| WinterPsionic10-24-06, 12:44 AM | Ok so I want the whole series of the books outlining Drizz't's life.... Of the RA Salvatore List here (http://ww2.wizards.com/books/Wizards/Guides/default.aspx?doc=ForgottenRealms) what do/don't I need... |
| Dxzauvrinn10-24-06, 02:11 AM | These are the series and books that detail Drizzt's life and legend in chronological order: Dark Elf Trilogy Homeland Exile Sojourn Icewind Dale Trilogy The Crystal Shard Streams of Silver The Halfling's Gem Legacy of the Drow The Legacy Starless Night Siege of Darkness Passage to Dawn Paths of Darkness The Silent Blade The Spine of the World (this book is about Wulfgar and has nothing to do with Drizzt) Servant of the Shard (More about Entreri and Jarlaxle than Drizzt) Sea of Swords The Hunter's Blades Trilogy The Thousand Orcs The Lone Drow The Two Swords |
| Errean10-24-06, 09:29 AM | All of the stuff that Salvatore has written for Forgotten Realms relates to Drizzt. The Cleric's Quintet is all about a character that plays a role later in the Drizzt books and the War of the Spider Queen at least starts in the city that Drizzt was born in. If you just want the stuff that directly involves Drizzt, though, go with the above list. |

If you just want the stuff that directly involves Drizzt, though, go with the above list. Go with the above list, but omit 'Servant of the Shard', since it has very, very little to do with Drizzt. I mean, his name's mentioned a few times and that's pretty much it. It's really a story about Artemis and Jarlaxle, and the Crystal Shard. This is (sorta) the first book in what WotC has dubbed the 'Sellswords' trilogy, with the following books 'The Promise of the Witch King' and 'Road of the Patriarch' (coming out tommorrow, I think) being part 2 and part 3. The first two books, like I said, have nothing to do with Drizzt and friends, instead following Artemis and Jarlaxle, and I'm assuming that this third book will be the same. I would also say that 'Spine of the World' could MAYBE be left off that list, but it DOES deal with Wulfgar, one of Drizzt's closest/best friends, and this story impacts and relates heavily to the following book, 'Sea of Swords' (and also somewhat in following 'Hunter's Blade' trilogy). I'd say it's worth reading. |
| WinterPsionic10-24-06, 04:22 PM | So any other comments about Errrean's comments??? The Cleric's Quintet is all about a character that plays a role later in the Drizzt books and the War of the Spider Queen at least starts in the city that Drizzt was born in. Are they good Drizz't "general" sources or just side stories? Is the character from Clerics worth reading about? |

If I'm not mistaken, Salvatore sets the foreground or such of this series, and other authors just build on those and the earlier WotSQ books. And yes, I do suggest reading the Cleric Quintet series if you really want to understand who the characters in the Soaring Spirit (or, as it's called in the novels, the Spirit Soaring). ;) In fact, I'd say taking a break from reading the Drizzt novels after reading the Dark Elf & Icewind Dale Trilogies if you're hoping to pretty much synchronize the CQ cast's appearance in later Drizzt books. Note: Both all Drizzt books mentioned by Dxzauvrinn AND the Cleric Quintet series are written by Salvatore. |

Are they good Drizz't "general" sources or just side stories? Is the character from Clerics worth reading about? The Cleric Quintet is one of my favorite Salvatore stories, and I definitely recommend reading it. But reading it will only give you some insight into some "guest star" type of characters in the ACTUAL "Drizzt books", and not not to Drizzt himself. SO, if you want a "Drizzt only" type of story, or on centering on him mostly as a main character, then the Cleric Quintet isn't necessary to attain that goal...but you'd be missing out! ;) Same thing with the Sellsword trilogy (Servant of the Shard, Promise of the Witch King, and the up-and-coming Road of the Patriarch). These books center around a couple of Drizzt's enemies, Artemis and Jarlaxle, but have little to do with Drizzt himself. As for the War of the Spider Queen books, I've not read them yet and therefore can't say for sure. |
| Dxzauvrinn10-25-06, 02:22 AM | The Sellswords trilogy, the War of the Spider Queen series and the Cleric Quintet are all VERY EXCELLENT reads. But, they have very little to do with Drizzt and he isn't in them. I'm pretty sure you'll want to read them though after reading the Drizzt novels. |

Ok well there was never any question in my mind about "The Sellswords" and now I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up CQ, not to sure about WotSQ though...it'll be hard enough for me to find enough time to read through the rest before years end(that's my overall goal though considering my day-to-day and how late I'm starting I don't think it's a realistic goal. I've read a few of the earlier books and did alot of "jumping" around which I probably shouldn't have so I think I'll just restart the series from book 1. |
| Dxzauvrinn10-26-06, 11:55 PM | If you jump around you won't be able to follow some of the things happening in the books so it's best you just read the books in order. |

| Xiane10-28-06, 11:20 PM | Another place to find a Drizz't tale, even if it is a short story is Realms of Valor, detailing one of Drizz'ts adventures while he was 'wandering' which is really hard to pin point as he tends to wander between each 'set', this book was published back when TSR still owned the franchise so may be hard to procure today. Similarly there's another short story, Realms of the Underdark, which tells a tale more about Zaknafien but drizz't is there too. HE meets Lloth during his time as a page prince. So this is likely one of the ten years untolod in Homeland. Story was written by Mark Anthony rather tha Salvatore but he did a very nice job portraying the house hold. Again the book was published back in the days of TSR so might be out of print today. |
