I know that it's open to a DM's interpretation, but I would just like anyones opinions or interpretations about future events in the Realms (according to actual Faeruniun events, within the next 1-5 years or so). This is for personal enjoyment and to be taken lightly; I'm just curious as to see your thoughts or opinions on the matters at hand (or rather the future matters at hand).

Enjoy!

I think that we will see a big show down bettween Shar,Selune and Mystra. I also believe that the Dalelands will confederate into one nation. Cormyr will be divided amongst waring nobles. I also see a resurgence of activity in the southern lands near or around AMN. Oh yeah and the shades do manage to bring netheril back.

Mostly I'm curious about whats in store for the Year of Rogue Dragons... and with the covers of a few upcoming FR novels, looks like quite a bit, and dead on to the theme of the year...

Also, more elf butchery would be good, always good. *fiendish grin* And at least a token mention of any interaction between Larloch and Shade (In my opinion if there would be any, it would end poorly for both parties)

The Banite Zhentrium will abandon the Cyricist ruled western half and use the freed up resources to conqueror the cities of the Moonsea and the Eastern Dales ie Scardale and Harrowdale

Here is a link to a HUGE invasion menacing Faerun.

However, I don't know what some PC could do in this...

It's also likely that Fzoul will try to do unto the Cyricists what they did unto the Banites and launch a Holy War against the Western faction, to bring them all under his heel. The tone I've gotten is that Fzoul is seriously gearing the Zhents up into a war machine for the greater glory of Bane. If the Dales do mount a united front, he may very well turn his attention to Vaasa and the lands East to try and encircle the region.

The Silver Marches are in for a lot of trouble from King Obould, if they can't get their heads on straight and start preparing for his imminent assault. I wouldn't be surprised if the Thayans try to tip the scales and play both sides against the middle to get their fingers into Silverymoon.

Tiamat will try to garner a greater power base in Unther, building upon their resentment of Mulhorand, and use that to further her plans against their pantheon.

Year of Rogue Dragons: A dragon rage! What else...:D

Thay's enclaves will be used as drop points for a large scale invasion.

The tarrasque takes a stroll through the eastern lands (just for the fun of it:rolleyes: )

Shar will still work in the shadows.

Chosen of all deities will pop up all over:eek:

And finally: Elminster will live on!

Man, of all the things in Faerun's future, this is the last thing I ever expected. :)

Next thing you'll tell me is that more good drow will pop up on the surface.

tiamat will pop up throughout unther and chessenta with the help of the karanoks. red wizards will make there move on the west. drow and other underdark races will emerge all around faerun. the great anauroch will be reborn and netheril will be revived and larloch will have a hand is its resurrection. all races of elves will unite for a common cause. the cult of the dragon will ride on the tails of the rage of dragons. the shining south will play a big part in the uniting of the elven races for what, only the prophets know.

I've always liked the idea of a "The Elves Strike Back" idea someone once offered for the upcoming Year of the Risen Elfkin.

i think the year of the risen elfkin pertains to the drow making a huge insertion to the surface, much larger than they are right now. Hopefully the elves of Evermeet will take their heads out of their arses and get back into Faerun, some are already realizing that what happens on the continent will impact them anyways so they might as well do what they can to strongly influence things. I think Evereska will fall to the reborn Netheril Empire and the survivors will flee to the Silver Marches, furthering swelling their strength there. Fzoul will finally gain total control of the western Zhents and with that done, will make a beeline for the Dalelands, still smarting from the defeat of Bane's army in Mistledale. The Dalelands will once again smack them down, but at terrible costs because of their indecision and inability to come together like they have in the past. They will right this wrong after the failed invasion by forming a Kingdom (can't decide who would take over rulership, maybe the lord of Shadowdale.) hmmm...can't think of anything else atm. :)

the elves have received just a little too much blasting at these past few Realms years (such as the invasion of Evermeet, invasion of Evereska, assault on the Star elves) and while I'm not a fanboy, I am getting tired of them being the same target all the time. Can't the dwarves or halflings get invovled in some Realms' shaking event at last?

Though I wouldn't be surprised if the following is dealt with:

---A resolution on the Shadow Weave; I think Mystra's not going to allow that to exist if it's within her power.

---A flight of Dragons. King-Killer Star, anyone?

---the elves getting tired of all this blasting and finally doing something about it.

Personally, I think Evil is just getting too much of an upper hand in Faerun. I personally would like a Realms' changing event that actually has the good guys CLEARLY coming out on top.

You're joking, right? Between Zhentil Keep getting nuked, Tethyr being unified and put under Harper thumb, Silver Marches rising to be the preeminent force in the North, and elves coming back in droves, I'd say the good guys are as "on top" as they could ever be.

What I'd like to see is the Twisted Rune taking a more active hand in the events. Put Calimshan solidly under their control, ally with the Shadow Thieves and thereby get their fingers into Amn, ally with Teldorn Darkhope, and take out Tethyr from all sides, thereby indirectly restoring the Shoon Empire under Twisted Rune control. For good measure, bribe Lord Hhune with full control of Zazesspur so that Knights of the Shield don't interfere with things.

Well, true, those have happened. But it seems like the rest of the events in Faerun center around evil just, well, winning.

Even now, the North is under threat (as usual), Zhentil Keep is now prospering again with Fzoul running things, and Tethyr, while strongly influenced by the Harpers, still has variables like Lord Hhune to set things awry.

As for the elves returning to Faerun, great. They're returning all right, only to face a.) Cormanthyr as a drow outpost, and b.) Evereska dealing with with the after effects of phaerimm invasion and under a shadow mythal and c.) rebuilding Evermeet. Greeeat.

Maybe I'm behind with the literature: I do get things at least 1 1/2-2 years behind where I'm at. But even so, I don't think we've seen "clear" wins on the side of good (or at least, a major coup) on the side of good.

Which also reminds me, Shar is beginning to annoy me. I know the Shadow Weave is cool and all, but she's beginning to get overexposed in my opinion.

The North is under threat as usual, and as usual nothing will come of it (except a huge orc horde coming down from the mountains only to get the smackdown laid on it by the dwarves and the Silver Marches, yet AGAIN).
Zhentil Keep under Fzoul is arguably not much more prosperous than it was in the pre-nuke time under Manshoon, when the Zhentarim were getting smacked right and left.
Tethyr has Lord Hhune, for whom I've mentioned a "good" use above. Even so, in LoI he is described as unable to spit without the King and Queen knowing about it, thereby being kept under their thumb.

And if you think that WotC will allow the Holy Elves to be defeated by any of the threats you cite, well... :D

IMO, Tethyr at least counts as a "clear win" on the side of good. Mulhorand could also be argued to be "good" since it's dominated by a pantheon of mostly good deities (and is kicking both Untheric and Thayan arse). It's evil that hasn't seen any clear wins in a while, except against other evil (Fzoul vs Manshoon).

However, I don't know what some PC could do in this... Something that can pretty much be a motto for "Official Faerun Events", where PCs, if involved at all, are generally supposed to be kept in their place as innocent bystanders observing epic events around them and gaping in awe at the heroic deeds of their betters (Mystra's Chosen et al; you know, the Designer's Munchkins).

They've got a lot of people well trained to expect a story to be told to them (and guess at what it might be).

As for my part, however, I still hold with the old addage that purple is the best burial shroud. *I* could certainly think "of what PCs could do in this" (fill in the blank of whatever "this" is, including the example you site). I, for my part, hold with the old idea that the people playing in campaigns, especially the DM, that is, the people who are best situated to know what direction to take their campaign world in, rather than waiting for someone else to spoon-feed them a story centering around the adventures of other people's characters (from novels or otherwise).

Garnet wrote:Well, true, those have happened. But it seems like the rest of the events in Faerun center around evil just, well, winning.I don't know what *you've* been reading, but that doesn't fit with what TSR has been publishing.

Now, the *LAST* thing Faerun needs is more "good NPCs destroy evil", unless the writers are trying to create an atmosphere where the most feasable campaign for people to Role-Play in (rather than observe stories from the sidelines in and be cheerleaders on the sidelines while the writer's characters dominate play on the field) is an evil campaign. Last thing we need is an "rising up" of the elves sweeping over the place as the Simbul gets her wish and Ethnically Cleanses the Slavs - er, Mulan - in the Soviet Un - er, Thay - to create Leibenstraum for the Ubermen - er, Alfenmenchen.

What really needs to happen is: some tribulations need to be visited in Tethyr (rather than Amn to Tethyr's benefit). Calimsham should recover the lands of Mir (this likely forcing a relocation of Tethyr's capital so it isn't exposed on the new border).

The Dales should *not* unite. Thay should inflitrate some, and indeed some Dale's Leaders who we all thought were "nice fellows" should be revealed as having been plotting on the side of eeevil all along.

Obold is, what, 20 levels or so lower than Alustriel? Let me say one thing: Alustriel *used* to be my fav. among the Seven Sisters, but ever since they Munchkinized the Silver Marches (depleating the citadels of evil in the region in true Monty Haul fashion and *poofing* a Kingdom into the place in a rather too "just so" manner for my tastes) that has gone away (I guess Laeral is my fav now. I prefer Khelben over the Harpers any day).

The "orc horde" that is "threatening" the North is so clearly vastly inferior in leaders (Obold being, as I pointed out, a flea compared to Alustiel et al, and Alustiel et al having the support of an army of Chosen at her beck and call if needed. All she needs to do is speak their names and Ubermages will *poof* in and destroy the horde, as usual) and troops (the various forces of the Silver Marches, all adjectives regarding how "stretched" they are in the "The Silver Marches" descriptions, are clearly superior to any mob of orcs - especially ones they have already depleated and shattered in previous stories).

IMO Mulhorand should be rolled out of Unther; I never liked that they had moved in in the first place. But then my preference is that Chessenta would have done so (after forming a League and displacing the Karanoks from Luthcheck). So, see, I'm not all nasty.

In general I believe that they should move back towards an attitude that encourages the growth of adventure ideas (which means not using the novels to decimate the "threats" of Faerun and make them less menacing while exalting the writers Characters at the expense of gameplay), so that people won't have the mindset of "not know[ing] what some PC could do in this", but return to the *OLD* atmosphere of "kewl, I know *just* how to play this out in our campaign so the players will get drawn in," and also an attitude of Epic Heroism not for NPCs but PCs (people seem to have forgotten that role-playing *was* about having one's own characters in one's own campaign be the protaganists, rather than minor characters playing bit parts on the fringes of someone else's story - the attitude people were encouraged to adopt as early as Ed's "Time of Troubles" modules and have too readily adopted, to the point where every time someone - like myself - suggests something like this they react badly to the idea and even wonder how the publishers could possibly do that - seemingly forgetting, or not having played during, the era when published game stuff managed to do just that and even presumed that to be the norm).
