living as an adult in the world yet.) Barnabus Attero [buddy from work] N Male Air Genasi Duskblade 3 (Barny and Sol have been street rats together for nearly a decade, scraping by as thieves and sometimes heavies in a city that couldn't be more unfriendly to their kind. It was Barny's idea to hit the lightly guarded merchant leaving for Baldur's Gate... but it turned out that the four guards were not schlubs working for coppers, but rather trained elven spellblades that made short work of the duo and delivered them to Watch.) Thorel Stonedelve [father-in-law] LN Male Shield Dwarf Deep Ranger 4 (Thor is a descendent of the Stonedelve Clan of Shield Dwarves that once ruled Ammarindar. The remnant of Ammarindar's dwarves (only a hundred or so) relocated to a series of mithril mines they had found in the Nether Mountains and made a good life. It was shattered when they ran afoul of a lich hiding in a nearby cavern who destroyed them with an army of walking dead. Thor and a handful escaped, scattering to the four winds. Thor found his way to faith in Kelemvor and now puts his skills as a ranger to work hunting down and destroying the undead.) The group has played through the first bits and ended up owning a minority share in both a dive bar in Dock Ward and a run-down pirate vessel turned blockade runner. Before they can get too settled in as business-running pillars of the community (well the dirty part of the community anyway) their patron has dropped the bomb on the sun elf that he is the last descendent of Clan Vyshaan and that he alone can open then permanently close the door in the High Forest that leads to the tomb/prison plane of the renegade Aryvandaarri High Mage Mourel the Duskwalker (a cretin so foul that even the Vyshaanti couldn't put up with him any longer). Begin Twilight Tomb. The group has fought and talked their way through the first (contested) tower in the tomb plane (the dwarf was brought down to single digit hit points against the owl bear but began an incredible string of grapple rolls to avoid being wrestled by creatures in the tower then brought to negative hit points by the brutally hard forsaken shell). They were accompanied by freaked orc archers to see their 'general' in the Nilshai's Redoubt tower. They met the leader but didn't really buy his story. The genasi made the proper Spot check and noticed the Large spider watching from a nearby doorway during their coversation. The group lied to the 'general' to get out then planned to double-cross him. They made the mistake of trying to buy off some of the 'general's' minions but they have dominated members scattered throughout both towers and it started a fight when they attempted to buy off the orcs and hobgoblins. The fight turned into a brutal 8 round affair with a new group of baddies entering the fight in each of the first four rounds. The Enlarged dwarf did well, using his now-Large greataxe to cut the bad guys to shreds. We had time for a bit more so they explored the rest of the level and ran into the Thorn/Grizzly Bear encounter which was nothing short of savage, ending up with the dwarf and sun elf having <5 hp and the genasi dieing. Overall we've had 8 excellent gaming sessions. My father-in-law is starting radiation therapy this week so we're stopping the FR game for a couple weeks to see how he tolerates. In the interim we are restarting our last Eberron campaign with new characters (a nasty warforged knight and an 11-year child prodigy wizard/telepath) that are beginning the game as agents of Brelan's Dark Lanterns and running through Whispers of the Vampire's Blade. |
| Mr_Miscellany11-04-07, 01:50 AM | Been awhile since anyone posted to this one. Since I last posted, my players have been attacked in their villa in Waterdeep by a host of Illithid Body Tamers. The illithids want to take and preserve the brain of the female human psionicist in the party, which they feel is a true aberration that must be studied so the illithids can better understand how lesser creatures such as humans can bread such terribly powerful psionicists as the character in question. I’ve also thrown a few hints at my players that the warrior-mind flayers that attacked them might have come from Ch’Chitl (a place known for trying to influence and control all of Waterdeep), but in fact they came from Oryndoll, City of Loretakers. This way I can use the PC’s relative lack of knowledge about mind flayers and the places they come from to keep the characters guessing and on their toes. I have to say I was very impressed with how my players –all virtually out of spells and regular healing- banded together at 2:50 am in the (game) morning to keep their servants and henchmen safe through brute force, careful placement of walls of force and canny spying via a pair of wizard familiars, even with three of their party members dead or missing and no less than eight hours after they’d battled and defeated a tarrasque in the Spine of the World. I fricking love this game. |

| bobsan11-07-07, 03:43 PM | My current campaign/arc has finally come to a close. It was revealed that the main villain, thought to be the betrothed of a player, was, in fact, an unrelated elf in disguise. He had killed the original Angrenir and took his place in order to get access to the player's family library. He was hunting for the proper magic to complete a ritual that would summon The Elf Eater to Faerun, paticularly to Evermeet, in order to exact revenge for the death of his parents. He had discovered the means to get the beast to Evermeet (Having discovered a once-thought-lost alamtine Triangle and a portal also assumed destroyed), but still needed the means to summon him. Ilthyirin, as he was truely known, was a decendant of the Vyshann (Which is why his family was killed). His family was aware of this but kept it a secret. That secret was eventually discovered and his parents were killed helping Ilthyirin (Just a boy at that time) to escape. He spent years planing his revenge and studying magic under the tutilage of a lone hermit (A Magelord by trade). In the end, Ilthyirin was defeated (Sunk to the bottom of the sea when the magics used to raise the island with the portal faded) and the players ended up on Evermeet. After a bit of confusion and the matter finally solved, the players went their seperate ways, having dealings and promises that were made during the course of their adventures that needed to be fullfilled . |
| Shiftkitty11-07-07, 04:00 PM | "Return of the Miyeritar Kings" Regardless of what Wizards (or Salvatore) does, Lloth has completely abandoned the drow in favor of new toys in my world. A new god has stepped in and taken advantage of the resultant chaos to actively help restore the drow to the surface. He's personally backed Gromph and tasked him with uniting the "drow nation", promising (and delivering) godly support. The priestesses, to Gromph's delight, are as powerless as slaves, but are determined to hold onto whatever power they can, which is currently strictly secular. (The males have been ordered by the god not to take any revenge on the priestesses, but has warned the priestesses to make themselves useful or else. Needless to say, there's a sub-plot here.) Corellon isn't with us anymore. He's trapped within his own sword, and his weapons are in the possession of the Slayer of Gods. Lloth's new toys include the surface elves. She's posed as gods before, and she seems to know Corellon all too well. The surface elves she's contacted believe they are obeying Corellon as they march on the High Moor to destroy the drow that are now occupying it heavily. The PCs problem in this arena is that the drow haven't done anything wrong. In fact, their occupation of the High Moor has driven off the monsters that lived there. Under a tentative agreement, farmers can use the western part of the moor for grazing cattle in exchange for food trade. (The drow simply are not farmers!) It's the surface elves, misled as they are, who are vehemently trying to exterminate the drow. The PCs are caught in the middle of the beginning of what looks to be another Crown War episode. And that's just one part of what's going on. |
| Suin Bahhar11-08-07, 06:12 PM | Campaignjournal of my newest FR campaign: the Red Dawn. EnjoySo the Chessenta campaign started and went really well. The 1st level party consists of a Salun, a sun elf mage, the Nameless One, a tiefling beguiler and Bennie Genasi, an air genasi lurk. They entered Cimbar in Old Cimbar, in the old docks and traveled to their own rental home in new Cimbar. Along the road I could describe the city and drop several hooks. I was amazed at how smooth things went. I guess having even half a year experience as a DM can improve your game drasticly. I must say the boards really help me fit all the end and bits together in the Realms. Here's a salution and thanks to community as a whole! Warm winds and a cooshie puppie for all! The story in Cimbar is slowly getting shaped, mainly partybuilding to feel out eachothers characters and to get an old 2nd ed AD&D player up to speed with 3.5 rules. His complaint is 3ed rules are too restrictive. You need a feat to do the things you could do all along in 2nd edition. I think he'll appreciate the rules more when he gets that aha moment of how the system works and the balancing that was made was a step in the right direction. They made some progress with the build up story but the main dish will be served at level 5 and up. Up untill now the party managed to uncover the mystery of a ghostly appartion in the Mycky Fynn inn, a pub next to their house in the adventurers district in New Cimbar. It turns out leprechauns were entertaining themselves by projecting this ghost and stealing beer and coins from the patrons. The keen hearing of Bennie Genasi allowed him to track an invisible 'chaun in the crowd and Bennies kicking motion turned the place into a small riot. Nameless, the tiefling beguiler, promptly cast an obscuring mist and picked the cashcontainer and charmed his way out of the place. Salun remained his cool and anticipated the casting sounds of the other leprechauns and cornered one on the second floor of the inn. After convincing the little female 'chaun to go find her brothers they helped Bennie Genasi and Michael Fynn, the barkeep, to subdue the remaining wand of fear using leprechauns. They surrendered and the party handed them over to Michael. They next went to do some resourcemanagement. They had to pay taxes at the always smiling nephew of the Sceptenar, tried to sell their partially burned down house to a transmuters and real-estate guild and went looking for some more illegal goods. They got a hold of a thieves guild location in the new docks area. The shadowy storehouse had a tense bodyguard and who let them in as soon as he suspected business. He led them to a leatherclad woman who did not hide her affection for Loviatar and showed them all the finest tools of the trade for torture and break and enter. Later on they decided to find and inspect the local mercenary info pole for wanted criminals and fugitives. It turns out they want to bring in the 10000 drake(gp) reward on the fugitive Ningal (:)) and the Black Knight. But first they set their sights on Relgore a bugbear who has a reward of 2000 drakes and has escaped his camp when a rooting attack of mercenaries and several Lathander clerics failed. They bought a cheap secondhand chariot of the chariotraces and left Cimbar for the last known locations of Relgore and the Black Knight. The newest session introduced the 2e AD&D player to combat of more then a few rounds long. The characters are slowly starting to feel more clear when imagined as the party had to discuss tactics and their things whent according to plan and the players got to shine using their newfound 2nd level powers (I had the planetouched players play lesser versions of the race that got one racial level to clear before they get to 2nd classlevel, and gained their full race benefits first). The party riding the racing chariot did not take long to find the area where Relgore the fugitive bugbear was active and stopped at this hamlet. The local fishing men were sobbing at their dryed lake and greeted the party. They explained they had been terrorized by a band of humanoids who had taken control of the stream that fed the lake. They sold water at exorbitant prizes and often stole cattle as "payment". The party promptly whent upstream and at the top of a hill to the leftside of the stream the elf of the party spotted a huge belly behind a tree in the vale beyond. A fat ogre was trying to hide behind a tree before an entrance in the hill, the source of the river. The players thought they could not take out the ogre without rest so they retreated to the village. After rest they came up with a plan. They let night fall, and under the stars they followed the winding river. When they neared the vale with the rivergrotto and the ogreguard the elf heared a voice say something in common over the hill. Bennie used his inner reserve to envellope his feet with air to levitate for a better view. He saw little in the darkness but could make out a figure handing out something to the ogre. Freddy (formally the Nameless) the Tiefling beguiler casted two mage armors and the party climbed the hill towards the top. Freddy proceeded to walk down the hill while Bennie sneaked down behind him. Salun took on a place in a bush to cover them. The ogre noticed the tiefling and shouted for him to drop his crossbow. Freddy bluffed he would do it and walked closer. Bennie followed but the ogre spotted him too and said he was about go get the others. Freddy walked even more close and began the hypnotize spell. His reaction was faster than the ogre and before he could scream he was entranced by the gestures of this tall redeyed and moustached devilman. This was the opportunity for Bennie to come closer and prepare some flasks of oil for ignition. After this Salun timed his on the ogre trained arrow with the strike of Bennies shortsword and Freddies crosbow bolt. This snapped the ogre out of the hypnosis and he raised his chubby arms walked to the tree next to him and proceeded to pull it out of the ground and snap it of in the middle to make a orge sized greatclub. He was about to squash the scattered party members but then the dark was pierced by a streaking magic energy missile and Bennie en Freddie tumbled in and proceeded to wound him enough for him to double over. The battle wasn't over as they heard snarls and highpitched snickering from within the grotto. The elf wizard hurried down the slope and took up a position in the dry reed on the side. The tiefling and airgenasi stayed out of sight and prepared a crossbow and some flasks of oil. Then they heard a grinding of gravel and sniffing sounds. A gnoll walked into the nightsky noticed Freddy barfed some directions and missed Freddy by a hair. Freddy responded by missing his bolt widely too, followed by a scattered oilflask from Bennie which set the dry reed on the otherside of the grotto entrance on fire. Salun did not miss his mark and but got charged by a second gnoll. The first gnoll engaged Bennie and managed to savagely slash him. Freddy responded by dazing him upon which Bennie threw another flask which hit both himself and the dazed gnoll he was aiming for. Salun dropped his bow and downed his gnoll while unsheating his sword. After this the whole party made short work of the remaining gnoll who tried to escape back into the grotto. The grotto was blocked by a makeshift dam, with only a little trinkle of water going under it. The party climbed inside and found a partially wet caveroom with yet another dam on the left and a corridor to the right next to it. Salun spotted a little red head spying on them. He went for his bow alerting the rest of the imp he had recognized. Freddy spoke to it in Infernal and the little beast seemed coorperative to bring the teifling to his "master" but let Freddy into the trap in the corridor. The wounded and enraged tiefling casted sleep on the pesky thing and but a dagger in its throat as payback. (next session more action! see you next time and thanks for reading :) ) |
| Shiftkitty11-08-07, 07:49 PM | "Mycky Fynn"! Talk about a Caveat Emptor! :D Bravo, and good story so far! |
| selunatic239711-08-07, 09:09 PM | 100 words huh? :) My campaign has been running for a LONG time...my gamers are running their starting character's children and grand children... Ever since 4ED hit the fan they have been wanting to kill Shar and set up Cyric to be murdered... Thus far they have freed Borem and set him on Cyrics path and are now finalizing the death of Shar... Next Friday at about 230PM it will start, and end with far more destruction than they really expected me to unleash...:evillaugh But the death of an elder goddess should be an epic event don't you think? Any sugestions for havoc, chaos, and destruction will be cheerfully accepted :D |
| selunatic239711-09-07, 03:27 PM | Yea Verily! I have become the killer of threads!!! :gah: |
| Suin Bahhar11-09-07, 05:51 PM | I checked its pulse. It still alive. :P |
| meto3011-09-07, 07:02 PM | I've come to revive this thread! :) After few weeks of investigation at Waterdeep, the party finally succeeds in uncovering the identity of the criminal mastermind who ordered their death. Using the gathered evidence they bring the man to court, and through a grueling three-part trial, the criminal is sentenced to death. This is a great victory for the party, and for the forces of good in Waterdeep as a whole, because this is a first in a long time a crime boss was brought down through pure legal process. Satisfied their work in Waterdeep has settled down that issue, the party continues on to Baldur's Gate. At Baldur's Gate, however, things are turining strangely. The contact they were supposed to meet is nowhere to be seen, and thus they have no means of meeting with Sang-Hoon's silver dragon matron. Aldanon, a sage of Baldur's Gate, tells them that there's enough strange business going around that the educated society is getting worried. There are rumors of a war brewing in the east. Dragon-related item prices are rocketing high, especially dragon body parts. Pirate activity is increasing in the seas, even the Bozeman Line's fleets have been attacked. Recently Candlekeep has closed its doors and prohibits anyone from entering, too. It is nearing the moment when the party is compelled to drop their mantle of the investigator and adopt the title of adventurer... :( but they have applied lots of skill points to search, spot, sense motive, etc. I need to allow them to use those to their advantage. |
| meto3011-09-07, 07:06 PM | A blocked river and criminals extorting the village with the water supply... Your campaign is very interesting. I await your next post, Suin Bahhar! |
| Suin Bahhar11-10-07, 09:11 AM | I love low level campaigns. Simple fantasy opponents but interesting stories, thats what I have been grown up with when playing AD&D. Using the environment to overcome high level challenges through narrative. The rules come to help that narrative. And the tension of getting hit and die in one hit. Much more realistic and easier for a DM to create fear. Fear is our friend. |
| DM_Shonuff11-14-07, 03:51 PM | One word: Gothmoor. (http://gothmoor.shonuffstudios.com) (it's a work in progress....but i'm working on it.) |
| Craig C.11-14-07, 04:16 PM | Daggerdale .... For about 2 years, we've been working on a collaborative storytelling angle with our DM managing the players as landed nobles in the Daggerdale area. With Lord Randal Morn as their immediate report, the players are able to both adventure and roleplay domestic expansion operations in the periphery of the Daggerdale locale. We do a fantastic job at integrating canon FRCS lore while still placing our own unique imprint on the Realms. It's 1374 DR ... and the looming changes of 4E are already priming us to make changes to accomodate the next evolution of FR D&D. *** BTW, DM Shonuff ... is Gothmoor your web site? Very nice layout. |
| DMD11-14-07, 04:25 PM | My PC's are still on downtime and have split up. One group is trying to determine how best to move an army of about 1,000 through Damara to Bloodstone without being noticed by anyone and ths tipping off Zhengyi to their plot. :) The other group is trying to find contacts to help with the fight up north. A few old NPC's reared their heads as well (always fun), and they are also creating magical items for the upcoming war. Of course splitting up has subjected them to assassination attempts. I am introducing Warforged into the game and they had their first taste of them in that game. They also finally figured out that the villains have been tracking them through the use of scrying. You would think at 27th level they would have thought to defend against this...... :D They do not scry enough to be aware of all of the character plot ideas (most of the plotting was done in a magic dead area of Tantras, dumb luck on their part on that one), just enough to know their general whereabouts and with whom they are interacting. Not playing for another 2 weeks. |
| Asberdies11-14-07, 06:06 PM | I have my players playing the Old Queen of the Spiders campaing, they are against the giants, I settled this part of the campaing in Cormyr. The city that is covered by the giant dark sphere is Arabel. My players, a cleric, a druid and a mage have founded their own feud and a castle at the east of Arrabar. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-14-07, 08:08 PM | BTW, DM Shonuff ... is Gothmoor your web site? Very nice layout. Agreed, I'm reading through it with interest.:) |
| DM_Shonuff11-15-07, 01:27 PM | Yes, that is my website. It's my homebrew town, founded by my first character, and has since grown to the point of it filling with mine and all my friend's characters. Most of the named NPCs were either retired PCs or a memorable NPC created for a campaign. The maps are still being converted, and since the city has since grown, i'm redoing the city maps. It sits on the western edge of the Halruua mountains that hugs the edge of the Mhair. I'm still working on it, but if anyone is interested in helping contribute, hit me up with a PM. |
| Mula11-16-07, 07:38 PM | I have two new campaigns begun, one tabletop and one play-by-post. The tabletop game is the Red Hand of Doom, only one session done, set in Channath Vale and the year is the Year of Lightning Storms. The pbp game is set in the Year of Wild Magic, taking place in Harrowdale (at the moment). Like the RHoD game, the pbp campaign is in its very early stages, even though it was started around a month agoplay-by-post is slow but fun. :D The players in the game are all descendants of Alustriel: three daughters and three grandchildren (two of whom are the children of one of the PCs). Its a very promising campaign. :) |
| Drahki11-19-07, 02:07 PM | Current FR campaign- Average PC level: around 40th They are currently preparing for a battle against the Infernal spawn of Asmodeus and Mystral. The party consists of several unique characters, notably a netherese archwizard, a chosen of Helm, and a chosen of Mask (oh the theivery). |
| Suin Bahhar11-26-07, 08:59 AM | Ah, the joys of free form adventuring. I had the river grotto dungeon done and all encounters worked out. At the end I free winded a new exit and even bigger dungeon on the fly. This proved a masterfull stroke as I have a new story arc I can hang up on this location. The party was standing in the corridor where they just dispatched an imp when Salun Amakiir, of a midclass clan below the Raerdrimne gold elf familiy of Evermeet, heard sounds of conversation from beyond the bend in the corridor. The party fell silent and heard the advance of a plated person. They fell back and retreated to behind the dam in the western corner of the room. Freddy took a vantage point up on the ladder and first heard then saw a hooded redscaled warrior with a dragonwingshield and a beared long sword walk into the room. It began making sniffing sounds. It commanded "Come out and play. Reveal yourselves!". From behind the red warrior a shadow whent from wall to wall but Freddy couldn't pinpoint it. A wizzing sound and a solid thud revealed a bugbear that after an axe throw darted from the corridor to the ladder and engaged the redeyed tiefling. The party braced with readied arrows pointed at the ladder. Freddy got of one shot but was too startled by the bold actions of the large and furry goblinkin he recognized as Relgore. The big goblin groped at the crossbow but Freddy dropped himself backwards of the ladder and landed with catlike grace next to Bennie at the base of the ladder. Bennie let loose an arrow that didn't penetrate the chain shirt of the bugbear. 15 feet further Salun placed his shot on the shoulder Relgore was using to climb over the ladder and he fell forward but landed with a splash next to Bennie who followed up with an aggrasive slash of his shortsword but missed the agile bugbear. Freddy retreated to Saluns position and porceeded to succesfully daze Relgore. Salun heard the casting of several divine spells from beyond the dam. Relgore stood momentarily still and recieved an arrow and a stab of a masterwork shortsword in the abdomen wich made the water turn dark with blood his blood. The voice of the red warrior stifled the sense of victory of a succesfull headhunting mission. It commanded they lower their weapons. The party did. It lowered its hood and revealed coppery red locks that draped across half of the face of this red clad warriorwoman. She claimed she was interested in their crossing of paths. She exhanged her name as Jervana the Red, wyrmkeeper of Tiamat. Relgore had been proving less capable (and rebellious) as she had expected. Her original base was in Unther but she was forced to retreat to Chessenta when a Gargantuan Sphinx was appointed as sepatarch of Dalath. She needed the party to obtain a relic from the Temple of Lathander. She also informed the party on the coming of the King Killer Star. She plans on using the timing of the dracorage to claim back a few of her superiors churches located near Dalath. The relic could be of vital use against the new sepatarch of Dalath. The party hesitantely agreed. They could see through the locks of red hair her left face was severely disfigured by burnmarks as she stood up to make leave. The party had promised the villagers to releave them of their watershortage so the tried to bring down the dams. With combined effort they managed to renew the spring by breaking the dam. Durig this the genasi effortlessly worked underwater. Bennie discovered a deep well in the corner. He said so to his party and swam into the darkness. He could orientate very good and after several minutes he emerged in a dark room with stalagmites and tites. In the far corner of the natural cavern a elevated altar stood surrounded by the natural limestone pillars. The ever curious genasi advanced towards the stone altar when green flames with eyes and mouthes in them between the pillars sprang into existance. He stepped between the flames when he could make out a strange language and the flames soared towards the cieling. This made him feel uneasy and he panicked back to the party. The tiefling saw something strange in the eyes of the genasi when Bennie explained what happened. After this the party left the grotto to collect heir proper rewards from the villagers and continued by chariot next day to the Society of the Sword HQ in Cimbars governmental quarter to drop de heads with drakes on them. Next session the grand unveiling! |
| Mr_Miscellany11-27-07, 08:50 PM | My players just discovered that The Blackstaff has died in my campaign. I'd been building up to this for several months worth of game sessions, so when the truth finally hit the PCs it was smiles and "Holy -bleep!-" and "You bastard! (with a grin attached)" and "I knew it! Remember when the Blackstaff...." I take great pride and pleasure in watching them pretty much run things at the table by themselves every time one of these moments happens. They've also discovered the existence of Rymalithin (sp?), and learned many of Laeral's 'sisters' are there recovering (....my lead in to the Shadowdale adventure.) Lots of fun! |
