| Katak04-24-06, 11:10 PM | First off, this is a question geared toward Forgotten Realms campaign DMs - I wasn't sure if I should post here or in the 'What's a DM to Do?' forum, but I've decided to post here because all of the information needed to help me with my upcoming question is in the FR Campaign Setting book... My question is involving the Color of Ambition adventure which is included within the FR Campaign Setting book. In this adventure, my players have the opportunity to catch up to a slave trader named Mahzed. This slave trader has two young men that he bought legally as slaves, and he is reluctant to part with them, unless he is paid an amount equal or greater than what he bought them for. This is where my question arises. How much did Kizzaf sell the two young men to Mahzed for? Assuming my players don't try to take the men by force, what is the lowest price Mahzed will accept for them? And lastly, what does a healthy, strong young male human cost on the black market, anyway? I really like the idea behind this quest, but I cannot use it in my campaign until I close all of the loose ends not mentioned in the script. Any insight is greatly appreciated, Katak |

I want the Players to decide this for themselves. My whole concern is that if they decide that they will pay Mahzed for the men, I cannot possibly come up with a legitimate gold value for them. I know that a donkey is worth 8gp, but what is the value of two strong, healthy, young human men? Someone has to be rule savvy enough to come up with a reasonable number. I, myself, have no clue. I would spoil the balance of things, no doubt. |
| Lord Karsus04-25-06, 02:25 AM | -That is a good question. Firstly, it definitley depends on the area, and the condition of the slaves. For a real definite answer, I'd ask it on the "Ask the Authors" Thread. |

I remember a while ago (> 3months) there was a thread about slave prices in whats a DM to do, maybe check the archives? From what I remember of this discussion, how much does a labourer earn in a year? What about 3 years? That would be a good price. If the person has special skills, what do they earn....etc etc. I don't have the FR books here, so I can't work it out, but that would be a good way of going about it. |
