The_Sleeper 07-16-03, 02:51 AM	Im looking for a complete history of Menzoberranzan, the City of Spiders. i know bits an' pieces, like it was founded by Menzoberra the Kinless after she defeated the beholder "Many Eyes" or something along those lines, within the great cavern. she led seven other families from some now fallen city (cant remember name atm) after strife engulfed the city. After her death, her daughters fought amoungst themselves for control of the city. jump a few hundred years and some war engulfs Menzoberranzan and the entire city is almost destroyed by a house Theyalla? i think that was the name. anyway, if someone could help me out a bit an give an ole cutter like me a history lesson, or at least fill in all the holes and what not, it would be most appreciated:angel:

Fredegar The White 07-16-03, 03:16 AM	First of all Welcome Sleeper! Second. The history of Menzoberranzan can be found in the old campaign setting for the realms with the same name! It can also be found in Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide To The Underdark. Unfortunately i don't have it in front of me now so i can't write it down now!! :( You can download them i think from forgotten realms downloads! p.s. Matron Mother Yvonnel Baenre Rules!!! (she ruled actually because she is dead now! you know same old story Bruenor's axe her head etc... I hope she returns from the dead and reclaim her rightfull throne!!!)

Fredegar The White 07-16-03, 05:36 AM	Yeah she was great! But only when she was a beautifull Drow female. As R.A. says her sexual exploits were legendary. After the Zin'karla incident she withered completely.I believe she was a great evil ambitious character!!

Well ... she didn't have time to wither that much (or recover, for that matter), since her daughter slew her just after Zaknafein did his heroic last deed ... Of course, her daughter was killed moments later as House do'Urden was flattened as well. Yet, as the legend among the Drow goes ... priestesses who have served Lolth well may be turned into yochlol to serve the Spider Queen eternally ... NB: Just on a sidenote, author's liberty prevailed once more with regard to Malice, since she wasn't able to cast Zin'Carla because her Wis score wasn't up to it. Nevermind though ...
Fredegar The White 07-17-03, 02:58 AM	Well what i meant (is it properly spelled?) was that if she survived it would be better to have a beautifull deadly plotting drow female than an old looking one. It helps your imagination! As for the stats i don't trust any of them! There are numerous mistakes mostly in the 2nd edition Boxed sets but it was i think due to the 2nd Edition Rules. They weren't as versatile as 3rd!! (Don't get me wrong i grew up playing 2nd edition. I love the atmosphere and the artwork especially Elmore, Brom, Frazetta but lets face it a writer's character can be translated into paper more accuratelly now!!)

Yea, Yvonnel Baenre was indeed a truely power foe. What would you expect from one who lived for more than 2,000 years, and ruled a city such as Menzoberranzan for more than half that time under the Way of Lloth. She wasnt just powerful though. she was cunning, and utterly ruthless. She could see through the facads of the Drow around her and manipulate them in almost any situation to better fit her designs. I dont think she will be doing anything too interesting in the abyss any time soon, more likely she is being tortured at the hands of some Yochlol as she fell out of favor with the Spider Queen after she killed the Matron Mother of House Dyrr. Personally i think Triel is a great new First Matron Mother of Menzoberranzan. She has indeed learned the lessons of her mother well. I think she has the potential to surpass her mother, given time of coarse, and givin she survives the troubles the city is facing in The War of the Spider Queen. As for the Do 'Urdens, i loved them all. Malice and her family, excluding Drizzt and Zak of coarse were the epitome of the Drow way of life. Oh and Fredegar, thanx for the warm welcome:cool:
