Sooner or later, you know this was bound to happen. I mean, Drizzt Do'Urden is to both D&D and the Forgotten Realms what Star Wars was to the realm of Science Fiction films. This drow is nothing to be denied by EVERYONE, and he just keeps getting more respect as time goes along. Me, as much as his publicity and all's starting to grate on me, I haven't fully let go of him, as the fact that I've read practically every novel made with him in it can attest to. ;) Now, I wonder what other iconic Realms characters they'll release. I think I should start a thread on that. :plotting: |

I named him! :D And he would make the coolest mini! Although I stopped buying those ugly little melted looking lumps of plastic and went back to my lead addiction. I got two of those butt-ugly shadow-giant thingies in the giant figure boxes, looked like they just hit it with some black primer. Then I got two demonic T-Rexs; That was it for me, if I wanted plastic dinosaurs I can get a whole bag from Walmart for around two bucks. I really think they dropped the ball with this, they should have mass-marketed it as a toy/playset with game rules, under the FR name instead of D&D (a lot of people still get weirded out by those initials). They could have sold 'adventure packs', with the whole cast from each novel in a box with some scenerary to go with it. You know, like 'Elminster vs. Demons' Playset, or 'The battle of mithril hall' set. Each should have come with between 10 and 24 figures, depending on the size of the playset/action diorama. Each different box could have used cover art from a novel, and people would have been buying these things up like crazy for their kids, regardless if they played the game or not. Look at Heroscape, I don't know anyone who plays it more then once, but my kids loved the pieces so much I had to buy a second set. Kids want to play with little men, the rules are just an excuse to call it a game. WotC should have jumped on that immediately, I remember the old Star Wars playsets by micromachine, I still have the Hoth and Dagoba scenery, and use it in my games. |

If WotC really wanted to make money, they should make action figures of Drizzt and company, or even new made-for-TV FR characters, then produce a saturday morning cartoon that butchers the character premise, but nonetheless brings the characters into the homes of thousands ... no, millions. Large masses of kids who will move on to reading the novels and playing the game (= even more money). I mean, WotC is a subsidiary of Hasbro ... how hard can it be? |
