Okay, my friends and I are looking to try out the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting, and I'm the only one with any previous D&D experience, but that was around two years ago, so I'm basically just beginning as well. We have some questions (well, the middle one isn't mine...), and answers would be awesome.

Do the monsters in the Monsters Guide cover the monsters in Forgotten Realms as well?

How do you use large dungeons like The Ruins of Undermountain?

Are the classes in Forgotten Realms the same as they are in D&D?

How is exp earned and divided up?

If we think of any more, we'll post them later. Thanks.

1-yes;monster manuals 1,2,3 fiend folio and monsters of Faerun(forgotten realms

2-Undermountain has not been detailed in 3.5 except the Waterdeep book.
Undermountain should be a dangerous place. What resources are you using.

3-Yes and more

4-divide equally

Awesome, thanks a lot.

My friend just pulled the Undermountain map of the website. I know enough about the Forgotten Realms to know we can't do that...

And also, is there a book solely about the classes and whatnot that differs between D&D and the Forgotten Realms Campaign?

A very good book to get if you're just beginning is the Player's Guide to Faerun. Another is Races of Faerun. Check out the novels as well, they'll give you a lot of information concerning several areas and a few give up-close maps for certain areas that you can't get in the game products. When you get more experience, add on books like the Underdark supplement. Regional sourcebooks (ie The Shining South, City of Splendors, Silver Marches, and Serpent Kingdoms) give details on regions chars may come from, great for giving a char a history. Get Lords of Darkness and Champions of Ruin for ideas on evil organizations for chars to oppose or maybe (if you like playing evil PCs) even join. If you want a bigger variety of classes see the Complete series. For different races check the Races series. The Champions of Valor gives ideas of where to place such races as raptorans, goliaths, and illumians. Just remember, the Oriental classes (Samurai, Shugenja, Ninja, and WuJen) come from Kara Tur, so you'd need to give a reason why such a char is in the main Realms (family moved there, diplomatic envoy, etc.). Realms is a BIG place, but have a lot of memorable locations and NPCs, so there is plenty of info to help you out.
