I'm looking for sources of information on this ancient war.

I have access to a large pile of 2nd Edition realms products to delve through. Any and every scrap of information of the slightest significance is entirely welcome!

Hmm don't remember ever hearing about that... but it got me rather curious... have not found much on the Orcgate wars yet, but a google search turned this up

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030301a

It has a tidbit on the start of the wars... hopefully it will be helpful...

a couple of thousand years ago just north of mulhorand a bunch of orcs and their allies were getting stomped by the forces from mulhorand, the remaining priest of the orcs got together and called upon there gods for help, next thing you know a gate to a world ruled by orcs opened up and out poured a million orc warriors led by the avatars of the orcish pantheon.

the god-kings of mulhorand stirred into action, there was a few ToT style clashes, a god-king or two bit the dust, and the rest drove the orcish pantheon and there mighty horde away.

I think Set wasn't allowed to help out in this battle, he was restricted/imprisoned within the boudaries of the Raurin Desert, a.k.a. "Dust Desert, Stone Desert, Desert of Desolation" and may still be stalking that terrible place today, don't know if Ao allowed him to roam free after the ToT ended, then again he might not want to leave the place, there is no doubt he rules that place by now and all the ancient secrets of the mulan enslavers would be his.

P.S. If you ever happen to be in the Desert of Desolation, and find your self near the Oasis of the White Palm, stop on by my tavern and have a drink and the best meal ever on me, can't miss the place, it looks like a giant white igloo, be sure to call me Hogan, the folks around here don't know about my colorful past, I'd even be happy to take you on a looting spree of the secret local Temple of Set.

The Orcgate Wars occured between -1076 DR to -1069 DR. The 3rd-Edtion sourcebook Unapproachable East has a surprising amount of information on the subject.

A good summary of the war can also be found on p.263 in the FRCS. FR10 Old Empires is a decent source as well.

Not quite so.

The orcs were called through a gate from annother world to beginn with and the reason why they called upon their gods was because the forces of Mulhorand were the first who were aided by avatars of their deities. The appearance of the avatars of the orc gods did only rebalance the forces
