| Roland Falantyr07-27-06, 10:50 AM | Hello. First let me say that i own Mysteries of the Moonsea and use it effectively so this is not a complaint. I am just a bit concerned though that this might be the start of a new trend and could leave us without "fluff" oriented regional sourcebooks like the Waterdeep book, silver marches, etc... Has anyone come out and announced what the next regional book will be? |
| The Simbul07-27-06, 01:20 PM | Well I suppose if it does mark the end of regional books, then on the plus side I am going to have alot more extra cash floating around to spend on trying to have a life. :D |
| theartistformerlyknownas07-27-06, 03:15 PM | That's what 2nd edition books were for, really. Download 'em from Paizo.com for 4 bucks a pop. |

| Old Sage07-27-06, 10:18 PM | it;'s not the end of regional books, WOTC was just trying something new. I think the over whelming reaction was "no likey"Indeed. And I agree with this... Note also that Ed over at Candlekeep has been dropping hints over the last few months that he's working on several FR products that don't all deal with his FR content here at WotC. That tells me that several sourcebooks or Ed-based Realmslore for future WotC FR products are still in the works. |
| BrianCritchley07-27-06, 10:23 PM | Indeed. And I agree with this... | Old Sage07-28-06, 02:18 AM | The "Knights" trilogy, specifically. And he's said that some parts of the Dales are NDA at the moment -- so unless those NDAs relate to Dalelands events in the novel, something involving the Dalelands for 3e FR may also be a possibility. |
| Kaewin07-28-06, 02:31 AM | That would be nice. I belive that a Dales/Cormanthor update is really need. So much has changed of there since the reboot and it could use a little explaining. I would even be satisfied with a Volo's guide the the Dalelands II. ;) |
| Roland Falantyr07-28-06, 10:10 AM | oooo. if they did a dalelands book i hope theres a Cormyr chapter since its a similar region |
| Caledan07-28-06, 04:22 PM | Yes!!! Feed me lore of the dales |
| BrianCritchley07-28-06, 09:16 PM | cormyr shouldn;'t be covered in the dales it deserves it's own book |
| Cli' San Aquanova07-29-06, 10:32 AM | cormyr shouldn;'t be covered in the dales it deserves it's own book QFT. Cormyr and/or Sembia deserve their own regional sourcebook. -C'SA :u:Bring Back Merfolk!!!:u: |
| Caligula07-29-06, 12:12 PM | Itīs kind of funny reading this thread....First you guys kind of complain saying itīs probably "no likey" towards the regional sourcebooks. Then you continue asking and hoping for a sourcebook over the Dales and Cormyr and Sembia! I actually think the regional sourcebooks are excellent and very important material for any DM wanting to have a spiced-up campaign. I use the Waterdeep book with great effect as my PCs visit this city in hunt for magical items. I use The Shining South with fantastic results when we play Red Hand of Doom. I used Mysteries of the Moonsea with pleasure as my players rumbled through Sons of Gruumsh. And Im sure I will be happy using Underdark when I play City of the Spiderqueen. BTW, Silvermarches is one of the best product all categories that I have seen so far for the D&D game! Everybody should get a copy of that one. Anyway, this is an interesting subject and I hope to hear more inputs on this! |
| NightBreeze07-29-06, 03:16 PM | You didn't understand very well. What they (we) like is regional sourcebooks, what we don't really like is the latest one, that is not really a regional sourcebook but a lot of miniadventures in the same area: the moonsea. |
| BrianCritchley07-29-06, 07:07 PM | mysteries of the moonsea was a very differnt format and generally said format proved unpopular |
| KnightODaRealms07-31-06, 06:14 PM | i'd love to see a sourcebook on Kara-Tur. Not a book on Rokugan L5R. I have the original boxed set and would like to see it updated. |
| Tobus Neth08-02-06, 01:53 AM | Erac L. Boyd should have done the Moonsea book; his work is so Damn good! |
| Manic Man08-02-06, 05:44 AM | They should bring back whoever wrote the 2e Moonsea book to rewrite the Moonsea region. The thing about region books that the mysteries of moonsea writers missed is always to reserve some mystery. Expose some of the previous mysteries but create new ones. For example, i always found places like the pyramid that Whisper dwelt, Ironfang keep and such to be intriguing enough to inspire DMs to develop the idea further themselves. |
| GothicDan08-02-06, 06:42 AM | I was pretty upset that nothing was said about Ironfang Keep, especially with all of the Shadow crap that's been floating around lately. And yes, I was once a fan of Shadow magic in all forms. Now I'm just sick of it. |
| saru08-02-06, 11:18 AM | Mysteries of Moonsea would have been a better book if they have add 50-100 pages of lore about this region. Even dragon magazine did a better job with the article about impiltur (and it's only a 14 pages article, not a 150 pages book) And i don't think it's the end of the regional books. It's just a try. |
| GothicDan08-02-06, 03:49 PM | Our very own George Krashos did the Impiltur write-up. :) |
| dragonfriend08-02-06, 05:55 PM | which number of Dragon? |
| woodstock121908-04-06, 10:36 AM | Look at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786941197/ref=wl_it_dp/103-8747571-3640625?%5Fencoding=UTF8&colid=ALHNI4T92VVY&coliid=I1S92NPW5N7UXP&v=glance&n=283155 ***I hope the code works |
| eldritchknight08-07-06, 03:09 AM | Cormyr: The Tearing of the Weave is an adventure, not a regional sourcebook. ENWorld has a description from a catolog that details many D&D books for next year, including the book above. Here is the link: http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=2962790&postcount=1 |
| Dargoth08-07-06, 09:50 AM | which number of Dragon? 346 |
| Dargoth08-07-06, 07:45 PM | Getting back on topic If you plan on going to Gen Con and you want to see more FR Regional source books I sugest you take it up with Wizards while your there |
| Gray Richardson08-07-06, 09:18 PM | Wizards will produce more regional sourcebooks if people will simply buy them. Wizards would love to support our hobby by selling us lots of books, but if the money is not there to turn a profit, then they will put their efforts elsewhere. You can help sway their decision by putting your money where your mouth is and buying any other sourcebooks that interest you that you do not already have. You can also help out just by talking about a sourcebook that you really enjoyed. Share your excitement. If other people on the boards are persuaded to buy it based on your enthusiasm for it, then the increased sales will help keep our hobby healthy. Likewise, many people on the boards are hurting WotC and our hobby when they express extremely negative opinions about products on the boards. Healthy and fair criticism is okay, but some of the rampant negativism and vitriol that some members write in these forums is very offputting and has the effect of souring the casual browser of these boards on sourcebooks that they might have otherwise enjoyed purchasing and reading. Sadly some people think it makes you "cool" to express strongly negative opinions, and their need to assert their identity and seek the approval or awe of other readers causes them to unfairly and unthinkingly disparage WotC and the wonderful books that the authors have worked so hard at bringing to you. I don't know if it's because they watch too much Fox News or that they spend too much time on the internet avoiding developing their social skills with real people, but somewhere down the line these fellows have come to think that a strongly worded negative opinion substitutes for polite and reasoned discourse. These people are hurting our hobby, and they should not go unchallenged. When someone says something mean, you should respond by politely expressing what you love about the books. Be vocal about it. Stand up to these naysayers! Tell them and the world how much you love your Forgotten Realms books and the fine authors and designers who write them! The fans can save the Forgotten Realms, but it will take your deeds, not just your words, and frankly, your money as well. Buy the books and get your friends to buy the books and the Realms will stay healthy for years to come. |
| Roland Falantyr08-08-06, 10:11 AM | wow great replies. hadnt checked the thread in a while. In response to a guy up there, I wasnt saying i dont want there to be regional sourcebooks...im saying the opposite. I am afraid that the latest trend is away from them when there are still some really great ones that could come out. I have based entire campaigns around books like the waterdeep book. I keep hearing about silver marches tho so ill prolly go get that one. |
| JWSIII08-09-06, 04:40 PM | I have bought every FR sourcebook since the release of 3.0/3.5, including Moonsea, but I must say - I sincerely hope they never do the moonsea format again; the book was alright, but I MUCH prefer genuine fluff/crunch sourcebooks filled with information about a region, and not a bunch of mini-adventures. Bring back the days of Unapproachable East, Underdark, Serpent Kingdoms, Shing South, ect. - Those books are freakin' AWESOME, and I would love to see more of that stuff again - I based one major campaign around Unapproachable East material, and another around Serpent Kingdoms material; my next forgotten realms camaign will probably be set inthe next awesome sourcebook to be released... Moonsea didn't even tempt me. I consider the Realms to be the best campaign setting ever produced, but I am actually in an Eberron capaign because I kinda feel like the last year, year and a half has produced nothing genuinely new for the realms whereas "sourcebook" type material for Eberron is being put out at an astounding rate - I'd really like to see a new regional sourcebook or two just to rekindle the realms love so to speak :D , but as long as Eberron is the "Hot" setting, I will probably continue to play there. ~ John |
