| Tiamat204-03-07, 09:11 PM | I am considering using the Moonshaes Isles as a setting, but there is precious little 3.0/3.5 information available and I have no intention of reading the FR novels set there. Does anyone know: 1. Who the the King that preceded the Kendricks was? 2. I'm a little unclear as to the extent of the Kendrick's current power. Do they rule the entire Moonshaes Isles or just the island of Alaron? 3. Are the Moonshaes islands ruled as a feudal monarchy such as Tethyr or does the political system more resemble the Dales (in other words, are people bound to local lords, who in turn owe allegiance to higher local lords, and those lords to the High King)? It seems the political system is similar to Tethyr, given that some references are made to the petty kingdoms of Ffolk and Northlanders, but also areas also seem to suggest those kingdoms might be independent of the High King, unlike Tethyr where the greater nobles owe allegiance to the central crown. 4. Is Chauntea now the only major religion left on the Moonshaes? She's the only one listed in the FRCS, but I know Bhaal was active there for a time in the novels. Thank you. |

On to your questions. 1. I can't recall for sure, but prior to Queen Alicia, was her dad King Tristan, and before him, I believe his father who's name I don't recall. 2. As I recall, the High Queen rules the southern half of the island chain dominated by Ffolk and the Northment "rule" via a loose tribal confederation the northern half. More than one of the islands is half Ffolk and half Northmen. 3. The southern Moonshaes are a feudal monarchy. The northern Moonshaes are not quite that, as their isn't a high king as I recall, but rulerships is still passed down within a ruling Northmen's family. 4. Chauntea dominates the the faith and respect of the Ffolk under her alias of the Earthmother, a more primitive version of her mainland self. The Northmen's primary god has traditionally been Tempus. That said, the Gods of Fury, particularly Talos and Malar, as well as Bhaal, have all tried to make inroads into the islands, ultimately, with little success but lots of destruction. The elves worship the Seldarine and presumably the other humanoids worship their own pantheons. All that said, the islands are not closed and are a stopping point for some trade with Maztica, so probably have worshippers of most faiths. |
