| stranger_65411-30-05, 10:00 PM | In an upcoming game my Half Elf ranger will speak Damaran as his main language, and i was wondering does anyone have an idea what damaran sounds like? What it is similar to In Real life, or If it even is, This would help EMENSLY in getting me into character, even if i can just put an accent on my common. Thanks for the help in advance |

Names like Sergor just BEG for a big Russian accent! :) Plus, their alphabet is based on dwarven runes (Dethek), so I'm guessing that they just sound like overgrown dwarves at times! ;) |

You needn't worry about accuracy, you don't want to be too specific anyway. You just want to suggest an exotic culture, without causing the players to dwell too much that you are doing a Russian accent, rather than imagining you are a Damaran. |

Remember also that both Damaran and Common are usually considered closely related languages. This could be useful in suggesting such dialect aspects as pronunciation and phonetics with regard to the Damaran tongue. |

I thought Common used the Thorass alphabet, and had evolved from Old Common (i.e. which was called Thorass I believe, as the alphabet). Damaran is using dwarf runes, so I fail to see the connection... hmmm... I need to explore this further. |
