| Jallis 37007-14-04, 05:13 PM | I'm starting a capaign with five players where two of them are wizards. One of the wizards asked me why you only get 1 extra to the spell DC from spell focus and 4 from greater spell focus in forgotten realms? and why does the wizards in forgotten realms get 2 for spell focus? I can't find the answer... Is it two or one for spell focus in forgotten realms? Help? |
| Cunning Linguist07-14-04, 05:31 PM | FRCS uses 3.0, and not 3.5 Spell focus was nerfed in 3.5 and spell focus now gives +1 rather then 3.0's +2. Greater Spellfocus now gives +2 rather then the old +4. Epic Spellfocus I have not seen revisied, and would grant +6 bonus (not stackable) but in my game, I would give it a +4 bonus, not stackable. (epic feats need to have a bit more bite then the normal feats) |
| The Simbul07-14-04, 07:39 PM | Nope, Epic Spell Focus was fixed in the 3.5 Epic SRD: EPIC SPELL FOCUS [EPIC] Prerequisites: Greater Spell Focus and Spell Focus in the school selected, ability to cast at least one 9th-level spell of the school to be chosen. Benefit: Add +1 to the Difficulty Class for all saving throws against spells from the school of magic the character selects to focus on. This stacks with the bonuses from Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus. Special: A character can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects do not stack. Each time the character takes the feat, it applies to a different school of magic. Thus Spell Focus, Greater Spell Focus, and Epic Spell Focus combined only yield a total of +3 to the spell save DC. |
| Tempus66507-15-04, 01:46 AM | That's sour. I was happy about the (Greater) Spell Focus changes, but Epic Spell Focus needs to be a bit better IMO. That's why I give it a +2 stackable bonus. |

| Jallis 37007-15-04, 05:16 PM | I couldn't find any update to spell focus in players guide to faerun. That confused me. But I'll follow your advise and use the players handbook rules. Too bad they didn't say that in the book. Could reduce the sweat. |

First Greater Spellfocus came in FRCS, but then it was reprinted in ELH, and when 3.5 came out, they moved it into PHB, and fixed it, so it was +2 instead of +4. Now, the updated version of the FRCS feat, would be the reprint in ELH. So when they updated the feat they last printed, the ELH one. |

Probably for the same reason people find gross mistakes, typos, omissions, and half a dozen other errors in poorly edited products. Amoung other things, the 3.5 accessory update did have some other 3.0 vs 3.5 errors. In addition I do recall the Epic Loremaster being given fewer Skill point sper level and a non-epic loremaster, although this was corrected in the S.R.D. I imagine they had a bit more time to work on the S.R.D., and i am certain numerous problems were fixed by it. |
