| Swissknight11-23-07, 03:51 AM | Hello all. I am DMing a game in the trackless sea for the last few weeks. I have read some information about Evermeet here and there but I would like to know more about its fleet. For example, does a destroyer with solar energy propulsion make sense? What kind of weapons on-board? Thank you, I hope I was clear enough with my English.:) |
| Suin Bahhar11-23-07, 08:42 AM | Elven ships use ballistae and wizards as on board weapons. They are fast and mobile, but not because of solar powers sources (a magical sail that powers on the sun is a cool idea though), just regular windsail propulsion. I always imagine elven ships look like huge catamarans seeming to float on the watersurface and able to make sharp turns. |
| Stigger11-23-07, 09:33 AM | Elves of Evermeet for 2e had some information on the Elven fleet I think, so if you don't mind paying $4 for a pdf, I'm fairly sure you could find it useful for pretty much anything having to do with Evermeet. |

I have read some information about Evermeet here and there but I would like to know more about its fleet. For example, does a destroyer with solar energy propulsion make sense? What kind of weapons on-board? Thank you, I hope I was clear enough with my English.:) The only game info for Evermeet is in Elves of Evermeet from 2e. I'll post it, but some of it is a little out of date because Evermeet was attacked in a 3e novel. Magical Defenses: Illusions: There are Illusory islands, shoals, reefs, and other apparent hazards around Evermeet to steer others away from the island. Evermeet seems to be an empty stretch of ocean to non-elves. Weather Patterns: There is an intricate pattern of defensive storms, winds, and currents that steer non-elven vessels away. Cyclones: These regions around the island where ships can be destroyed by fierce storms that suddenly form. Numerous massive waterspouts rise from the ocean to surround an intruding ship. Reefs: Beyond the cyclone barrier is a maze of reefs, shoals, and shallows, which change regularly. Sea elves must guide ships to the harbors. Teleportation: Queen Amlaruil can teleport ships that get too close 20d20 miles away. The Warders: The island is defended by giant magically compelled sea creatures. Includes at least one Kraken, dragon turtle, and leviathan. Navy: Finest in the Realms Catamarans: 30feet long. 3 light ballistae. light, fast, and maneuverable ships. 5 tons cargo. Crew 10/ 20. Swanship: 130feet long. 3 heavy ballistae or catapults and a fire projector. Cargo 200 tons. Crew 80/ 120 and 20 marines. Dragonship: 100feet long. 1 heavy catapult. Cargo 50 tons. Crew 40/ 175 and 10 marines. Wardragon: Only 4 of these massive ships exist. 600feet long and 100feet wide. They have no sail or oars. They move magically. 10 large weapons. Cargo 200 tons. crew 200 and 1,000 eleven warriors. They also carry pegasi and giant eagles. Aquatic Elves: Many sea elves and dolphins defend the island. Aerial Navy: carefully hidden military secret. Starwings: 6 flying ships. they can land on water but not on land. 150feet long. 2 medium ballistae, 1 medium catapult. Cargo 50 tons. crew 10/ 50. They can go into Realmspace. Aerial cavalry: Includes Giant Eagle riders, Pegasus Riders, and even 12 dragon riders. Gold, Silver, and Bronze dragons. Some of the dragons and riders were killed in the recent invasion. I don't know how many are left. The Queen will only wake them if there is a major attack on the island. For more info check out Evermeet Island of Elves novel. It detail the invasion of the Island by rogue sun-elves and others.:) |
| MarkusTay6311-23-07, 02:14 PM | Not entirely pertinent to conversation, but IMG the Elven ships use a type of sail described in the old Flying Buffalo City series of resources (incredibly fun, if you can find them). They are called Sails of the Ever-present Journey-wind - in the source they are made by a temple that follows the wind god, but IMG I have them be a type of sail with a wind (Air) Elemental bound into them, increasing the speed of the ships by x2 for a certain number of hours per day. I have also allocated at least one 'Aircraft carrier" to Evermeet, copied from the design of the one in Ravensbluff (yes... there is a canon one). Basically it's just a much larger version of an Elven warbarge that has room for two dozen Griffonriders and their mounts to land and take-off. |

| Crazygx3411-23-07, 05:34 PM | I think evermeet was raided by drow too using a portal. Best way to make the elves fleet useless...:) |
| Fingoldfin11-23-07, 11:39 PM | I think evermeet was raided by drow too using a portal. Best way to make the elves fleet useless...:) Yes. There were many attacks at the same time. |
| MarkusTay6311-24-07, 03:33 PM | Nope. The attack came from a small island off the north coast (Tilrith). They came up from the Underdark, and killed ALL of the simple fisher-folk who lived there, took their boats and crossed over to Evermeet, already INSIDE Evermeets defenses, which unfortunately did not block intrusion from below on anything but the mainland. The portals you are referring to were ones used by various Elves to serve Amluiral, both prior to her Queenship and now - and they were ONLY used by Elves - no other could use them unless Amluiral gave permission. ALL of the assassins that utilized these discovered portals were Elven (AFAIK). |
| Fingoldfin11-24-07, 07:45 PM | Oops.:embarrass It has been a long time since I picked up the book. I just knew that the drow did attack.:) |
