| WraithXIII07-08-03, 11:07 PM | Who do you believe is the most powerful hero in Faerun? How about the most powerful villian? I honestly couldn't pick out one for each out of all of the personalities in the realms. This is because most every NPC is hampered by one thing or another by something that prevents them from realizing their full potential. If I had to pick... 1. Elminster 2. Szass Tam I think both of these fellows could easily hold their own in combat without too many worries. Although in my campaign, Elminster doesn't much care for my character, Sithasaran, mainly cause Elminster might have a hard time defending himself! |
| thalious07-09-03, 01:15 AM | The character featured in my Sig is the most powerful character on Faerun (the one I play in) and since he is Neutral, he could be a hero or a villian depending on the situation. This character is also 99% retired now too--only get to play him on very rare sessions. Elminster had better watch his mouth around Drax, so should Fzoul and everyone else for that matter. |
| Andion Isurand07-09-03, 03:40 AM | thalious, It is interesting that your moon elf would be listed as a grey elf, considering that the term is considered taboo and most moon elves find it very insulting. Was this intentional? and if so, does Drax designate himself as such as a means to turn the negative term into a defining one? |
| thalious07-09-03, 04:11 AM | Actually, Drax is not a Moon Elf, but that has much to do with the fact that he was born on another planet and recently relocated to Toril. Drax has adventured on Toril many times in the past. Drax is aware now that Elves in Faerun view the term Grey Elf as a negative one. Drax true to his Grey Elven lineage cares not for the opinions of others and is content to let his actions define his status on the Realms. |
| Savras07-09-03, 07:02 AM | The most powerful villian? Either Larloch or the Creeping Doom, both can take Szass Tam in a blink of an eye (Larloch is a netherilian archmage with an army of vampires and liches, all of which are powerful mages and an army of lesser undead and the Creeping Doom is a Black Great Wyrm Wiz20\Arc5 Dracolich, CR 49.) Savras |
| Ilbreth Shadowblade07-09-03, 09:18 AM | Yeah, what Savras said. And about the heros - probobly El. |
| RabidAngel07-09-03, 11:49 AM | Larloch or the Creeping Doom, definitely! On a basis of sheer power wielded (the lich army), I can't imagine anyone or anything touching Larloch. Thalious, I think the question was related to NPCs officially embedded in Realm-lore. Not to knock your character. ;) There are thousands of PC's out there who have reached ridiculous levels of power, although I haven't seen any quite reach "93rd". I would think that trying to play at such levels would be absurd but it doesn't really matter if it's fun! :D |
| Xae'an07-09-03, 07:01 PM | Hero: Elminster or the Simbul Villain: My first thoughts were Szass Tam and Klauth, but then Auril's priestess Iraclea came to my mind: Unlike any other villain in the realms, she is able to cast epic spells. |
| Gadodel07-09-03, 07:46 PM | The most powerful Hero? The very one you are playing at this time. That Hero really is the only one that matters in this instance. That Hero's actions or inactions are the catalyst for whatever agenda that matters in this instance. |

| Faeryl Zauvirr07-11-03, 05:45 AM | In my game El isn't a hero anymore as he has retired. I don't consider the Simbul a hero either. She is powerful but much of her time is spent governing her realm. I think the most powerful hero would be Storm Silverhand or 'the Blackstaff'. |
| Drakken07-12-03, 11:47 AM | Shadrax, a shadow great wyrm, the most impressive in power I have seen. Don't know really if he applies for either hero or villain, but at least he's the most powerful I've seen. |
| Nightingale 707-12-03, 12:07 PM | Hero:Elminster(duh!!!) Villain:Telamont Tanthul! He trumps Larloch in personal power and he has the city of Shade at his command. Can anyone deny the power of a city whose lowliest citizen is a level 1 Sorcerer?!! |

Yeah, if there is one thing I've learned from D&D, it's you don't mess with the power of 5,000 simultaneous Magic Missiles. :D :D :D |
| Nightingale 707-13-03, 07:14 AM | What about a simultaneous mass Grease spell?I bet any general would be dumbfounded to see a whole charging regiment slip and fall down:D :D :D |
| Savras07-13-03, 07:21 AM | Tellie Tanthul won't recognize true power until Larloch's army of Vampire and Liches Archmages will hit him. Of course he'll also have to deal with Larloch's army of lesser undead and the fact Larloch (and his archmages) had spent the last few millenia in devising new spells. As a hero, I would choose Khelben. He rocks. Savras |
| Rogue Shadows07-13-03, 09:16 AM | It all depends, really. In terms of raw fighting skill, then it's likely to be Drizzt Do'Urden or Artemis Entreri. They have skill. In terms of raw magical might, then it's most likely Elminster or Szass Tam. Although in the end it really depends on how much time that they all have to prepare. I mean, Elminster, one-on-one, would blast Drizzt away easily. But if Drizzt were to, say, stab Elminster in the back while he was sleeping... In the end, I'm sure that it's a simple comparrison of CRs, in game terms. In terms of thier existance in novels, however, it's really more dependant on who's writing, and thier personal favorites. |
| Quicknickel07-14-03, 02:26 PM | Assuming we omit the various dieties that roam the face of Faerun, there is still a host of wickedness out there with more power than Szass Tam. There are a few members of the Twisted Rune with more than 30 levels as a wizard, there is Shoon VII, who is over 30th level, and a demi-lich possessed again of a body, Larloch is listed somewhere in published materials as a 46-47th level wizard, and he is probably nearly 2000 years old. However, the most powerful evil baddie out there I can think of is probably Ambuchar Devayam, who is actually Tan Chin, the 1st (3rd?) Emporer of Shou Lung. He is living in the city of Solon, and information of him can be found in both The Horde campaign setting and in the original Oriental Adventures setting of Kara Tur. Tan Chin is at least 3200 years old, started as a powerful warrior of good before coming corrupted, and is probably in excess of 50-60 levels. And he's busy digging up ancient ruins of the Artificers/Imaskaris. Definate epic campaign material. |
| Ilbreth Shadowblade07-14-03, 05:07 PM | Where is Shoon VII stated, or at least mentioned? |
| Elereth_Berantor07-14-03, 05:20 PM | Has Larloch been given any levels in any 3e material? I have all the FR books but haven't devoted the time to searching through them for him. |
| Quicknickel07-14-03, 05:53 PM | The Shoon Saga is covered in Lands of Intrigue. I think Shoon was first mentioned in the original FR campaign books, along with the Tome of the Unicorn. Shoon's bootlickers more than challenge any normal levels of characters. Shoon himself is definately epic material. I doubt any part less than 30th level could survive without severe DM intervention. |
| Amoun07-14-03, 10:01 PM | Perhaps not the most powerful, but my players hate his guts to extreme ends... His name is Salazar he is a blackguard (27th lvl), he is cruel and evil ehhe. I played him in one of my previous campaigns and killed off my good party (hey I was acting like a paladin lol)... I changed groups when I moved, but my new players have a similar dislike for the bastard. He is a blackguard who used to have a pact with a powerful devil (Infernal actually).. After slaying the infernal he dabbled in Hell's politics for a while, got the title of Baron of Ice, decided he didnt like hell and moved to Faerun again. He used to be human, but now he has wings, hooves, and a godly strength and charisma. In the last three parties I DMed he only showed up 5 times (4 times in one campaign and 1 in the last)... He foiled the players' elaborate plans (they actually were pretty stupid), killed off 2 pcs and then ran off when he was about to die... In another encounter he burned their keep, which they slaved over. Mind you I have heard the players talking about killing him very slowly... their hatred for him is amazing hehe. I can still hear their screams and battlecries as they attempted to kill him very permanently. The pcs only regret for their characters is the inability to kill the putz... hehe such a hated villian is praise worthy... alright he isnt the most powerful... but my pcs would rather see no one else killed but him. and the beauty, he was one of my previous pcs hehe.. Its good to be evil MUAHAHA  |
| Triton07-14-03, 10:16 PM | Has everyone forgotten Halaster. He has successfully charged into Hell. Staved off Khelben and the other Chosen of Mystra. Never been defeated by the Host Tower, Red Wizards, or the Cult of the Dragon in repeated attempts. Not to mention that he controls, runs, and maintains the truest dungeon in the known universe. And for those who have been messen' with him. Mystra cured his insanity on page 204 Elminster in Hell . As for heroes don't downplay Drizzt. He has defeated many very powerful evil beings. He may lose in a head to head battle with a powerful mage, but is much to cunning to stand out in the open. But even given this. I still would must fear El. Multi-classed, cunning as hell, and he has Mystra and the Simbul for girlfriends. The dude must not only be super powerful, but hung like a horse.:D |
| Ivarrius07-14-03, 11:37 PM | I think that given the right circumstances, F'zoul Chembryl is a villain to be quite feared. Besides being the Man in charge of the Zhents, his chosen of bane template, and the ability to summon Death Tyrant Beholders... well... that makes him scary enough to me. And hero? Sorry gotta say Elminster. He has more than paid his dues, and has the favor of Mystra in any situation. Ivarrius |
| Aelreth07-15-03, 07:39 PM | Hero Estelda Oluevaera (Srinshee) Villain Larloch |
| WraithXIII07-19-03, 09:56 AM | Originally posted by Savras Tellie Tanthul won't recognize true power until Larloch's army of Vampire and Liches Archmages will hit him. Savras This Larloch sounds like fun. Where are his stats so I can turn him and his army into a slimy grease spot in the middle of the Anarauch? See, the sad thing about this Larloch joker is that he doesn't actually hold true power. How many common citizens of the realms has heard of him? Probably not near the number that has heard of Szass or Elminster. That is power really, when you can awe people with just your name. Heading an army means nothing, I mean come on, El greased Bane during the ToT, and Szass Tam has managed to hold power in a nation that spells death for most politicians. Drizzt and Entreri, very powerful as well. There are so many and its hard to pick, but hey, we all have our favorites! |
| GoodOlWillickers07-19-03, 12:19 PM | In 2e, if you want it in terms of raw character levels, it was The Simbul (30th level mage). Overall, Elminster was still more powerful, even though he was only 29th level. Pshaw, pansy. In 3e, there's no question that it's Elminster. |
| Zardnaar07-19-03, 07:45 PM | Larloch is in lords of darkness. I think he was level 32 Netherise Lich which would make him one of the the most powerful spell casters for evil. I think that Shade Prince beats him though. Telamonts level 35-36 or something with at least 10levels of Shadow adept PrC. |
| TempistRane07-19-03, 09:21 PM | Well in my realms campagin it would have to be my now long retierd character Kacesen Black a rogue/ master assassin and is now seting up plans to over throw the arcan brotherhood with his assassin guild |
