| Ivarrius07-17-03, 04:23 PM | I am interested to hear how you folk have roleplayed your favorite Faerunian Character, what the character was and how you built them. Some Character history would be nice to know too. I will post mine after a little while. I am very intirgued by true roleplayers. And you all seem to know tons about Faerun. Ivarrius |
| Azzadar07-17-03, 04:42 PM | My all time favorite character was Azzadar Eveningfall, a thief from Athkatla. He was a petty burgular who double crossed the Shadow Thieves' guild and fled the city. He met up with a caravan and ended up in Waterdeep. The events from the campaign changed him from a happy-go-lucky thief to a cold hearted murderer in Mask's service. He totally changed from several encounters with demons, a priest of Cyric and a Shadow Thieves' agent who bullied him. He became obsessed with destroying the Shadow Thieves and the church of Cyric. He even began to threaten his friends with death if they did not aid his cause. At the end of the campaign, he pretended to be one of the other PC's body guard, but he really wanted an artifact she owned. This dude was evil and I enjoyed every minute of it until the DM moved away. Azzadar Eveningfall Human Fighter2/Rogue5 NE Favorite weapon: Dagger |
| Ivarrius07-17-03, 04:45 PM | I love people who roleplay their characters!!! it only enriches the campaign, adding more dimensions and plot twists and turns. Keep em coming folks. |
| Dungeon_Master07-17-03, 06:16 PM | My favorite is the one I'm playing now: Garret, a CG halfling/elf rouge, soon to be rouge/ranger. I like to run characters when I DM. |
| jim931107-17-03, 06:49 PM | Billy Bob Beggins - a halfling who is traveling the world on a... Seriously- A ranger who lives on the Moonshaes and is forced to "baby-sit" his twin sister at the insistentence of his father. They are no longer welcome in most of the Dalelands and The Western Heartlands, they are currently safe in hiding in Waterdeep. Currently. She is a bit of a flirt who has left a wide swath of men in her wake. CN alignment=anarchy in her book. |
| Tzalice Minoladir07-17-03, 06:57 PM | My favorite FR character was in a game set around year of falling tower. Anjerla Ni Tessine, Duchess of the Elven Court at Cormanthyr who barely escaped with a party a body guard and a hand maiden. They made it to Waterdeep and her one goal was finding a way to get to Evermeet. She had absolutely no common sense and actually had a few run ins with the law for doing things like charming someone to get him to listen Guard: Lady... don't you suppose it's wrong to enchant people into doing things? Anjerla: Life is but a pull of opposing forces. subtle persuasion and brute force. I merely swayed him to my way of seeing things. Guard: And.. that wasn't wrong in Cormanthyr? Anjerla: No one ever stopped me before. She was rather prissy, an elven dualist (Enchantment/Evocation) but it was great, because half the party was at her beck and call. She ended up being kidnapped and they had to 'rescue the princess' She was going to become an Elven High Mage, but we stopped the campaign. I was studying the russian revolution at the time and talking to my DM on the phone and the whole Anastasia thing just seemed so great for a DnD charrie. :D |
| Ivarrius07-17-03, 08:08 PM | Here's some info on My favorite FR PC I have played.. it's my Current PC, Ivarrius. Ivarrius, Human Wizard12 An Ancient by most human standards, Ivarrius studied for years the Arcane Arts. Almost to a point of obsession. Through his prodigal study of the weave, he found himself under the tutilage of one of Faerun's greatest Wizards, and together they would seek out items and artifacts of great power. Those of Evil Alignment were often studied By himself to find the safest way to dispose of them and then passed on to his Master for their Destruction. Through years of devout service to the greater good of Both Faerun and Magic itself, Ivarrius caught the attention of the lady of Magic herself, Mystra. For her he began to study items, artifacts, and otehr oddities she had not the time to devote. She later charged him with a pertinent quest to the outerplanes, beginning with study of the astral plane, one which took precence over all others. Before he could finish his present task of an artifact of immense strength, he had placed this item under the trust of a long time friend, Stein Thindoor. Stein, a human Paladin18 of Tyr, Placed this item in his personal vault, protected by strong Divine magic, and for yearsit remained untouched. Until 1374, the year of wild magic, when unbeknownst to Stein, and Mystra the item had vanished. Called back to Faerun from the Astral Plane by Mystra, Ivarrius was nearly trapped, nearly killed by the working of Shar. She had attempted to kill Ivarrius on his voyage back to Faerun to be stopped only moments before she would have suceeded. But Shar's Magic was of trickery, and cast Ivarrius strengths of Epic Wizardy to the mere status of a fledgling mage. With no memory of his history, or his magic, save for what he wears, and his familiar, Deed (weasel), he attempts to find himself, and his purpose in Faerun, at the ripe old age of 83... Ivarrius.. the Ancient one, must work quickly before his age claims him, and Shar has her way. Started at 3rd Level. 83 years old, incurring all the penalties for aging. He is one fun character to play. |
| Desies07-17-03, 09:03 PM | My fave FR character: Tarbeney Nailo Half-Elven cleric of Corellan15/Divine Agent6 Str:16 Dex:10 Con:14 Int:12 Wis:30 Cha:16 He is the younger brother of my first ever FR character Sargen. Tarbeney and Sargen lived in the the High Forest when their village was attacked by a orcish horde. Their human father (a ranger like sargen) and wood elven mother (a cleric like tarbeney) joined the resistance. Tarbeney and Sargen ran away with the other children and elderly of the treetop village. After many years and the confirmed destruction of their hometown, Sargen took up the life of adventuring. Lots of stuff happened and he wound up being tortured in the abyss with the rest of his level 20 party. When the letters from Sargen stopped coming Tarbeney decided to go searching for his brother. The letters mentioned the name Kacesan Black many times. Tarbeney later found that this was a Drow Rogue/Assassin who had abandoned his brother and the rest of their party when it became apparent that they would lose the fight with the Demons and be sent to the abyss. Tarbeney was unaware of his brothers fate within the abyss. However upon his first physical meeting with Corellan it was revealed to him. Tarbeney was then sent to the abyss to retrieve his brother. He destroyed the demon torturer and saved his brother. There were many other things like the defeating of the Shadow Thieves in Athkatla and killing a red dragon, but that is all the cool role-playing stuff! |
| Ivarrius07-17-03, 09:53 PM | Great stories all! This is all good stuff. I love when you can refer back to past campaigns' PC's for character history. It almost makes it feel a bit more personal. Keep em comin. I know you all have atleast one!! |
| Iuducium07-17-03, 10:41 PM | My favorite FR character has most definitely got to be my current one (not because he's all shiny and new and cool, but because he's the first really unique character I've played. Most of my previous PCs have been a stereotype from somewhere). If you've been over to the Art Reply boards, or Fox Lee's art thread in the Art Gallery forums, you've probably seen Curien Laelithar. If not, here he is. http://hypercrescendo.net/foxlee/fls/art/miscfan/curienlaelithar_s.gif Many things can be conjectured from him. Of his real past, we know only a kinda small amount. Apparently, he was taken in by a sun elven noble family after his parents were reputedly killed. They used magic to make him appear like an elf (a permanent change self). Curien thought this was the truth all of his life. After defeating a low level Red Wizard, Curien found a white-silver magical ring, and put it on. The spell changing his appearance was destroyed in an explosion of magical energy, and he reverted to his true form-a cat anthropomorph. This provided some interesting conjecture from the group, as my Char. is an Aasimar, now with the Cat anthro template (a variation, actually). Curien decided to complete the quest we were on, but afterwards immediately went home to Silverymoon, and demanded to know the truth. He found out that he was an "orphan" the elves had taken in, and had been given the name Laelithar as an epesse. His parents told him that they thought he was descended from Sharess, as he was a cat-anthro. He mulled it over, and accepted it at the time, but is still determined to learn the truth about his past. Later, while adventuring in Cormanthor, he was amazed to learn that he had a very special gift: Curien is a Spellfire Wielder. Cut to Zhentarim chases, among other things. We finally retreated to Silverymoon, and spent some time in the Vault of the Sages researching methods of Spellfire control. My DM still uses me as the roleplaying standard for our group, after my younger sister tried to have a heart to heart talk about my fears for the future. I think I nearly cried from all of the genuine emotion I put into my speech. Fast forward. We go to Herald's Holdfast. I learn that there are actually many anthro species living in the great forests that are left in the world. Another thing to do. I learned last session that most of the above info was false. A legend lore cast by Elminster himself revealed my true past: I had been born to an Aasimar woman descended from Sharess (hence the cat-anthro ness) and a half-celestial human, whose heritage was rather surprising. My father is descended directly from the original Mystra. Scary thought, ain't it? Elminster believed that this is why my char. is a sorcerer and a Spellfire Wielder. It was quite literally bred into me. I didn't say much that session, as I was in quite real shock. I found a conclusion that stunned everyone even more, but my DM was totally prepared for this. "Who was my grandfather then?" I asked. My DM researched many FR products and novels beforehand, so he had his only reliable answer ready. My grandfather stood before me. That's right peeps. Curien Laelithar is ELMINSTER AUMAR'S GRANDSON!!! BY HOLY MYSTRA HERSELF!!!! Needless to say, my group was in awe. This also meant that, by virtue, the Seven Sisters were my aunts, as they were also technically children of Mystra. This apparently stunned El as well. Mystra never told him one of their joinings had resulted in a child (my father). We had a good heart to heart talk, and I learned much about the true nature of magic that day. Back to my history. (IMC, Aasimar live about as long as an elf, so I'm 112). I had lived in Thesk about fourteen years, when my true family were reputedly killed. I lived on the streets for a while, when a middle aged woman took me in to live as a part of her "family." Curien became a male courtesan, and was for another fourty years. One of his patrons was an Elven lady named Thanrila Laelithar. She informed her cousin, my adoptive mother, of my situation, and I was "rescued" and memory wiped, to prevent my "having a bad life due to a traumatic childhood." Most since then has been described above, so we won't go into it more. Currently, we are tracking down a group of cultists in a recently reopened dwarven mine complex. The cultists are using it as a base of ops, and are apparently trying to revive Moander. (Do I smell RTEE?) After a near death experience with a custom spell called Soul Numb, Curien stopped being a semi-prissy noble boy, and started reevaluating his life. Since then, Curien has been developing his celestial powers more, and has changed quite a bit. He still dresses rather... sexily, I guess (?), but he is almost becoming a paladin now. Evil supposedly leaves a literal bad taste in his mouth, and a palpable aura of heat is felt by nearby companions when he is agitated (though we suspect this is just Spellfire). He often flies into a murderous rage when confronting evildoers, and has succeeded in killing several opponents in melee when he was out of spells. He is always philanthropic, and is not afraid to shed tears when he is emotional. Curien recently struck up a deep, passionate, true love romance with our party's fire genasi, a priestess of Azuth, who is a Mystic Wanderer and a Harper Priest. She was recently wished into cat anthro form so she could bear Curien's children. (her own decision.) For the most part, Curien wishes only to be an instrument of Mystra, and will do absolutely anything for her. He wanders all over the Realms, dragging bored buddy Ad'non Pharn with him, and his newlywed wife. I play him as a semi-reserved person, who unwittingly says dramatic stuff at just the right moment. It's been really fun, and the way it's going, I could end up being a Chosen. Yay! |
| Ivarrius07-17-03, 10:50 PM | Thats a great Story. A really good use of Existing Mega-Characters to create awe and attraction to a character. And good work to your DM for coming up with some plot twist that even you didn't know were coming. Gotta love that Stuff. |
| Sarelle07-18-03, 08:23 AM | That picture doesn't make Curien look very male... My fave is Sarelle. Name: Sarelle Darksun (from a dead, rogue Drow house) Sex: Female Race: Drow Age: 133 (estimate) Hair: Black (an anomaly caused by non-drow heritage) Eyes: Turquoise (another anomaly, unknown cause) Skin: Silver-Black Class: Wizard/Druid/Ranger Familiar: Elé, a black cat Likely First Impressions: Sad, aloof, dreamy and paranoid Possessions: Long Sword, Mage Robes, Peculiar Drow House Insignia Alignment: NG Sarelle has been on the surface for a while. She is slow to trust and quick to jump to the wrong conclusions after all the people she knew and loved on the surface world betrayed her. She adores the bright nature of the surface world and became a druid to protect it and become one with it. She is fascinated by magic of all kinds. She worships Eilistraee and has been priveleged enough to meet the goddess' avatar, though it is unclear how Sarelle is granted druidic spells. Elé, her familiar, is utterly faithful as one would expect, and also fervently loves the Dark Maiden. Sarelle also has other animal and magical beast friends, that others rarely encounter. Her time in the Underdark is shrouded in secrecy as the Darksun House name is almost unknown. Sarelle is obviously connected to Cyric in some way, though. But I also particularly like my Sirine (yep, Sirine!) Fighter/Cleric, Koral. Very warrior-maiden-ish yet flirtatious. And my Centaur Ranger/Sorcerer, Mercury. I love playing exotic races! :D |
| TempistRane07-18-03, 05:43 PM | Well my favorit would have to be my Drow rogue/Assassin Kacesen Black He left the underdark do to the fact he hated the way things were ran down there with Loth and so we went to the serface were he met a Sorc Rastalin ( i dont know why the player pick that name) but any way and the sorc was the only one who knew that he was a Drow. Where evryone elds thought he was a Ranger a CG one at that lol. Then he met a Paladin who fell in love with him and changed to a Black guard but she was killed l8er by a Barb named Caramon( Same person who played Rastalin) and he killed the barb. And so we got to 20 lvl he found the sword of Kaz and him and the sword got a long vary good. And he tuernd of the party and they got sent to Hell Desies knows of that his character is one of them. and he got to 30 lvl has a crap load of items and he killed Rastalin when he got use less to him. and now runs a assassin guild in Luskan and he is trying to take over the Arcan Brotherhood. oh and he is higher lvl now and i found his stats Kacesen Black Rogue19/Assassin11 Str 28 its high from some items Dex 24 Con 13 Int 17 Wis 13 Cha 16 he is a bad ass, and evryone who played in the campain |
| Tzalice Minoladir07-18-03, 06:58 PM | I also had a LE drow vampire lady for an epic game. I think her ECL ended up being somewhere around 50 ish she was mnk 10/sor 10/clr 10 (lolth)/arachne 8. Really she was more about building a giant base, total global conquest, and collecting mirrors she couldn't see herself in. She was aristocratic and demanding, a perfect matron mother and (Her cha was somewhere around 50 through items, templates, and just normal boosts), she had her domination done by gaze or voice (DC to resist was impossibly high). She was fun. Very disturbing, slightly insane, but fun. She was Tzalice Minoladir (and who I was playing when I made this name incidentally). |
| Ivarrius07-18-03, 07:02 PM | This is cool stuff. Who knows.. maybe one of our character ideas might spark a new Module, or perhaps even a new character in the FRCS for DnD 4.0 (or something similar). Just a pipe dream.. but how cool would that be? |
| Desies07-19-03, 02:17 AM | just for the record the only character that could stand up against Kacesan was my Sargen...if I could see him that is! Tempist would agree! |
| TempistRane07-19-03, 02:32 AM | Yeah he might be able to but yeah if you could see him. and then there is the hole telaporting thing lol |
| Kash Darreder07-19-03, 04:48 AM | I suppose my favorite character would be Selban Durham, a noble from Tantras. He was the son of a member of Tantras highcouncil, who was also a highranking Torm priest. Born in 1332, he lost his mother when his younger brother was born, and when his father was asked by his temple to oversee the founding of a cathedral in Neverwinter in 1352, Selban joined a company of young noble adventurers and left the city. The group gained some fame in the Vast, and Impiltur, but eventually collapsed when the leader got a evil artifact and, under its sway, almost wiped out the party. This was during the Time of trouble, and as a qualified swordsman Selban, had lots of opportunities as a caravan gaurd from Cormyr to the eastern heartlands. After a few years of travel with caravans he got a commision in Waterdeeps watch. Having survived a search and rescue operation into undermountain, Selban was made an officer in the guard instead. Finally in 1365 he set out for home, but got involved in a extra-dimensional adventure with a powerful druid from Cormathor. Having saved an entire world from the claws of seven evil gods and a powerful wizard, (I know, extremely cliché, but I wasnt the DM, and it was actually incredibly fun) he finally returned home and married his childhood sweetheart. Their wedded bliss did not last long however, as Selban was soon appointed ambassador to Silverymoon. (1367 before the founding of the Silver Marches.) His Father had returned home ue to failing health, and his wife stayed to aid her father-in-law. In Silverymoon, Selban rejoined his old Druid friend and a new group of mercenaries, who was involved in protecting a woman, who was travelling to Athcatla, from Shadow Thief assasins. Several weeks and several assassination attempts later the group reached Athcatla, and discovered that their employer Daneira, was actually the leader of a splinter group within the thiefs guild. They fought her, but the half-vampire (dont ask, I cant explain it) escaped, after having killed nearly all the group, but being severely wounded by Selban. Having ended her plot, the group dispersed and Selban returned home, just in time to witness the birth of his son Bengston. He gota new position in the Tantras military, and when his father died he took his position within Tantras' ruling council. Everything was fine for 5 years, until 1372 when a number of his friends returned form Impiltur. They ahd discovered that Bengston had been kidnapped by the (now) evil leader of Selbans first group (who had escaped them, with the boy), and replaced by a shapeshifting devil. The fiend managed to slay Selbans wife, but also revealed that the kidnapping was engineered by a woman on the Swordcast and that she would meet Gareth (the kidnapper) in Ireabor. Travelling there with all haste, the group none the less arrived to late to prevent the woman (Daneira, off course) getting the boy and opening a portal to her hideout in Athcatla. Arriving there, the group discovered that she planned to use Selban and the others to kill numerous high ranking Shadow thieves, to get her former plot running again. She would use Bengston as the means to get her will. However the group discovered where Bengston was hidden and managed to slay the devil placed on guard there (a pit fiend, no less). With her hold over him lost, Selban and Daniera had their final confrontation in which the half-vampire was destroyed when Selban pushed into sunlight and (with her regenerative powers thus suppressed) beheadded her properly. The wounds from her magic weapons hiowever proved to much for Selban, and he died only minutes after his foe, when he had said farewell to his son, and entrusted him to his old Druid ally, until the day when Bengston could regain his family position in Tantrasīgoverment. Selban was when he died, a 13 level 2nd edition fighter, with a anti-magic two-handed sword. He was ot very intelligent (9) but had, after nearly 20 years of military and mercenary activitiy gained a great knowlegde about the wolrd and he was growing from the "Living maul" of his youth into a wise and charismatic leader at the time of his death. |
| GoodOlWillickers07-19-03, 12:10 PM | One time I played Minsc from Baldur's Gate. It wasn't very original, but it was hella fun. *Facing down some orc warlord who happened to knock out all the other party members* M: "Gahhh!!!! Boo, he calls me big brute! Me too, Boo!" O: "Huh?" M: "Get out your axe orcy t'ing! Soon, your face will be like Boo's cage; messy, messy, messy!" The worst that I played was a half-drow paladin. He was your quintessential "I'm not allowed to be happy" character. He just went around and punched people cos he was too devoted to Illmater to use a sword. I had him commit suicide after his first adventure, becaus he was just that dumb of a character concept. Peace -Will http://www.angelfire.com/md2/willspalace |
| GoodOlWillickers07-19-03, 12:13 PM | By the way, those of you who don't know who Minsc is... Str-18 Dex-16 Con-16 Int-9 Wis-6 Cha-8 At the time that I was playing him he was a Ranger 1/Barbarian 1 and he kicked that orc's bootay as hard as Barry White's lovin'. I'm gonna miss both of those men. Barry White more, though cause he was actually real. Peace -Will http://www.angelfire.com/md2/willspalace |
| Astanphaeus07-20-03, 01:34 AM | The very first game I played in was set in the Forgotten Realms. The character I created might be seen as a bit of a cliche' now, but at the time he wasn't. He was my first PC, and is still one of my all-time favorites. His name was Arminicus Thorn. He was the grandson of Armanus Thorn and Mahra Goodwine, a pair of adventurers (ranger and fighter respectively) who had earned a small degree of fame and fortune and, upon their retirement, had founded a modest community in a corner of the Cormanthor. Arminicus' mother, Sarah, had been their only child (and their reason for retiring in the first place). His father was a renegade drow warrior named Thanatahr. The attack came on Sarah's wedding day, while the bride's procession was travelling through the wood. The drow were near-maddened with desperation (they had only recently reached the surface). Their ambush and assault were brutal. Only Sarah and her mother survived, and the latter only because she had taken a blow to the head, had fallen unconscious, and had been subsequently left for dead (grandma took out 3 of the drow before falling, though). The leader of the drow band, in his cruelty, thought that leaving Sarah alive and "soiled" would be amusing. Sarah fell into a coma for a while. When she awakened from it, she was already many months pregnant. She was advised to get rid of the child. She refused. She had gotten it into her head that she would defy her attacker by making something good of what had happened. She had lost her father, she had lost many of her lifelong friends... there would be no more death. "You're surely your father's daughter," her mother had said. And so, on a bitterly cold evening sometime in Alturiak, and in the midst of a howling blizzard, Arminicus came into the world. The community had not been comfortable with the idea of this halfbreed living in their midst, and so Sarah, along with her mother and her husband, Dahnal (also a ranger), had moved deeper into the wood in order to put the village folk at ease. Thus, Arminicus grew up in relative seclusion. His mother, his "father", and his grandmother were the only people he really knew... and the woods were his home. However, he did run into children from the village once, who treated him very poorly, to say the least. This is how young Arminicus learned that he was different. It was his grandmother who told him the whole story of the wedding day... and that was the moment that Arminicus the Quiet started to become Arminicus the Grim. Life went on, and things remained relatively peaceful. The young boy grew into a young man and began to adopt the ranger's path. In these years, Dahnal and Sarah had a child... a girl. The addition seemed to distance Arminicus from his family -- he felt even more the outsider -- but despite this, he grew to care for his half-sister very much. Then came the day on which his beloved grandmother could carry on no longer. Mahra called Arminicus to her deathbed. She told him that the blood in him he hated so much had given him a great gift. His would be a very long life... and surely it would be better spent in some way other than skulking around a rundown cabin year in and year out. Mahra pointed out that his half-sister had grown up and gotten married. She also noted that Dahnal and Sarah were getting on in years and would probably be better off if they moved into the village. It was time, she said, for him to move on. Mahra got from him a promise... that he would go out and see the world. Reluctantly, a few seasons later, Arminicus set out to fulfill his grandmother's dying wish. His heart really wasn't in it, though, and he found himself, more often than not, skirting settlements rather than going into them. "There. I've seen it," he'd mutter to himself. "That's enough." But then, one night (he preferred to move at night), he came across a pair of travellers who were desperately trying to fight off a pack of gnolls, and not faring too well at it. The half drow entered the fray, moving like a shadow, the swords of his grandparents cutting deep into the beasts before they even knew what had hit them. Before long, the ranger's participation had turned the tide of battle. The last gnolls fled into the dark. Arminicus struggled with the urge to pursue them. The anger caused him to shake. He had discovered his fury, which would come to be another one of his hallmarks. Had there not been other folk there, he likely would've gone after the gnolls... but the travellers were hurt... so he stayed. Gulnef was a halfling cleric, and Ransom, a cavalier. Arminicus watched over them as the healer tended to himself and to his companion. After many hours of conversation, the pair asked Arminicus to join them in their journey to Shadowdale. He found he liked the both of them, so... after some convincing... he agreed. That's how Arminicus came to join the party. Shortly after that, he learned that Thanatahr was still alive and in service to the Zhentrim. It became his personal quest to hunt his biological father down, which dovetailed with the goals of the party. What I liked about Arminicus was that he was always the reluctant adventurer. He really was a "homebody" at heart. He hated traveling, especially when it took him away from the wilderness, which was the only place where he ever felt truly at peace. However, Arminicus was also stubborn as an ox (a legacy handed down from grandfather, to mother, to him), and quite driven and focused when he set his mind on something. He was also fiercely loyal to, and protective of, those he admired and cared about. These two attributes are what anchored him to the party. He was a grim fellow, a loner, but also had an artist's way of looking at the world. He began to explore his artistic talent during the course of the campaign, in the form of woodcarving. He got to be pretty good at it. One of his most well remembered quotes was, "I follow many gods. I worship none." Arminicus had a great deal of respect for Tymora, Tempus, Silvanus, and Torm and the precepts they each advocated... but his true reverence was reserved for the Green (which Silvanus apparently approved of, because of a blessing Arminicus received at one point in the campaign). He had leadership potential... but his reclusive nature kept that from developing too much. He did once manage to convince a couple of thugs to turn over a new leaf (pardon the pun), and they ended up being critical allies in the long run. Thorn's knack for hooking into the more unsavory corners of a society surprised the party (surprised him as well) and ended up being a frequently exploited edge. He became a bit of a bane for a handful of underworld organizations (which led to bounties on his head). His last notable trait was his uncompromising and unforgiving view of right and wrong, good and evil. His was a decidedly "take no prisioners" attitude. His relentless ferocity in combat got him into trouble sometimes... but it also led to some truly epic moments... ...like when he finally met his father. But that's a tale for another day. ;) I bet you're now sorry you asked, huh. |

Plus, you just described a character that did not wield a moonblade or two scimitars. Wonderful! Please....continue the tale......I request.....I'll persist.....maybe even insist. ;) |
| Sothran of Waterdeep07-20-03, 02:46 AM | ok... iīm the dm so i donīt often get to play, but this one just happened to come along and i took my chance to play her. Telindra Laellithar (Sun elf, Div, CN) Telindra was born and raised on the Evermeet. She didnīt really like the way that the rest of faerun were described by here teachers so she picked her things and left at the tender age of 94 (yup under aged lady this). After a distasterous quest, where she joined forces with a Preist of Gond, up in Icewind dale she spent almost 5 years just wandering around the Silver marches. During this time she picked up a familiar which she namned in honour of her dead preist friend. (Itīs a toad... so insult or honor? Noone knows). She finaly found her self in Waterdeep where she got a job as a Scribe for one of the larger Trading houses. At this pont she has joined forces ones more with a Thiefling rouge and a Silver elf Preist of Hanal Celanil in a quest to cleanse the street of a undead plauge. Her personality is a bit stange: she is unwittingly working for the red wizards (ouch!) and she seems to find women more likable than men. She is arrogant (people seems to think she should have another color on her skin... black :D ) but she isnīt evil. Just a bit naive and new to the world. (well duuuh! ) :D He is a Human Expert translator/Scribe who works down in the docks area in waterdeep... but he is a whole other story.... | Kantor Brightblade07-20-03, 04:10 AM | Kyrian Zelmar....Half-Elven/Nymph Ranger of Silvanus. Born to Almax the Bold somewhere near Eveningstar in Cormyr. Kyrian was a bright eyed and bushy tailed youth with a passion for life...and a curiosity matched only by his Human brethren. Until one day he discovered his father weeping. Almax, being the typical "No crying in Baseball" type fellow...straightened up. And calmly told Kyrian the story of his mother which he'd never met. She was a Nymph named Cerene(pronounced Serene). She had wondered near the house one summer and Almax was immediately entranced. She eventually gave birth to Kyrian, but disgraced that it was with a Human she ran off...leaving Almax with child and a broken heart. He did his best to be the dutiful father, but growing up different than the human children in the villiage Kyrian was cast as an outsider. Forcing him to go off alone into the woods. Day by day Kyrian saw the light in his fathers eyes dim more and more. Until the day he saw his father weep. He was old then, 50 or so, weak and fraile. Almax told his son to leave the villiage, the people in it and mostly him. He was dying, of a broken heart more than anything else. And it would not do him pleasure for his son to think of his father as a weak man. Kyrain obeyed his father's last wish...taking a locket made by Cerene many years ago and his fathers broadsword and left in search of a mother he knew nothing of. With his heritage and affinity to the wild....he strayed from urban areas....Silvanus took a shine to him...albiet unknown to Kyrian. Eventually, Kyrian met a group of sellswords at a bar....and discovered the reality numbing poison known as alchohol. Drunk and disorderly he insulted a mayors wife...calling her a cheap ***** for not accepting his generous offer to sleep with him. This lead to an assasin trailing him. He took off with his adventurous friends....and eventually found a kinship with them and their nomadic ways. One day after an extensive amount of drinking.....insulted members of his party over some treasure they had found. This lead to a called duel with the theif in the party. She made the mistake of fighting him hand to hand. Even drunk he left her an inch within her life... The last attack she made should have been a poison dagger....instead it was a punch to the face. After her recovery she left a small ornamental dagger in a table...symbolizing her failure to kill him as a guild assassin. Her life was now his by oath. They made it to the capital city. Again, Kyrian's mouth shoved him into petty matters over items obtained from some trolls they had killed. He picked a fight with the Orcish Thief in the party(different from the girl) and instead of fighting him head on...Kyrian was knocked unconscious from a blow with a Sap Upon awakening Kyrian went to a very shady pub and ordered water.....paying the silver for it...he noticed the water was dirty. He poured it onto the floor and filled it with his own water. The barkeep reared back and punched Kyrian square in the face. Two bouncers were set upon him and Kyrian knocked one out with the pommel of his sword. Behind him, the second was dropped by an unknown assailent. A whisper to Kyrians ear told him to run. Ending up in an alley way, Kyrian was surprised to find his assassin-turned-slave, Skitter, had taken out the other bouncer. She told him that if caught they would be tried and undoubetly hanged in a pubic forum. Decided his fate was not to be executed he left a note for his party and fled the city. The party met Kyrian and Skitter outside the city a few miles ahead of a garrison assigned to bring him back for trial. Kyrian decided he no longer wished to run, and turned back to the city. He turned himself in, discovered the bouncers had healed. And that there would be no charges filed. (the barkeep didn't want a slow in business due to a simple barfight...and that he was to blame for it) However, the rest of the party had ties to the royalty and asked for mercy. So, Kyrian payed a fine of 500 gold....and was to be exiled from Cormyr....Permanently. Reluctant to leave his home, he paid the fine and left. Eventually, his locket was revealed to be enchanted with the ability to mask his innate Nymph charms. When removed he had the power to charm people and animals. He died in a cavern. After taking out 4 of 6 Fire Salamanders, he was killed by a Noble Salamander.:( |
| Astanphaeus07-20-03, 05:45 AM | Originally posted by Sirius_Black Are you kidding? I just read a fascinating, intriguing story in your post. Why, thank you. :) Plus, you just described a character that did not wield a moonblade or two scimitars. Wonderful! Arminicus might've actually predated Drizzt... but if he didn't, he was created without knowledge of Salvatore's stories... or anything else, really. It was my first game and the campaign had already been going on for a bit. I sat at the table with my DM and made my character. I looked through the races and picked one I liked, then did the same with the classes (trying not to step on any pre-existing character's toes in the process). We rolled him up, and I had my half elf ranger. I knew nothing about Forgotten Realms, so the DM let me borrow the campaign setting book (1st Ed.) to read. It wasn't until I got home, read about the elves, and then read about the drow, that Arminicus became fully conceptualized. I called my DM immediately to pass the idea by him. He said, "sure." And the rest is history. ;) Arminicus never took up a scimitar, I don't think. He always used straight swords, or a bow, or daggers... sometimes a flail. It was a fairly low-magic game. When he was at 9th level (which was about when we stopped) he only had 4 magical items. But each of them had a great deal of significance for him. Please....continue the tale......I request.....I'll persist.....maybe even insist. ;) The tale is far too long, but I'll give you a summary. ;) The party made a langorous journey from Shadowdale to Waterdeep, and a lot happened in that time. Arminicus became the full fledged anti-hero of the party, and was sort of an alternative leader to the haughty elven mage. There was essentially a chaos/law split in the group. The nucleus of the chaos end was a very enjoyable partnership and friendship that had formed between Arminicus and Maxim, a half orc cleric of Lliira... talk about yin and yang. They would've made a good buddy cop movie. ;) All in all, though, despite the personality frictions, the party was very tight. It was Ransom, the cavalier, who was the glue that held the whole thing together. The group's longterm goal was to cripple the Zhentrim... a particular cell of it... back home (the Dales). As luck would have it, Thanatahr was part of that cell's upper hiearchy, a bodyguard for the head mage. The big finale took place in Zhentil Keep. The party had been smuggled in, via secret passages, to get the drop on the masterminds... right in the heart of their headquarters. But before we get to that, I have to touch upon an important scene that had happened prior to it... In his travels, Arminicus had garnered a magic longsword -- a sleek, severe-looking ebon blade found in the depths of a demon-plagued keep. It was a Nine Lives Stealer, with but a single charge left... only one more life to steal. Arminicus didn't much care for the thing, but he used it when the going got rough. He was fairly certain that the going was going to get rough against the Zhentrim... so he took his weapons, including the dark blade, to his old friend Gulnef, the halfling cleric of Tymora (who had decided to retire in Waterdeep). He asked his friend to bless his weapons, so that Tyrmora might favor him with luck. Gulnef did so. This was not a magical blessing in any way... just roleplay. A "fluff" blessing. After that scene, the party gathered to be teleported off to the battle that they had long been preparing for. After being led through the passages by a Harper plant in the zhent's ranks, the party burst into the scene. Surprised, many of those gathered fell almost immediately... but there had been others waiting in the wings. The door on the other side of the chamber swung open, and in swaggered Thanatahr, along with the other major henchmen and the big mage himself (who was Dale's target... the haughty elf of our group). But Arminicus didn't care about the other henchmen or the mage. When he saw the drow with the milk-white scar across his face, Thorn's now characteristic tunnel-vision kicked in. Nothing existed except the objective. He confronted Thanatahr, revealing that he was the drow's offsrping. Thanatahr merely rolled his eyes, smiled a twisted smile and said, "Another one?" He then sighed, and coolly asked, "I suppose you're here to kill me?" Arminicus was a tad taken aback by this unexpected and blase response... but it ultimately only made him angrier. He just growled and answered with his blades. Father and son engaged in a dance of death. There was battle going on all around them, but neither of them seemed to care, and neither side dared to step in. It was probably quite a sight. But Thanatahr was a warrior... a veteran mercenary and consumate swordsman. While Arminicus was no slouch in the martial department, he had neither the experience or the expertise his father possessed. It quickly became apparent that Thanatahr was in an entirely different league. Not only that, but the drow was using poisoned weapons. Thanatahr caught Arminicus in the side with one of those blades, and the poison rapidly spread throughout the ranger's body. It must've been obvious that he had been badly hit, because somewhere else in the chamber, Maxim roared, tossed aside a zhent, and began stomping hurriedly towards his wounded companion. Arminicus knew it was over. In another moment, he would fall... but he was resolved to fight to the last. He swung out with the sleek, ebon blade, which had been kissed by a servant of the goddess of luck... ...and I rolled a natural 20. Life stealing. Last charge initiated. Arminicus was quite pleased with the look of shock on Thanatahr's rapidly shriveling face. He probably even smiled. It was the last thing he saw before he blacked out. Fortunately for Arminicus, he toppled over right into the arms of his friend, who promptly used his divine powers to purge the poison from the ranger's system. However, even with the poison gone, Arminicus did not awaken. He remained unconscious for some time. During that time he had a dream... ...he saw himself standing in a wild, moonlit glade. Before him was a looming, spindly being with a beard that looked like tangled roots, and hair that resembled underbrush. His skin was as wood, and he was garbed in a robe of leaves. His eyes glowed with the life of the Green. The being held out a sword to Arminicus... the ebon life-stealing blade... and then Arminicus saw his own hand reach out and take the offering. When Thorn awoke days later, he was back in Waterdeep, in the party's villa. Recalling the dream vividly, he scrambled to his possessions... There was the sword... but it had changed. Now, inlaid on the hilt, was the symbol of Silvanus wrought in gold. Down the length of the blade was etched a spill of leaves that had a deep green luster when the light hit the metal just so. Arminicus had never felt so humbled as he did in that moment. After that, he was never quite as grim or quite as antisocial... he had a sort of peace to him. Although he himself didn't realize exactly why the blessing had changed him -- introspection had never been his strongest trait ;) -- I knew it was because Silvanus gave him the things he most craved... acceptance and validation. Thorn was no longer a "guest" in the wood, a reverent outsider in the Green. He was now a part of it. From that point on, he no longer thought of himself as an abberation. The adventures continued for a little while after that, but this was essentially the close of Arminicus' story line. I like to imagine that, upon completion of the final quest the party took on, he returned home to the wood, and became a protector of the region, as well as a guardian of his half-sister's family. It's likely the motely crew of NPCs that he had adopted in Waterdeep went with him... the two previously mentioned thugs, a reformed prostitute, a recovering drug addict and his fiance', and a wayward apprentice druid that had lost his way. Arminicus had basically become the patron of the lot of them. So there it is. Hope that satisfies you. Thanks for asking for it. :) |

| Qevelias07-22-03, 11:01 AM | Uhani Chatuchac of the Chatuchac Tribe ( minor wild elf tribe in the Chondelwood ) Male wild elf , LN , druid 6 / monk 10 of Eldath stats ; str-14 , dex-18 , con-14 , int-12 , wis-26 , cha-15. animal companion- spirit owl. Growing up as the son of the Tribe's Chief , was very hard on Uhani. Everyone expected great things from their future leader , especially after his spirit test of adulthood (staying in a sweattent for 24 hours , meditating and reaching for your spirit animal). Uhani's animal came in the form of a great gray stone-owl , which is an animal associated by great wisdom to the tribe. Without ever having a choice , every one expected him to become a great spiritman (druid). The chief's right hand and adviser tatooed his son with a big owl on his back ( magic tatoo - wis +4 ). Uhani went into training under his father and learned the ways of nature , never trully enjoying the paths his father was laying out before him , but conflict was something Uhani always walked away from. In prayer to the deity of nature of his father , he could never stay on that path , always going deeper to a secret mental place , a place of peace. In this mental state he would swim by a like formed trough a waterfall. After he found this place his spells always worked and is father never notest anything. One day the Tribe got into a big territorial argument with another tribe , Uhani tried to diplomat his way out of this explosive situation , but was scolded by his father. According to him , the son of a chief who would try to avoid conflict was , seen as an act of cowardness. Uhani tried to explane the wisdom of non-conflict , telling his father that bloodshed was outright stupidety. The woods are big enough for all to enjoy.... his father could not share the visions of his son and declared war. That same day Uhani left the Chatuchac Tribe with a broken hart , knowing that this was the last day he'd ever see his father and tribe again. They all died in the war and are now a forgotten Tribe. After searching the woods for many days he found a smale grove wich was guarded by a friendly gnome. The grove was exactly as the one in his mental state , which gave him his nature spells. He befriended the gnome and came to know that he supconciosly always prayed to the lady of peace , Lady Eldath. He further studied under his gnome friend , became more powerfull in the ways of the druid and eventually a member of the high druid cirkel of the chondelwood. For a time he was content with this way of live , but then the dreams came ! Sweating dreams about his spirit animal and a beatiful lady sitting on a lake being attacked by monstrous hunting beasts stopping the lady's eternal state of peace. The dreams became stronger and stronger each night until Uhani couldn't take it anymore. He started to meditate and meditate as to what these dreams could mean. He found out to late the grove was mutilated and his gnome friend was dead , ravaged by malarites. His dreams were now taking their true form. Uhani was forwarned , the lady neaded her owl to protect the way of peace and her natural environmet. Uhani started a quest travelling the land , training his body and mind in the soft martial ways under tutalige of masters of many different orders. Always being welcomed in such places as the Yellow rose , the Sunsoul , the old order and many other minor monestaries. They all saw him as one with a difficult task , striving for peace , a nobel cause. Many years later he went back to his grove with a handfull of clerics , druids and followers of his newly found monk order ; The Order of the Owl. Now Eldath grove has become a shinning place again with a small church and monestary. After the first year of existance of the newly found church the Order and the clerics build a statue in the center of the lake , an image of the lady of peace ... with an Owl on her shoulder , watching and protecting her grove. Uhani Chatuchac is a character I've never played , but have been writing for some time now about him and his order of the owl. He has truly shown me the way and forever an Eldathian I am. He has found his Calm ! |

| rmilsop08-06-03, 08:09 AM | Garret DeWinter Lawful Evil Noble by day, assassin by night. I played him fairly casually at low levels as a rogue, but his finished template was ranger 1/rogue 14/fighter 5. Garret is a charming, devilishly handsome young man. His chestnut brown hair is drawn back into a tail, and he sports a carefully trimmed goatee. His green eyes twinkle with mischeif, and a smile seems constantly to tug at the corners of his mouth. He dances well, sings passably and is a veritable scholar of poetry. However, by night he performs his most deadly of arts. He is consummately skilled with the rapier, using a dagger in his off hand to parry. Though not overly strong, he is quick as a snake, and graceful as a cat. He is often foolish or overly brazen, however, taunting his foes who face him openly, or - when killing silently - leaving a taunting message for the victim's relatives. Modelled him somewhat on Artemis Entreri, but sneakier (and more fun I think). One of his greatest advantages was his alchemy skill, my DM hated me for my over-generous use of tanglefoot bags, alchemist fire, acid and poison. God he was fun. I spent the whole campaign (and any other tiem I used him) speaking with a british aristocratic sneer, making snide remarks to my foes and taunting them mercilessly. |
| Ivarrius08-06-03, 10:29 AM | The Accent is a nice touch... I tend to, by default , use a very similar voice for my characters... mainly because I usually Play Human or Half Elf. And I suck at accents. Good work though. I like the Alchemy Idea, and anything that makes the DM squirm is fun stuff :) |
| GoodOlWillickers08-06-03, 04:10 PM | My favorite character I've ever played was and is Darkon. Darkon is only semi-FR. Darkon started out as Darkon Talisman, a 2e human cleric/thief (we were doing wacky multiclass) of Mask and Orcus. He was kinda impulsive and more bonkers than evil. He had quite a charm and a wit that brought him to blows with the god of justice, Janos, quite a few times. He even freed Orcus from an eternity of imprisonment in a statue. That one was kinda tough, since the entire party was trying to restrain/kill him. He was pretty famous for popping into the shadows riiiiiiight when things were getting bad. He'd always come out of the shadows at just the right time to shove Guidian into some guys back, though. And now that brings me to Guidian. Darkon wouldn't be Darkon if it weren't for his trusty Guidian. Guidian was a super-intelligent, slightly evil, slightly munchkin sword. The main problem with Guidian was that only Darkon could hear it when it talked, so the entire party thought Darkon was bonkers since he always had "one-sided" conversations with his arsenal. Darkon only one quintessential irritational-but-hillarious fear. Pumpkins. When Darkon was still a little cutpurse, he saw two kids sitting in a pumpkin patch. Their names were Linus and Sally and they both said they were waiting for "The Great Pumpkin." Being the bold oppurtunist that Darkon was *cough*, he decided to put his sticky fingers into Linus's pockets. *makes Pick Pockets roll... Natural 100* Darkon fell on his face. A then startled Linus plead to the Great Pumpkin for help. Darkon just laughed at Linus and Sally, thinking they were playing childish games. That's when the Great Pumpkin showed up. Let's just say that Darkon has good reason to be afraid of pumpkins. Eventually, Darkon Talisman got to be uber powerful with speed that even Sara Goldfarb would marvel at and super-ownage ability scores of... Str-20 Dex-19 Con-19 Int-19 Wis-19 Cha-18 At the point DM decided that we had all gotten too powerful I was at level C16/T20ish, so I agreed. But he surprised me, instead of making whole new characters he gives me the character sheet to Darkon Bluffers, his son with a woman who is of course illegitmate and dead. *sigh* Pops always had a habit of that... I came to the decision that Bluffers (what a lot of people called him) was a little more impulsive and a little more unpredictable than Darkon senior. He also didn't have the looks his father did. At least not usually. Darkon had a problem with keeping clean and groomed and I'm going by medieval adventurer standards. Bluffers' career is as bizarre as his father's. He worshipped Orcus more than he did Mask, but still gave Mask lip service. Some of Bluffers' claims to fame are being the gaurdian of Shadowbane, killing the party paladin (he got a lot more popular for a while) and other miscellaneous things. He had a habit of betraying the party without actually doing it. For example, one time he saw a pair of glowing red eyes looking back at him in a pitch black cavern who asked "where isssss the ranger?..." Darkon just replied "Oh, you mean Sam? He's back there." In fact the only time he only blatantly betrayed a party member was when he tried to give some witch the druid/mage (again, the weird multiclassing) in return for a wish. Most recently, Bluffers has realized that his dad is not really Darkon senior and some dead chick, but Orcus and Tiamat! Dun-dun-dun! That makes Darkon a god. This made for a very interesting, fun and cryptic game session when we were trapped in the room with the mirror of truth. There were hardly any die rolls that session. Unfortunately this is part of a method of retiring Darkon so I only have a few more sessions to play him before he leaves and takes up his job as a god. I think now he's C10/T12. *breathes* Well, there's Darkon for ya'll. Overall, the Darkons have been around and played weekly for more than a year now. Peace -Will http://www.angelfire.com/md2/willspalace |
| rmilsop08-07-03, 12:41 AM | with stats like that, you coulda guessed he was something "out of the norm" for a human. One of my more fun characters I played had no real background, but was a kender-styled lightfoot halfling. Wisdom of 5 said it all really. God he was fun. |
| Cadina08-07-03, 01:57 AM | As the title implies Cadina (obviously my favorite FR character) is a High leveled character. She is a Fighter 2 / Cleric 11 / Divine Agent 2 She ran away from a orphanage in Zenthil keep as a teenage girl and was taken in by a band of mercenaries shortly before the destruction of bane by the hands of Torm. She started her clerical worshipping at the age of 16, then an accomplished fighter. Oddly she always venetrated Lord Bane and before his rebirth gained no spells. After his return to the lands of the liveing she quickly rose in rank within the church. Always something of an anomaly she ended up saveing Cormyr from an Orc hoard and in the following month cleared the stonelands of Orc's by hireing them as mercenaries to attack the church of Cyric in Amn. She then took the grant King Azoun had placed a decade ago. S/he who clears the stonelands will recive them as a barony under the rule of Cormyr. (note, that in our campaign the new king of cormyr and the steel princess were murdered by an "unknown" assassin). Cadina then procceded to construct a keep in the Center of the stonelands. This keep then evolved into a town, called Blackstone. She is Fzouls Chembryls main rival within the church, since she seems to enjoy the favour of Bane as much as he does. Continueing the one woman war on the church of Cyric, Cadina has proven to be unrelenting but a good fighter. And has a certain flair for flamestrikes. Cadina Ikantos F2/C11/DA2 STR- 18* DEX-16* CON-22* INT-16 WIS- 24* CHA - 22 * = Enhanced with magic. |
| GoodOlWillickers08-07-03, 09:33 AM | Originally posted by rmilsop with stats like that, you coulda guessed he was something "out of the norm" for a human. Yeah, it was a high powered campaign. But he also wasn't as powerful as he looks because the DM started everyone with 18's down the board and if you were a mage, you got a 19 Intelligence. It wasn't a super-munchkin campaign, that's just the way he ran it. Peace -Will http://www.angelfire.com/md2/willspalace |
