| UberJoker03-01-04, 11:53 PM | Alright all, this is my first ever post on the boards...here goes I recently read the thread on Technology of Fearun? (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=180064) and I have a request of all of you creative people. I will be starting a campaign soon for my PCs that will try to impliment technology but the only way I could think of to balance technology (i got these ideas from the other post) would be to have spells specially made to counter-act technology (like the nuke protecting shield that was mentioned) and vise versa such as technology that could pierce magical shielding. The hieght of the technology that will be reached will not be high. No AK-47s or such things, the highest being a 6 shooter (kind of like a repeating crossbow or something). I just like adding to the diversity of my ongoing campaign. I was going to impliment into the campaign something I got from another thread (one on Netheril Cities (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=187847)) that gave the idea of cities that had gone to other continents and fell there or survived and had a thriving magical country. So I needed some way for my pcs to counter-act all this magic because they have no mages unless you count the one psychic warrior. I could bring in a spellcaster NPC to help them if need be but I would prefer to introduce technology to see how they would deal with it. One idea I had if technology got to stong would be for Gond to just stop making it all work, which I do believe was already mentioned on the other thread. I give them free reign on where they can go and do, like they decided to take their boat to the other continents. Which is why this whole idea had to come about. One other thing I was wondering - On the same technology thread someone mentioned mystra's ban on 10th level spells but also another post said that the next faerun player guide would have Netheril mythallars and 10th level spells. When the ban happened and what is about to change to allow them again and any other thoughts on that would be very helpful (because they will be fighting those Netherese on the other continent) Any comments or ideas would be gladly welcomed and appreciated. P.S. I am willing to try anything in my campaign so feel free to say any ideas even above my prementioned 6 shooter limit. |

As I recall, the "City Beyond the Gate" module in Dragon Magazine 100 had some conversion rules too, though that was like 1E. Still, it would be something that could be built on... That particular adventure had the PCs having to go thru a gate to another world to reclaim an artifact, St. Cuthbert's Mace. It somehow wound up in a museum in modern-day London. |
| CaineTheInsaine03-02-04, 11:53 AM | Hehehe, I recently introduced a new breed of goblin to my FR campaign... ripped them right out of Warcraft: The RPG. With them I brought the technology rules seen there and in the videogames the book is based on. It allos for things like longrifles, flintlocks, and flying machines with nose mounted guns. Yet all with a nice fantasy feel to it. Nothing as "clean" as a siz-shooter. This tribe of goiblins where Gond worshippers who lived in the Underdark, when they relized they had not nether the magical might or strength in arms they would need to survive let alone thrive in the Night Below, they begun to pray, and gond showed them the light. I have been very happy with the rules I found int hat book for fantasy techology. I highly suggest it. |
| Ashen Victor03-02-04, 04:47 PM | If you are looking for some "advanced" firearms in the realms just check out SKULLPORT my favorite city accesory for th FR. The table is in olde 2º edition, but I know you all know the basics to translate it to 3.5 ( I hope ). The book is now out of print so I will reproduce the table. Name Weight Size Type Damage S M L Cost Arquebus 10 lbs M p 1d10 5 15 21 500 Blunderbus 12 lbs M p 1d4* 1 2 3 500 *It is a sawed version of the arquebus and the damage seems to be wrong Musket 20 lbs M p 1d12 6 18 24 800 Starwheel* 5 lbs M p 1d4 3 6 9 1000 ! *Seems to me that is a weapon from SpellJammer, but it would have to state that it has 6 charges NOT 1 ! I would underestand a 6 shots for 1000 gp but... 1 shot for 1000!?  Dont broke your head with questions about tecnology level in FR. It it seems plausible to you, Why dont use it??? :ayyyy!: |
| Amoun03-03-04, 12:37 PM | Btw Uberjoker, while it is great you are bringing all these elements in be sure you arent for more than you can handle :p My experience is that sometimes DMs have ideas that if properly integrated would be great but sometimes it ends up being too time consuming, way too time consuming heh... So just a friendly warning to know your limits (So if you can do it great but be prepared for some work) |
