Cheers.

Don't know were to find the exact stats but my guess is it's a +4 to +5 Vorpal Longsword with a high ego which means high stats. (Int Wis Cha)!

The stats are in the old Menzo. box set. I believe it was a +3 sword of sharpness. Sharpness was a lesser form of Vorpal. Vorpal triggered on a 18, 19, or 20 roll, Sharpness triggered only on 20.

In 3.0 you have more flexibility and can be a bit more accurate.

A weaker version would be a +3 or +4 Keen longsword. A more powerful version would be +2 keen vorpal longsword.

Hehe...I loved sharpness weapons. Still use them in our 3.5 game...they crit only on a 20 but they remove a body part when you do. Not the head though...

Anyways, I'd place Cutter as a +4 keen longsword. Keen has sort of replaced sharpness.

Yeah, but keen just doesn't do justice to the rock-splitting and disemboweling/amputating old Kazid'hea has done in the past few books. ;)

I personally feel that it is a +2 or +3 Vorpal (or Sharpness in 2E) sword with a high EGO--not so much Intelligence or Wisdom, maybe some Charisma. It doesn't really *fit* per se with the way Intelligent items are generated in 3E, however, as it's tough to give it the type of EGO it merits without having a bunch of other powers.

My friends and I never maintained the "Vorpal" property as a beheader, by the way. Vorpal for us was always Sharpness, but with the better crit chance, and we had a table you rolled on, unless you had announced a called shot. Worked just fine then, and still does now. :)

Good point...the rock cutting and all that is really a sharpness weapon if I'd ever seen it.

My group works sharpness and vorpal differently. We made vorpal, as per 3.5 rules, only on a 20 and you do not have to make a called shot. On sharpness, it crits on the weapon's normal crit range and lopes off a body part (sans the head) at random, determined by a d10 roll and a chart we came up with. It works well enough...it can also cut through stone and harm constructs with no problem.

Right. That's what we had initially as well. :)

Eventually, however, our various pre-3E tinkering phases led to us to discover that none of us really wanted a "beheader" sword, but rather prefered a "sharp" sword that could possibly lop off any limb, or even the head, on a random roll. We used a d10 as well--hands, arms, feet, legs, head, and... well... you get the point.

It saved us tons of headaches, because now we didn't have to worry about the physics of beheading a gargantuan-size Dragon, or questioning the idea of a Giant "yet again leaning down all 20 feet" to get his or her head lopped off. In those cases, the table was mitigated by limbs affected by your weapon reach.

But hey, that just what worked for us. :)
There are rainy days, however, when I fondly look back at the idea of a weapon whose sole purpose is to be, what I considered, the Clint Eastwood of D&D... "I know what you're thinking. It's a 20-sided die, and there's only a 5% chance it'll land on the one spot you don't want it to. I rolled one earlier on your friend, so there's no way it'll happen again today... or will it? So... do ya feel lucky... PUNK???" :D ;)

I would make it a +3 keen adamantine longsword... the adamantine will explain the rock splitting and such, as in 3.5 admantine weapons ignore hardness values less then the hardness of admantine, and as has been stated Keen is pretty much the replacement for sharpness (although not as cool)... then make it intellegent, maybe average int and wis and good charisma... unlike what some other have said I would not make its ego that high... considering I am sure that Catti-brie doesn't have that great of a will save, yet she constantly seems to be in control.
