| HulksterB5112-03-07, 07:15 AM | Hi, Me and my friends are thinking about starting an epic level 25 game with me as DM. The idea for this is all about the fun, the usual save the world story evil wizard thing will go on. But the idea of the game is too have fun. Anyway, I am here because I want some ideas of what high level monsters they could fight. I am especially interested in any anti-divine and and anti-rogue type monsters. If you guys have any ideas please share them. Thanks. |
| Lord Karsus12-03-07, 11:44 AM | -Well, there's all those ancient Dragons and all that. -I find that, no matter what level you are, a bunch of Rust Monsters (or, even Advanced Rust Monsters) can be pretty tough. |
| Redrake12-03-07, 12:03 PM | If there's an evil wizard involved, you could always go for some golems. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin12-03-07, 12:54 PM | I find that, no matter what level you are, a bunch of Rust Monsters (or, even Advanced Rust Monsters) can be pretty tough. Indeed. The secret to fighting them? Take off all your clothes.:) |
| GothicDan12-03-07, 02:15 PM | Hot. |
| Alediran12-03-07, 04:21 PM | I find starting a High/Epic level campaign without hughe previous character development to be too focused on the numbers and less on the story. It's the same thing that happens with the Elder Vampire/Archmage creation rules for Vampire and Mage. Without a good story it just becomes another "I shot first", "no, I shot first" brawl. Therefore I recommend you to force your players to develop deep stories (nothing too contrived like: I AM THE MOST POWERFUL WARRIOR OF FAERŪN, blah blah blah...) |
| Redrake12-03-07, 05:25 PM | Indeed. The secret to fighting them? Take off all your clothes.:) Monks. That's the perfect solution. Or use a familiar/animal companion. |
| Lord Karsus12-03-07, 05:26 PM | Indeed. The secret to fighting them? Take off all your clothes.:) -To counter that, have everything set in an arctic environment. No one's gonna be taking off their clothes then. Or, have a "Rash Monster" mixed in the lot. |
| Redrake12-03-07, 05:39 PM | Of course they will take off their clothes. Haven't you ever heard of a spell called Resist Cold?:D |
| Lord Karsus12-03-07, 06:06 PM | Of course they will take off their clothes. Haven't you ever heard of a spell called Resist Cold?:D -With a "Rash Monster" running around? |
| Mr_Miscellany12-04-07, 02:40 AM | I've got plenty of my own materials I've culled from Dungeon Magazine, Dragon Magazine and published adventures, etc...that I've used in my own Epic FR game, if you're interested in that. Plz let me know. :) |
| HulksterB5112-04-07, 09:21 AM | I am interested in that stuff, thanks for the offer. I was thinking about rust monsters as well Hmmm a few Rust Dragons might be fun :D thanks for the ideas |
| Lord Karsus12-04-07, 10:01 AM | Hmmm a few Rust Dragons might be fun :D -Ah, that's right. I forgot about Rust Dragons. Two times the terror (Dragon + Rust Monster)! |
| Bonzai12-04-07, 01:11 PM | I've only run about 3 low epic campaigns. The premise for each one were; 1. A Cult of the Dragon member had used the Year of Rogue Dragons to stock pile up Dragon corpses. Now he has started recovering the phylacteries of all dormant Dracolitches known to the Cult. His plan was to create a flight of Dracolitches loyal to him, and under his control. Then he will have the power to make the prophecy come true, for what could stand against a rage of Dracolitches? This campaign had the party trying to foil his plan. An epic Dread Necromancer/wearer of purple, and a force of Dracolitches were the antagonists. 2. A Nar tribesman has rediscovered the history, and teachings of Ancient Narfell. He learned the ways of the demon binder, and has used his power to unite the Nar tribes under his banner. However, his rule was not unchallenged. He soon realized he needed a symbol, something that would legitimize his claim to the thrown. To this end he decided to reforge the crown of Narfell. He recovered the first half from it's prison, and then attacked the royal family of Impulter to get the other half. This incited a war between Impultur and Narfell. Impultur was also aided by Damarra and Rashamen. The Party tried to foil the Demon Binder at various points, and take part in the final battle where a gate to the Abyss is opened and they must deal with several Balors and Eltab. 3. The most recent one was were the party was able to help shape the future of Unther, and bring about Hoar becoming the Last of the God Kings of Unther. They dealt with Shurrapak, Priests of Bane and Tiamat, Tchazzar, an avatar of Tiamat, and hoards of Muhold forces. Oh, and one book you might want to check out is Champions of Ruin. It has some nice stuff in it, but of interest of you are some stats for some insane epic encounters. Dendar, the Elf Eater, Eltab, etc... |
| Mr_Miscellany12-05-07, 12:37 AM | I am interested in that stuff, thanks for the offer. No problem. Without further ado.... Forget the Rust Monster. Say hello to the Annihilator. This 20 Hit Dice bundle of joy resembles a Rust Monster, but -in addition to having better artwork- it disintegrates things to derive its sustenance and pleasure. It can be found on page 79-80 of the 3rd Edition Forgotten Realms Sourcebook Underdark. (CR 15, Medium Aberration, two attacks per round at +21, Fort DC 21, SR 31). Versus 25th level characters, I’d recommend advanced Annihilators (41-60 HD each) that roam in packs of 8-10, with each pack led by a Drow (Sorcerer 20) who’s crafted magic items to enhance the Annihilator’s attack bonuses (via True Strike) and the DC on its Disintegration power. You can even tack on riders for the Annihilators (since they’d be Huge sized) to further buff them out and make the encounter that much more dangerous. That's a good start, I think. I can probably get around to posting an advanced version at some point.... |

| Mr_Miscellany12-05-07, 01:01 AM | -Come on. What's wrong with a giant roach? Hah. That's like asking someone who wants to drive Bigfoot to instead settle for a mini-van with monster tires. ::::::::::::::: The Tarrasque That's one I'd like to post, eventually. I souped up an alrady advanced version I got out of one of the last Dragon magazines to see print. |

| 18DELTA12-05-07, 11:33 AM | -Mini Vans can't be cool? Only if Shar is driving it. Then it is the sex! And dont forget Busta Ryhmes rapping in the background! ;) :P |
| Lord Karsus12-06-07, 07:27 AM | Only if Shar is driving it. Then it is the sex! And dont forget Busta Ryhmes rapping in the background! ;) :P -Okay...I'm not going to ask... -OP, another cool challenge that I found would be the Time Dragon, found in the last issue of DRAGON, if you have it. I think the premise behind a Time Dragon is pretty cool. I might have to create a Space Dragon, to counter it... |
| HulksterB5112-06-07, 12:22 PM | what was the last issue of dragon as I havent got it (i suppose I really should) does anyone know where i can get hold of it in the UK? |
