Spell Failure Charts [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-05-03, 12:00 PM Does anyone have a spell failure chart? I had a friend who had a really good one, but now I can't get ahold of one. I would love to have one of these as it adds an interesting element to the game when the wizard misfires a spell. Any help would be hot!

07-10-03, 05:50 AM If you mean armor check penalties and the like, then I say you should leave it as a fizzled spell and don't punish the player for wearing armor.

I don't mean arcane spell failure chances, I am talking about when a character miscasts a spell due to his own mistake, mispronoucing a word, making the wrong gesture, etc. In our game, arcane spell failure due to armor isn't an issue. We roll against the relavant ability score to determine if the spell works or not. This reflects the fact that even the greatest wizards and clerics can fudge a spell.
