| MarkusTay6303-01-07, 10:55 PM | Has anyone else seen THIS BLURB? (http://ww2.wizards.com/Books/Wizards/Products/default.aspx?doc=959247400) It's coming out next month! I am SO getting this, I've been dying for a good book centered around Thay. Any comments/hopes/dreams? :D |
| Gallaweed03-01-07, 11:11 PM | In the Crimson Gold he seems like a nice old grandfather (a little more smelly than most might be naturally but still, he can fix that with a simple cantrip). I think old Szassy babes is sick of his lot and wants the end on some level. |
| ZolDarklock03-01-07, 11:43 PM | Considering his not too distant deal with Larlock for a certain item, I hardly think he's ready to throw in the towel just yet, me thinks he's just backing up a bit to get a better running start |
| Dark Wizard03-01-07, 11:49 PM | Not so much throw down as in quit but throw down as making the call to show hand in a card game since he feels his hand is strong. |
| Giraffameed03-01-07, 11:51 PM | Considering his not too distant deal with Larlock for a certain item, I hardly think he's ready to throw in the towel just yet, me thinks he's just backing up a bit to get a better running start Tell me more, tell me more! |
| ikki03-02-07, 09:02 AM | Tell me more, tell me more! a throne for enslavement.. and captured a certain demonlord ;) psst, didnt he get a rather powerful crystal ball in the same deal for that vest he gave L? |
| Kid SixXx03-02-07, 10:00 AM | psst, didnt he get a rather powerful crystal ball in the same deal for that vest he gave L? The Death Moon Orb? Yup, he did. |
| Stigger03-02-07, 10:40 AM | Looks like he's finally making his big aggressive move... pity really, was kinda enjoying him as Szass the magical merchant. Guess he's not learned that buying people is easier than conquering them afterall, if a bit slower... |
| Lord Karsus03-02-07, 12:14 PM | -Gallaweed...Giraffameed...Looks like something went 'pop' inside of Gallameed's head. |
| Red_Wizard03-02-07, 01:11 PM | What am I hoping from this novel? No more Rasheman:P. What do I think this novel is going to deliver? A great story, in which Szass Tam finally takes complete control of Thay. I think this outcome is fairly obvious, and a long time in coming. Now whether or no he succeeds in his domination of Thay, or it get's written that he is defeated in the final moments of his brilliantly laid plans is yet to be seen. Should this pan out the way i'm expecting though, I say look out Faerun, 'cause a unified Thay is not something you want to deal with...EVER...;) p.s.: I'd settle for the annihilation of a certain bothersome peninsula, and it's upstart over medicated queen ;):P |
| createvmind03-02-07, 03:08 PM | You'd be settling for rather city sized smoking craters because she will definitely pull out all the stops when she goes out and I can only think of ONE thing that would send El down the road of some former chosen and that would be the Simbul being killed. |
| MarkusTay6303-02-07, 03:26 PM | I don't think he's going to go after his neighbors quite yet... Looks like he's finally making his big aggressive move... pity really, was kinda enjoying him as Szass the magical merchant. Guess he's not learned that buying people is easier than conquering them afterall, if a bit slower...It doesn't say he's going to war, it says he's going to try to unify Thay! That probably WILL lead to some figting, but I'm betting old Szass is a lot cleverer then that, especially considering some of his recent acquisitions. ;) Not so much throw down as in quit but throw down as making the call to show hand in a card game since he feels his hand is strong.Thats how I meant it, alrighty. :D |
| Ramar Aulinvox03-02-07, 05:21 PM | Zzass doesn't have the death moon orb anymore. According to the the writeup for Eltab in Champions of Ruin the events of the adventures in the old Spellbound box set actually took place at some point. I wonder how he's gonna handle Khelban's old apprentice, Azner Thrall, Zulkir of Evocation! Ever since his camio in Ed's Shadow of the Avatar trilogy, I've been waiting to see Thrall throw down. |
| Stigger03-02-07, 07:17 PM | C'mon... given Szass' record, if he does manage to unify Thay under his leadership, do you honestly think conquest is far off on his agenda? |
| MarkusTay6303-02-07, 07:20 PM | Of course it is... he's a kind and caring individual who just wants whats best for Thay. :schemes: |
| Stigger03-02-07, 07:22 PM | Sure... right... I've got a bridge over the Dessarin for sale if you're interested Markus... |
| MarkusTay6303-02-07, 07:29 PM | I think of Thay with Szass Tam leading them as the epitome of Lawful Evil. He's cold, and calculating, and knows he has centuries in which to see his plans reach fruition. :detect: Unlike the Zhents, who are the definition of CE. As soon as they get the slightest bit of power, they squander it on useless endeavors that usually lose them more then they gain. They will never be a planet-wide threat, because their own hunger for power is self-defeating. Thay, on the other hand....... |
| Stigger03-02-07, 07:34 PM | Last I checked they stuck Szass with a CE alignment though... not that he ever really acts that way, but still... |
| Red_Wizard03-02-07, 07:50 PM | Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me. I think they did it, solely due to the innate rivalry amongst all Red Wizards, that often puts their own immediate interests, above those of the whole, or even the long run. Which in a way is CE. Personally Though I think they should all be LE, with the exception of the Zulkirs, and really high upper crust of RW's, which should be NE. |
| Lord Karsus03-02-07, 08:31 PM | -Tam is most definitley a LE character. -And, the cover art looks pretty interesting... |
| Red_Wizard03-02-07, 08:37 PM | -Tam is most definitley a LE character. It really depends on how you view Lawful Evil. By 3e rules, he would be closer to NE, given that LE is exaplined as only really being lawful, as you expect laws to protect you from people like yourself. There comes a point when you are powerful enough to be above the law, or mould the law as you see fit. Which is What Szass does, more than hide behind it. For me though, I play my Red Wizard LE, as he believes Law is needed even for the unjust, and mandatory for a society to work properly under any conditions. |
| Stigger03-02-07, 08:38 PM | Think I'd tend more towards NE, given some of his wilder disregards for the other Zulkirs, but LE could work since he makes the majority of the rules with the power at his disposal... depends on how much authority you assign the other Zulkir's I guess. |
| GothicDan03-02-07, 11:55 PM | I always thought Szass was pegged as NE in 2E. Hm. |
| boards03-03-07, 07:44 AM | What was with calling Szass Tam a warlock? Or dont warlocks exist in the realms officially and this is just another term for a male wizard:confused: |
| Stigger03-03-07, 09:12 AM | More than likely simply another term for evil wizard rather than a reference to a particular class. |
| Red_Wizard03-03-07, 10:28 AM | What was with calling Szass Tam a warlock? Or dont warlocks exist in the realms officially and this is just another term for a male wizard:confused: Ed Greenwood said that they don't exist in his Realms, so it is simply a term used for a wizard in this case. Unfortunatly, despite the term being used for wizards in other fantasy novels, this is bound to spark confusion, as when used in context with a DnD product, sporting a base class by that same name, it can/will lead people to the wrong conclusion. |
| MarkusTay6303-03-07, 03:50 PM | In fact, it has been stated in canon that Warlock's Crypt is actually a corruption of 'Larloch', the guy who lives there. |
| boards03-03-07, 07:36 PM | Thanks guys, figured that must be the case. |
| miscellany03-03-07, 09:11 PM | Any comments/hopes/dreams? :D I am glad you brought this up otherwise I would have been in the dark on this book. It looks fricking sweet! I hope that we get a big insider's look on not only Szass Tam's abode but an in-depth update on the goings-on on Thay. Oh and Miscellany says thank you Mr. Markus^10!!!!!!!! :D |
