Does anyone know of any maps or resources that adress Tethyamar, the lost Dwarven mines? Our ~15th level party will likely help to reclain them as part of a larger plot arc. Aside from the old Dwarven kings remnant in Suzail what expatriot Dwarven forces might aid in this mighty under taking? I'm certain that there is still a dwarven remnant in Dagger Dale as well, but are there any canon forces or NPCs of substance that might want to get involved or even usurp the quest?

Hopefully I've posted this in the correct forum.

Thanks in advance, Steve;)

- The magic item Grimjaw in DRAGON Magazine #89, p. 18 (reprinted in FR4 and Encyclopedia Magical Vol. 3)
- 1e FRCS, Cyclopedia of the Realms , p. 54
- FR11 - Dwarves Deep, p. 58-60 and 64
- FR13 - Anauroch, p. 5 -- I thought about suggesting that the dwarves of Tethyamar could perhaps be related to the part dwarven d'tarig.

That would be a waste of bandwidth, as we can just link to it (http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0307D&L=REALMS-L&P=R1407&I=-3).

My girlfriend's Priestess of Berronar wants exactly the same thing: take Tethyamar back from the goblinoids...
It all started out with her being exploring the Eagle's Eyrie overlooking Daggerfalls as described in Doom of Daggerdale then later being granted that tract of land after the return of Randal Morn as ruler of Daggerdale (as decribed in aseries of 2nd ed adventures )...

I have decided that she could have help from the Dwarves of the Pits of Sunset Mountains, where I have placed King Ghellin after his stay in Cormyr provided she could convince them. Because of her instrumental role during the final fight against the Zhentilar forces in Daggerdale, Randal Morn will help the Dwarves not with armed men but with logistic support at a discount price (you got to have food to support a 300-dwarf expedition) plus a few rangers to help them find a lost entrance to the mine mentioned in some old maps that she got the chance to study at Elminster's Tower (actually Tethyamar fortress described in Lords of Darkness).
After all, Randal Morn has much to gain from the dwarves retaking the mines: securing their western borders against humanoids from the Desertmouth Mountains, helping deter the Zhentarim from using the dale as passage to their desert trade ways, getting a share of the trade that will sooner or later be reestablished between Tethyamar and the Dales, Cormyr or the Moonsea cities...

My stuff has been somewhat changed with the publishing of LEoF. I would love to see a "Ruins of Tethyamar"-type product.

I'm thinking in a similar vein. I'm trying to sort out and juggle the geopolitical variables associated with this and the Stonelands subplot IMG as well as the RSEs of '73 and '74.

Interesting times indeed!

I too would be interested to see the changes you would make Krash; especially since I based a part of my campaign off the original notes :D .

To see the changes, just compare George's post to the big sidebar in Lost Empires.

which unfortunately is packed away for at least a month :(
besides I'm sure George would add a few thoughs of his own to things based on the sidebar and what he had originally.

Hey guys. I'm not saying the changes in any way adversely affected my original thoughts re Tethyamar; to the contrary. Eric fleshed them out, cut out some of the more fanciful stuff (Ashaba and Shadowdale), and added the demonic 'worghest' aspect which I love.

My personal conception of Tethyamar has always been influenced by the old ICE Moria MERP product - lots of competing groups located within a vast underearth location. Orc tribes, hill giant mercs, a smattering of ogres, Zhents, a black dragon wyrmling (being groomed as a possible steed for Manshoon) and still inviolate dwarven areas - sealed off from the rest of the Mines.

Of course, Tethyamar is still pretty much a blank canvas but it would certainly rival Undermountain for 'adventure-bility'. Not sure if we'll ever see more in print on the place though ... of course, that makes it perfect fodder for homebrew FR campaigns.

What are your thoughts on how the Rage and the events in Cormanthyr in '74 would impact an expedition to retake Tethyamar? I tend to believe that they would divert friendly resources making the PCs job harder.

No party of adventurers is going to re-take Tethyamar, Rage or no Rage. It would be like sending your PCs to conquer Waterdeep (and boy, was that a godawful topic and thread last year). A campaign with the reclamation of Tethyamar in mind would have to focus on what the PCs could do to facilitate the process.

The first question would be whether the reclamation is to be undertaken for the dwarves of the Iron House. If so, the twin leaders would be "in charge" as it were. If not, then the dwarves might initially seek to 'take over' the venture. If not allowed to, they would likely take actions (openly or covertly) to defeat the attempt.

From there, the 'process' would likely involve the PCs recruiting an army, undertaking a bunch of missions into the Mines to take out major players/opponents, sowing seeds of conflict between rival groups for internal friction and then deciding whether the actual reclamation will take place "off-stage" or you get our your trusty Miniatures Handbook and game the full-scale pitched battles, or Stalingrad-like room by room, section by section eradication of the bad guys.

The only way I would see the Rage affecting such events is if a mad dragon swooped upon your army encampments etc. It may also affect your ability to recruit mercs or gather warriors to your banner. The Cormanthyr War on the other hand, would be a big drain on armed resource availability (but heck, you can ship some mercs over from Impiltur or the Vilhon). Daggerdale and Shadowdale would be supportive (well, as supportive as small, rustic dales can be) assuming that they didn't face any external threats at the time.

I think however you are correct in thinking that the current events in the environs of the Dales (and there could be more going on than the Myth Drannor war) would have an impact on your campaign. However, you're the boss, so make it what you want it to be.
