| Mr_Miscellany11-24-07, 03:03 PM | Here's the link to the WotC page featuring The Annotated Elminster (http://ww2.wizards.com/Books/Wizards/Products/default.aspx?doc=216467200). Anyone got this yet? Or maybe looked at it in the stores? I'd love to hear info on the ammount and type of notes (the annotations) in the book if anyone is in the know. |
| Stigger11-24-07, 05:17 PM | Didn't know it was out yet... gotta make a book run tomorrow to take a look at it I guess. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-24-07, 07:23 PM | I was in a bookstore yesterday and I looked for it--didn't see it. When I see it, I'll definitely pick it up. EDIT: Checked on Amazon--the book is slated for a December 4th release. |
| MerrikCale11-24-07, 09:02 PM | I have never been a big fan of Ed's fiction, but I will definately grab this. I imagine the notes will be fascinating. |
| Dark Wizard11-24-07, 09:36 PM | I haven't read the Elminster series yet, but this would be a great way to start I think. I will be getting a hold of this when it comes out. |
| Lord Karsus11-25-07, 04:02 AM | -Interesting. I didn't even know such a product was slated to be published. As I have the individual novels, I'm not shelling out the money to buy this. But, I'll certainly like to hear what little extra goodies the book comes with. |
| Mr_Miscellany11-25-07, 04:12 AM | But, I'll certainly like to hear what little extra goodies the book comes with. Short of me finding a copy at the bookstore, I'm looking forward to what other's have to say on the notes so I can decide if it's worth the purchase or not. Gotta save the pennies for only good stuff at XMas! |
| Lord Karsus11-25-07, 04:24 AM | Short of me finding a copy at the bookstore, I'm looking forward to what other's have to say on the notes so I can decide if it's worth the purchase or not. -Truthfully, though, when you think about it, there isn't necessarily anything worth paying for, provided you have the three Elminster novels that are included. Any questions we have, we can technically ask Ed himself, free of cost, over at the 'Keep. While the book might include insight about the evolution of Elminster, that's something that might have, or could be asked by someone already, and answered. -Though, I am sure that the amount of new information into the creative process for X, Y and Z will be amazing. I'm not much of an Ed fan, but I'd like to read what was going through his mind during whenever. |

Any questions we have, we can technically ask Ed himself, free of cost, over at the 'Keep. For that to be true, we'd have to assume we could know all the questions his annotations would ultimately answer, plus run the gauntlet at Candlekeep to ask them as people PM us repeatedly "...to just go buy the book and stop making Ed answer twice over!" Your up to late and thinking too hard, Karsus. But that's OK. A touch of divinity can drive anyone a little batty. |

| MarkusTay6311-25-07, 03:21 PM | :yuck: I HATE when you guys get along. ;) :P |
| Lord Karsus11-25-07, 05:11 PM | :yuck: I HATE when you guys get along. ;) :P -Getting along is better than not getting along. |

But, I'll certainly like to hear what little extra goodies the book comes with. I have the novels already, too, but I'm enough of an Elminster (and Greenwood) fan to shell out for this Annotated Edition. :) I heard there are actually going to be drawings by Ed in it (could be wrong though). |
| MarkusTay6311-25-07, 07:02 PM | I'll probably get it, maybe I'll have someone get it for me for Christmas. The only one of those I think I had was Making of a Mage, and I don't remember reading it - I either got bored with it and never finished, or lost it somehow. Either way, I know I don't have it in my collection anymore, and I never had the others, so this is definately a no-brainer for me. See... good things DO come to those who wait. ;) -Getting along is better than not getting along.Certainly... I was just joking. I much prefer intellectual debate over mindless ranting. Although ranting can be fun too, at times. :P |
| Lord Karsus11-25-07, 07:54 PM | I heard there are actually going to be drawings by Ed in it (could be wrong though). -I hope he's a decent artist, then, 'cause I wouldn't want to lay out money for books I already had, plus crappy drawings. Certainly... I was just joking. I much prefer intellectual debate over mindless ranting. Although ranting can be fun too, at times. :P -We do a lot of both. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin11-25-07, 07:58 PM | -I hope he's a decent artist, then, 'cause I wouldn't want to lay out money for books I already had, plus crappy drawings. Can't say I blame you. I've heard that he's a good artist though. Also, I'd love to pore through the novels and read all the attached notes--knowing Ed, I'd expect them to be substantial. |
| The Simbul11-26-07, 12:23 AM | There are two reasons why I do not mind purchasing a volume of three books I already possess; A) Ed Greenwood will collect royalties for his published works and commentaries, whereas he presumably does not gain any monetary compensation for his voluntary answers on the Candlekeep forums. B) the second reason was meant to be here, and in brief had something to do with 4E, pessimism, and the freeing up of funds that might otherwise occur from the collision of the two. But I have decided to hold my tongue on that subject for the time being. |
| Stigger12-09-07, 09:45 PM | Having bought it today, I'd recommend it, as the section on the writing of the books makes for an interesting read, while the Realmslore bits behind them are pretty interesting. Not sure if it would be new to those who read his Candlekeep stuff either way it goes, haven't really looked at those much, but I found it pretty informative stuff. |

I agree, it's a must for Greenwood fans. Also, the drawings are actually very nice.:) |
| Alediran12-10-07, 12:15 PM | I definitely need to make a purchase in Amazon. As soon as I can I will. |
| MarkusTay6312-21-07, 09:20 AM | I got this two days ago, and it was well worth it... especially comsidering I bought it with a Border's gift certificate I got for Christmas. :D So my net lay-out was 36 cents... not too shabby. :dancin: Great book so far - I really enjoyed Ed's foreword about the Realms and how they were started. |
| MerrikCale12-21-07, 10:57 AM | I got this two days ago, and it was well worth it... I just got it as well, with a 40% coupon from Borders. Yippee. It is nice. |
| Alkasyn12-24-07, 10:05 AM | I got my copy yesterday, at Forest Hills, and so far, so good. It's a bit dented, but after all, it isn't the most important thing for a book to look nice, what matters the most is that the content is worth reading. |
| Mr_Miscellany12-26-07, 01:08 AM | Drat. No luck for me this Christmas (was at the top of my list, even). Now I'll have to go out and buy it. :( |

| Stigger12-29-07, 02:11 AM | Naught but Coal for Mr.M... :P |
| MarkusTay6312-29-07, 11:19 AM | Boy, even during the Holidays, you have to kick a guy when he's down. :P On topic: Thoroughly enjoying this - the little snippets about the Elves and other details in "Ed's Notes" are particularly interesting. I think LK would find some of this useful for his EoF (Elven Netbook). Also, Ed's vision of the gods seems to be much more 'Pantheonic' then that in any other sources - at least in the first novel. I like this MUCH better then the 'seperatist' version presented by most designers. Maybe this was something that occurred after the Dawn Cataclysm? Also, the first book is pretty old, and yet seems to fall right in line with some of what is being done in 4e - the Elves do pay 'some' homage to Mystra, after all. Also, it's definately the best representation of the Torillian gods I've yet seen in a FR novel - Kudos to Ed for getting them RIGHT! (But... did I really expect anything less from HIM?) ;) |
