| Minstrel Poet08-31-03, 11:17 PM | Are there any widespread superstitions and/or folklore in the realms? Example: Cats being sacred animals in Mullhorand as they were in Egypt. or Horseshoes for luck. or Native American Dream Catchers. Again, I do not know if any of these actually have any place in the realms. |
| Dungeon_Master08-31-03, 11:25 PM | i've often wondered this too. I like the idea of dream catchers esspeccially. I can see wild elves and maybe some halflings using them. |
| Paladin_of_the_Phoenix08-31-03, 11:49 PM | My DM likes putting in Albino creatures for some reason. Like the white stagg supposedly granting a long life to the one who kills it. For some reason he feels it nessesary to put many of these in our game. Other examples would be his favorite "Three legged Chinese Money frog". |
| Minstrel Poet08-31-03, 11:49 PM | Legolas from LoTR: Two Towers said a really good one: Red sun at dawn . . . Dang, I forgot what the rest of it said. Something about death or dying? Help. |

| The 'Liss09-01-03, 02:39 AM | I don't know if this is what you mean... common belief, or so I heard from a guy who was in my group who worked for TSR about FR stuff.. People most often believe that if they do not worship a god, in the afterlife they'll become a part of Kelemvor's wall, of course it was someone elses wall until Kelemvor took over death. That their soul will be in a constant state of nothingness, a hellish existance without actually being in hell. That no god will "collect" them and they do not ever get their reward or punishment. I hope that's what you mean, but that is what makes Faerun a very religious place... As is Toril as a whole. |
| Alac Luin09-01-03, 02:26 PM | There are several, like one place, it is unlucky to have 5 windows on a building, another that has people burying coins to insure a good harvest. Another good luck to have a guest house for anyone to use. There are countless actually and I cant remember where these all are. Most were written in the Volo Guides, I actually like that kind of Fluff. |

That was really good. Can you or someone tell me where this info came from? |

| Thrudjelmer09-01-03, 03:01 PM | I'm sure cats are still viewed as sacred in Mulhorand, FR's equivalent to ancient Egypt... but cats are also considered sacred in Cormyr; They may not be caged or harmed. |
| Cherrn09-01-03, 03:18 PM | "If a shark bites a boat and leaves any teeth in the wood, the boat has as many days as there are teeth before falling prey to disaster" "If you cut your hair or nails while at sea, you will drown before returning to shore" "No ships set sail on Shieldmeet. Those that do are cursed to drift for years, destined not to reach port until the next Shieldmeet, or they are lost forever" "Red-haired people bring bad luck onto a ship, thus barring their use as dockhands" "Pouring wine on a ship's foredeck, the mainmast, and bow, ensures a prosperous and safe voyage" "Keep 2 dogs on board a ship, and scrags and sea ogres'll never bother you" "If a tressym alights on your mainmast, prepare for 3 days without wind" "Dolphins and porpoises swimming alongside a ship are signs of good luck, and it is bad luck to kill one, even for food" "If you count your catch, you'll not catch any more fish that day" "Never utter the word "drown" while at sea. It attracts Umberlee's attention without fail" "If you fall overboard, it is useless to fight Umberlee by learning how to swim" "The full moon's light purifies the sea and prevents any evil from harming a ship" "Temple bells heard while at sea signal the impending death of someone on board" "Tattooing open eyes on your eyelids warns you of danger while you sleep" All from "Sea of Fallen Stars" :) |
| Minstrel Poet09-01-03, 03:59 PM | Thank you Cherrn for that stuff from the "Sea of Fallen Stars" Good stuff. Heres one from the real world that is perfect for any sailor on the Sword Coast or the Sea of Fallen Stars: "Red sky at morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight":u: :u: :u: |
| Tzalice Minoladir09-01-03, 04:24 PM | I love all the seaish ones :) |
