I'm running the CotSQ adventure and the PCs are about to cast a Find the Path spell and enter castle Maerimydra. In doing so the PCs will learn the password to bypass the Forbiddance spell.

The PCs may then choose to "hand over" the password to Kurgoth who undoubtably will invade the castle with his army. And then what??!

I have no idea how to handle such a turn of events. What should happen? How many casualties on either side? How far will he go? Will he be stopped? Is the adventure more or less finished if the PCs do so?

Please help!!!

Charming (via spell) or entering an agreement (via diplomacy or bluff skill) with Kurgoth will help avoid mass scale battle. It will also give the group another interesting dynamic to explore in the game.

You don't understand. The PCs will try to rally Kurgoth's forces against castle Maerimydra. That's my dilemma. I don't want to see that happen, but if it does then what? What will be the consequences? It's really stupid that the athors didn't forsee this turn of events - at least they didn't bother to comment it in any way. :(

Well, why would Kurgoth listen to the PCs? Why would his (Kurgoth) people let the PCs speak to him?

I'm not familiar with the module your talking about (otherwise I'd probably have better ideas) but I don't think it should be too hard for you to throw a few obsticles in the PCs way.

Alright, I googled a little and found this:

Which is a bit of a write up about another set of PCs playing this module.

Anyhow, given that the army has a Balor in it (which may be a deviation, but probably not too much of one) then I'd say there's a great chance the PCs would just be attacked by Kurgoth's forces.

Here's another write up about this game:

Anyhow, that's all I've got for now.

I would have the drow recast a new forbiddence when they 'feel' the old one bypassed by such a large force, effectively trapping a small part of the army inside (and depending on how they view the PCs could lead to accusations of a drow-arranged trap).
Also you have to consider that once a mass assault begins the castle will be locked down with doors shut, barred and wizard locked, patrols will set up choke-points, the mages and clerics will start playing smart with their spells, etc.
A small strike force can get in and disable the guards at the watchposts with no alarm and that is the idea for the PCs to go in alone. If they absolutley insist on rallying the army make them pay for it every step of the way (not forgetting that the weave-disruption gets worse every minute they delay and castle seiges are not quick things).
At worst, you could have the army invade the castle, come up against the fully alerted castle defences, and be stopped dead. Then start dropping broad hints that the PCs should use this attack as a distraction to get in the castle a back way and not get caught up in a long, pointless, and bloody seige.
Just my 2c of course :)
