Who here has played and/or DMed these adventures. I just got the first two off ebay and once I get Waterdeep, i want to convert it to 3E and run my PCs through it. I really liked the novels, so I want to know how things went for any of you guys? Detail is optional, but would be great to know. Thanks! :)

I ran them, with moderate success, in my callow youth. They're full of Realmslore and memorable scenes and encounters, but they have what Ed called 'the horrible carrot-and-stick force-the-PCs-to-do-this central plotline': they're very linear with PCs basically accompanying the novel protagonists in their novel stories. It takes a flexible, creative DM to really make them work. If you can do that, and you liked the novels (which I didn't), go right ahead.

Yeah i ran those - basicaly let the NPCs - Kelemvore, Cyric, Midnight, Adon and even that halfling be PCs - worked like a charm

Unless your pc's are idiots and you play your npc's the same way, the Avatar triology is a waste of time.

my avatar triology followed the script for a full five minutes of game time, before the scenario got changed permanetly.

end result was a massive knock down drag-out in myth drannor three years later between a dozen different armies and a couple of dozen avatars and a 1000 of the top-rated mortal npc's of the realms, nobody but the priesthoods gave a damn about returning the tablets, as far as cyric was concerned fzoul layed the smack-down on him during the battle of shadowdale and fed him to his pet beholder maxam.

the real destruction was done by the everyday random encounter monsters who overan the countryside after the random physical and magical chaos effects took their toll on everything, the entire planet was literally devastated. "things never looked better from our dm's point of view"

Well I'll definately include all the NPCs from the books but i'll try to see what I can do to not lead too much by the nose. I'll try to have a lot of RPing in it.
