Survivor: Waterdeep [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-07-08, 09:24 PM You are a 0-level Expert class character, who knows Bookbinding, Calligraphy, Dyemaking, and Illumination, and can serve as a Scribe. You have an innate talent to cast detect magic, detect secret doors, and read magic once a day as a first level caster and can create magical scrolls. You have 41 gp, 5 sp, and 10 cp to your name.

Your goal is to become a Level 1 Wizard. You have the Watchful Order of Magists & Protectors, the Eltorchul Academy, and Blackstaff Tower as the most likely candidates to provide instruction. The ultimate challenge: To become a member of all three and be Favored in Guild for the Eltorchul Academy and Blackstaff Tower. How would you go about it to meet these goals and how long would it take? I certainly have a hard time trying to come up with a solution.

03-12-08, 06:12 PM You get an apprenticeship to an established wizard.
Do his chores and monkey-work (including copying manuscript; mixing potions; buying ingredients) and learn by imitating him and reading his own collection of books and copying them. If you have a very keen intelligence or strong natural talent, he might be more likely to take you.
Hopefully he will take a liking to you and devote some time to teach you and even let you copy some spells from his spell book.

Some of them may even accept to take you as a student if you pay them a little money.

Also, there are guilds of magic running in Faerun, I am sure these have programs in place to assure the formation of the next generation of mages.
There also exist a few magic academies; but I am somewhat fuzzy as to how their recrutement works. Maybe a combination of the three (natural predisposition; working and ability to pay fees) depending of the students/academies.
