| Tiverine03-06-08, 12:53 PM | I have to excuse to everyone in advance, becouse i'm not an english mother language person. the shocking revelation of Mystra's true death made me became confused a lot. Four question are flashing my brain in these days concerning these news and I hope to find some rational explanation, because these problems wasn't faced in any other thread (or I haven't read about them and if it's so I'm apologizing in advance for the double thread). 1) the least important problem among the three I'm facing is this: If Mystra is death, and if in the 4th edition still exists arcane users that means the weave was only a control system imposed by Mystra on arcane fluxs. So arcane powers still exists but removing the controller were removed also the limitations, so we have the return of the possibility to cast true 10th,11th or 12th level spells, with the evident extinction of epic spells and the possibility by arcane user to create spells so powerful to threat region, nation or gods themself, with not so great costs as it was with the epic spells. 2) the second important problem is this: The sundering (-24000 DR) was an elven high spell, so now this spell was broken and consequently faerun, maztica, anchorome and the other continents are now, again, an unique super continent, as it was in ancient time (Merrouroboros). I accept this as an explanation of geografical mutation, but with a change like this is impossible that the sword coast will remain geografically untouched, the northern side now has to be linked directly with anchorome, and the other parts surely were affected by a terrible tsunami/earthquake side effect. 3) the most important problem is this and is linked directly with the first: removing the controller = removing the limits, so now time travels towards ancient netheril are possible, as they were for any other age. Who forbid a mage, to develop an 11th level spell that let him go to that age ? What paradox come forth now ? That mage can go to a temple of Mystra in 1374 DR and advert her, through one of her servants (remote senses) of the future changes, maybe accompained by an ex, regret, cleric of Shar who knows the future acts of her deity (so no spellplague, no death of mystra, and so no future FR). But That mage can go also to -339 DR advising Karsus to not cast Karsus avatar towards Mystryl, etc... 4) where is Ao ? the proclaimed preserver of the deity order ? the overgod was slayed ? but it wasn't an overgod ? why he didn't proclaim a second time of troubles ? why he didn't reassign to other entities or mortals the domains of slayed gods ? |

Spells, for example, go all the way to 30th level! From what I understand, however, 30th Level spells are more or less what we know as 9th Level spells. What they will explain about (as we know them) 10+ Level Spells, like those that were cast in Netheril, we will see. 2) the second important problem is this: The sundering (-24000 DR) was an elven high spell, so now this spell was broken and consequently faerun, maztica, anchorome and the other continents are now, again, an unique super continent, as it was in ancient time (Merrouroboros). The continents shall be remaining the way they were, in regards to their actual positions on the planet. Except for Maztica, which as been replaced, as per new lore. 3) the most important problem is this and is linked directly with the first: removing the controller = removing the limits, so now time travels towards ancient netheril are possible, as they were for any other age. Some say that a person cannot outright change the past. Others say that if you do change something major (like telling Karsus not to cast the spell), a new timeline, an alternate timeline is created. 4) where is Ao ? the proclaimed preserver of the deity order ? the overgod was slayed ? but it wasn't an overgod ? why he didn't proclaim a second time of troubles ? why he didn't reassign to other entities or mortals the domains of slayed gods ? -Rich Baker has said that no one really liked Ao, and so his presence in the 4e Realms will be diminished. |
| Faraer03-06-08, 03:57 PM | 1. Mystra is/was the Weave, a mysterious web of correspondences between natural forces which allows mages to manipulate them. Magic above 9th level is part of the Weave. In Mystra's absence, people have to relearn how to do magic or develop existing methods outside the Weave. In Realms-2008 this happens to work according to the 4E magic rules. 2. The Realms was never built according to Earth geology, and then as now we don't know enough about magical and other factors to say what's impossible. |
