Hi I just finished DM'ing a very long game and I was asked to start a new campiagn but I am out of ideas. So far they (the 2 players) wish to both play rouges in Waterdeep, I like this idea but I am not sure were to go with it.
One of the players is a vetern to the realms while the other is 100% new to it.

they emailed me what they want there backrounds like:

The more experenced player wants to be a wizard1/rouge2 for his starting lvl, he wants to be a failure out of wizarding college. He is very angry over his failure of college. So he turned to a life of crime, to steal find and sell spell books, magic items and the like.

The none expereced realms player wants to play an Expert Treasure Hunter he asked me if he could steal a book(s) that have valuble's listed in it(like a pricing book) He always aviods conflict, He also wishes to be well equiped(always has grappling hooks, compass, telescope ect.) He wants to fight with Gnomish fire arms. He also have rival treasure hunters that try to screw him over any chance they get.

I think my real problem is that I don't know were or how to really start this game. Help in this area would be very great of anyone.

Sorry for what ever grammer & spelling errors there are I have been up for 33 hours now(Damn work..)

Thankyou for any help you can give.

Maybe they get hired by a patron and are asked to steal from the patrons enemies. But this is Waterdeep, so add twists to that. They don't know that the patron exists and they are actually hired through some channels that patron took to protect and conceal him/her self.

Maybe the patron is the doppleganger that has now infultrated the Lords of Waterdeep and he's trying to cause chaos in the city. Then you can also bring Skullport into it.

Just a quick idea.

There's more lore about Waterdeep on the WOTC web pages and if you need some starting hooks, Wooly and I have wrote fifteen of them so far and they can be found in volume 1 through 3 of the Candlekeep Compendium. :) (Yes, I'm advertising our fan based collection of FR lore.)
