The creator races [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-29-04, 11:30 AM I'm not an expert in realmslore so I have some questions about the creator races.

1. Are they called creator races because they were created on Toril or because they created the first civilisations on Toril or for another reason?

2. If they were created on Toril who created them?

01-29-04, 12:50 PM 1. they were created on Toril , but many had the first civilizations. Humans are one of the creator races, but they were still primative at the time elves arived.

01-29-04, 01:27 PM TThis is really a part of Faerun's history that is glossed over a little bit, AFAIK, and need some DM interpritation.
The gods at the time of creation were
Amaunator (now dead? Now Lathander?)
Jannath (now known as Chauntea)
Jergal
Kozah (now known as Talos)
Moander (now dead)
Mystryl (Mystra, history can be read in countless threads on these bords)
Selune
Shar
Targus(now known as Gargos)
Tyche (now Tymora and Beshaba)
Oghma came in prety early and was probobly around at the founding of the creator races.
What relations the dieties had to each race in unknown, at least to me.
IO may have credit for creating the dragons (as aposed to AO, who he may be, but thats a different story)
AO may have created the creator races, but who knows but the gods themselves.

01-29-04, 01:34 PM Hm, Io dosn't exist anymore in 3.0 in the FR (And even if, he couldn't create a race).

Seems I have to rule 0 a bit. When following the 3.X rulesset the whole history of the FR would have been different anyway.

01-29-04, 01:45 PM It was just a possibility, IO was considered the creator of Dragons, historicly that is.
There has been a little debate on these bords if that is the case/if AO and IO are the same entity/IO an entity of the same rase, level, what have you of AO.

So, go ahead and rule 0 it, or just leave it a mystery.

01-30-04, 05:13 PM A debate which shouldn't be. Any book that ever mentioned Io told plainly what he is: A greater god

Don't know why so many people insist that he's an overgod (much like Asmodeus, GtH clearly said that he's a greater power but still there are people who claim that GtH says he's an overgod)

PS: Note that in 3.5e Io has been decreased to an intermediate god and is no longer a greater god (see Draconomicon)
