| TheUrbanPrimate01-19-04, 03:42 AM | I've been running a game for a few sessions (up to character level 5 now) that is supposedly set in the realms, but I've used very little of the realms materials. I've been focused more on learning to run the game. I made the decision, when I started, to run the original published adventure path (updated to 3.5), and The Speaker In Dreams is up next. I was wondering, what city/town/location would you guys use for this adventure in the realms? I'm sure I could find something, but I thought I would ask the experts where they think it fits in best. ...Thanks in advance for any assisantace rendered. |
| AlexanderHeppe01-19-04, 04:36 AM | Any town of approximately the same size would do, as long as it is in an area comparable to the one used in the module. I used Proskur as Blingdenford (that´s what it was called, right?). But i can imagine Daggerford, Nesmé or the towns in the dales region as well. Eveningstar in Cormy would fit nicely as well. When the PC´s are done, get them to the Haunted Halls for more... |

| Unleash01-20-04, 09:59 PM | I've run it successfully in Tashluta, in Tashalar (East of Chult). I love it's mediterranean feal, exotic feel, spicy food, and ban on snakes. And now my PC's are gonna be off in the Black Jungles...our resident Incantatrix (my GF's character, Nora) has established herself in the Reality Wrinkle. The theme fits exactly with her alien-hating-devil-slaying-extraplanar-beings-destroying Wiz/Incantatrix. Our monk, now with the PrC drunken master because of the loss of his whole monastary, is gonna hear about a secretive order (Order of the Bow Initiate, adapted in my campaign) called the Vigiles of the Black Jungle. The way of the bow should sober him up! |
| J. Grenemyer01-21-04, 05:13 PM | Hello TheUrbanPrimate, Originally posted by TheUrbanPrimate I've been running a game for a few sessions (up to character level 5 now) that is supposedly set in the realms, but I've used very little of the realms materials. I've been focused more on learning to run the game. That's interesting. I did almost the exact same thing back when Third Edition was released. Originally posted by TheUrbanPrimate I made the decision, when I started, to run the original published adventure path (updated to 3.5), and The Speaker In Dreams is up next. Ditto there too. Originally posted by TheUrbanPrimate I was wondering, what city/town/location would you guys use for this adventure in the realms? I'm sure I could find something, but I thought I would ask the experts where they think it fits in best. I placed Brindenford along the southern edge of the Spider Haunt Woods and just east of Daggerdale, as a sort of “Independent Free City” not yet under the sway of its Zhentarim neighbors far to the east. Its proximity to the Desserts Mouth mountains made it easy for me to place The Forge of Fury nearby. My players used Brindenford as a rest and recuperation point between forays back into the dwarven dungeon. After the PC’s completed tFF, I introduced adventure hooks for Speaker in Dreams to get it started within Brindenford. Hope this helps! :D |
| ender02-03-04, 04:51 AM | I have found that the core WotC adventures can be dropped quite easily into the Western Heartlands. My group has played most of them up to the Heart of Nightfang Spire (we skipped the Sunless Citadel). Forge of Fury took place in the Thunder Peaks, Brindinford was made into the sister city of Highmoon with a little modification (its smaller, about half the population), Standing Stones took place in Cormanthor, and Nightfang Spire is going to be somewhere in the Stonelands. Since any map you get in the core sources is incomplete, we have always assumed that there will be plenty of unmarked communities, from thorps to cities, anywhere you go. This makes it easy to place a community pretty much wherever you'd like it to be. The basic plots in these adventures can also dovetail with any number of plots in the FR sources. In our game, for example, the discovery of Khundrukar led to a fractious border dispute between Deepingdale and Archendale over who gets to control it; Thraxata the red dragon (qv FRCS, "Deepingdale") is negotiating with the Cult of the Dragon to become a Disciple of Ashardalon (qv Draconomicon); the plight of the fey skirmishers becomes of interest to the elves of Semberholme and those returning to Cormanthor from the Retreat, etc. Alternatively, you can ignore the communities provided in the adventures in favor of one of the FR specific places detailed elsewhere (in any number of sources; the old grey box and the 2e FR Adventures details a number of cities quite nicely). Just drop in the NPCs you need into Suzail, Elturel, or Scardale and presto chango you are ready to go. |
