| Purple Dragon Knight10-06-03, 05:10 PM | Wow! unless I've missed something, I didn't know that the Imaskari had created the Phaerimm!! :OMG! Check this new WotC article about the new Underdark supplement: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003b If this is new (assuming I've missed nothing), WOW!!!!! This is MAJOR news!!! especially that the Phaerimm is now loose on Faerûn (again, that's if I understood the end of The Sorcerer by Troy Denning correctly)... I can see my next PC or NPC: a lone Imaskari mage with his memories of Deep Imaskar wiped out, on the constant trail of anything related to the Phaerimm, vowing to spend his life destroying them. Hmm... alliance with the Shade possible... yes... Excellent! (rambling off) :mymy: :whatsthis :mage: :tiphat: |
| primemover00310-06-03, 05:17 PM | As interesting as that is I'm more excited about a fundamentally human, neutral Underdark race! Maybe Deep Imaskar is the foil to the return of Shade? |
| Pandelume10-06-03, 05:35 PM | Part of me is happy that we might find out more about phaerimms. Part of me feels like Imaskari was the last true unknown super magic kingdom. Now their runing a Shade like story on them.... :( One question comes to mind if Imaskari created the phaerimms maybe they have a way to control them.... |
| Ryltar Swordsong10-06-03, 06:10 PM | I think they are interesting. And they are different from Shades, since Shades want to re-establish their fallen empire of Netheril. According to the article, the Deep Imaskari are interested in exploration and finding out about the world they left behind. |
| sanishiver10-06-03, 07:23 PM | Wow, good spot, PDK. I've forwarded your message to the Realms-L mailing list. :whatsthis |
| Ryltar Swordsong10-06-03, 07:27 PM | Originally posted by Pandelume One question comes to mind if Imaskari created the phaerimms maybe they have a way to control them.... The article says they have lost much of the knowledge they once possessed. So even if they used to have such a control method, they most likely have lost it. |
| Herr Doktor10-06-03, 08:08 PM | The article also says:the Imaskari were destroyed by the slaves they had abducted from other worlds (who eventually became the folk of Mulhorand and Unther) and the machinations of unusual creatures of their own creation (the phaerimms).Which leads me to believe that if they ever had power to control the phaerimms they somehow lost it at that time. |
| The_Sleeper10-06-03, 09:50 PM | sweet!! they sound great to me. i wanna know more:smirk: |
| Triton10-07-03, 08:51 AM | This isn't canon material, but it does seem to follow many of what we are hearing about Imaskar. http://www.geocities.com/athens/ora...t/timeline.html It is a timeline of Imaskar and the Phaerimm. I'm told it's pure fantasy on the part of an avid Realmswatcher, but I like it all the same. |
| The Spellcasting Sorcerer10-07-03, 03:45 PM | The possibility of Deep Imaskari women running around with names like Hawaususi and Warmiwillka is disturbing. :D I like the race a lot, and I can't wait to find out more about them. The Spell Clutch ability is certainly useful. |
| Iakhovas10-07-03, 07:21 PM | Wow, the moons in the heavens must be aligned perfectly. Within a span of a single year, three lost high-magic empires return to Faerûn after millennia of isolation -- The Shades, the Star Elves, and now the Deep Imaskar. Yeesh, why not bring back Shanatar, Aryvandaar, and Shoon while your at it. |
| Triton10-08-03, 09:09 AM | The Shoon Empire is on the rise mortals:b: |
| The_Sleeper10-08-03, 02:04 PM | Star Elves? im not familliar with them lol. |
| Kuje3110-08-03, 02:15 PM | Originally posted by The_Sleeper Star Elves? im not familliar with them lol. They are new and from the Unapproachable East sourcebook. :) |
| The_Sleeper10-08-03, 02:28 PM | Ahh, thanx Kuje31. Ill have to do some research on them:D |

It seems the Forgotten Realms are assailed by their past these day. The line should get renamed the "Recently Remembered Realms", or RRR (R3? 3R?). :D |
| Herr Doktor10-08-03, 04:47 PM | Well... It is the Year of Wild Magic. Besides... Just because player's in the Underdark can now choose to play as someone from Deep Imaskar does not mean they're empire has returned. They are no longer evil, and it says that they've just recently begun leaving their gate:Now, however, deep Imaskari isolation is coming to an end. The magical seal that so long protected the kingdom of Deep Imaskar has been breached, and a few deep Imaskari have begun to wander the deep ways of the world that their ancestors fled long ago.Doesn't seem anything like the return of Shade to me. No threat to anyone really, and it really isn't upsetting anybody (excepting whatever other underdark races dwell nearby, and they're constantly at way anyway). |
| Kuje3110-08-03, 04:49 PM | Originally posted by Herr Doktor Well... It is the Year of Wild Magic. Actually it's 1373 - The Year of Rogue Dragons :). The last Sembia novel, Lord of Stormweather, changed the year to 1373. :) |
| Archade10-08-03, 06:15 PM | What serendipidy! Actually, I've already been using the Imiskar in my campaign. I had an underground civilization of stunted, gollum-like humanoids called the Imiskar (amazingly similar in stat-block to kobolds, hmm!) and a twisted, misshapen bunch of tribesmen in the Ganath Wood and the Methwood (amazingly similar in stat-block, less the spider bits, to ettercaps) called the Roushoum. |

| Zardnaar10-09-03, 12:55 AM | Whats the bet some elven mythal city reappears after a millenia or 5 absense. Somewhat of an overdone storyline though. |

Maybe Myth Adofhaer, since it's been floating around some where for a few decades or centuries. Maybe it's time to return it to FR also to add it to the list of ancient empires and cities that are returning. :) |

Remember the dwarf armies marching towards Amn to retake to Wyrmskull Throne and such? Man, so much for *lost* empires...more like "empires that were hiding but have now decided to return so they can be sword fodder for adventurers". |
| Amoun10-09-03, 07:46 AM | hehe I love it... its a bit overdone but I love all the new possibilities that arise from these "rebirths" of ancient empires... My FR is really different, so perhaps these empires can balance out all that my pcs have done to the world.... not to mention what some of my old characters have done.. MUAHAHAH *Err... sorry got carried away*.... Remember the golden rule, if you dont like it... dont use it :P |

| Triton10-09-03, 09:12 AM | Don't forget Bruenor is trying to find the lost dwarven city of Gauntlgrym and Gerti and King Obauld trying to claim the north for humanoids again. |
| The_Sleeper10-09-03, 02:39 PM | Hehe, dont forget the Drow of Lloth might be overthrown too.:OMG! |
| Purple Dragon Knight10-12-03, 04:31 AM | Here's a picture of Deep Imaskar. Very cool IMO. The circular gravity field reminds me of Sigil, that donut-shaped city back in 2e Planescape... :D http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/ud_gallery/52122_CN.jpg |

| Cunning Linguist10-12-03, 07:47 PM | I think that spiked lady is not a lady at all, but Amaunator, who’s symbol is sun with a face on the solar disk... |
| ikki10-12-03, 07:57 PM | Originally posted by Cunning Linguist I think that spiked lady is not a lady at all, but Amaunator, who’s symbol is sun with a face on the solar disk... So a little reminder of the surface.. what a wonderful shock the discovery of Amaunators death will be :) Just what i`ve always said. Stick to the elemental lords, all the "gods" are just too fragile  |
| Kain's avatar10-12-03, 11:31 PM | Originally posted by Cunning Linguist I think that spiked lady is not a lady at all, but Amaunator, who’s symbol is sun with a face on the solar disk... Didn't the Imaskari shun all gods and think they were above them though? |
| Cunning Linguist10-13-03, 03:39 AM | Didn't the Imaskari shun all gods and think they were above them though? They might have put him there to remind them of the sun, and nothing more. I’m sure I would like to have a sun reminder if I was forced to move underground.. but I would also like a star reminder. But anyways, it really really looks like a sun, and the face in the middle is kind of like Amaunators symbol, and he was the sun. The timeframe also fits, but I'll just have to wait and see.. |
| Gez10-13-03, 08:41 AM | As far as I know, the first description of the Imaskari had them ultimately deciding that gods weren't worthy of worship, and so they attacked and killed their own gods. Later, this was modified to have them fail in destroying their gods. |
| Shemeska the Marauder10-13-03, 01:11 PM | Originally posted by ikki not to mention the picture on the wall a spiked lady... i do wonder if Sigil and Imaskari have something in common..? :) *chuckle* No. :) Though no doubt the Imaskari at their height knew of Sigil, being that they had a mastery over portal magic and well 'All portals lead to Sigil' in some manner of speaking. And the image there in Deep Imaskar really doesn't look like Her Serenity The Lady of Pain. |
| The Spellcasting Sorcerer10-13-03, 04:39 PM | Might the symbol be that of Mystra? After all, her old (pre-Midnight) symbol was a blue-white star. Maybe they just added a woman's face to it. |
| Vulpes10-18-03, 12:48 AM | Most likely, it's a sun symbol just to remind them of the surface. The little Deep Imaskari excerpt does say, BTW, that the Imaskari do worship gods now, though they're not particularly pious. |
| Rek010-18-03, 02:31 AM | I dont really think its on the wall myself, but floating in the air, pulsating with light (and like Vulpes said, representing the sun) I like this idea about underkdark races that arent evil (or good) Maybe now when someone says underdark i wont autamaticly think of Drow, Duregar, and Illithids. |
| Gray Richardson05-07-04, 12:08 AM | That solar disc in the Deep Imaskar picture has got me all intrigued. Hey if all these forgotten empires are returning--including the Imaskari... And if the Imaskari still worship Amauntar... Maybe we will see Amauntar return to Faerun as well. In fact it has been said elsewhere on the boards (maybe by Rich Baker I think) that Amauntar, Lathander, and an unnamed 3rd god are tripartite aspects of the rising, mid-day and setting sun. It is not too far a stretch that it may be close to time for Lathander to wax back into his Amauntar aspect. I don't know if that would entail Lathander making a transformation or if Amauntar wakes up in the Astral, shows up on Faerun and calls Lathander out. Or maybe Amauntar shows up at the gates of Lathander's palace on the House of Nature and dukes it out with Lathander gladiator style so that Amauntar can take back his rightful portfolio. Or a third possibility is that maybe Lathander dies and a new mortal takes his place with a brand new name but manifesting the mid-day aspects of the sun portfolio. I see all sorts of cool story possibilities if Amauntar were to return and assume the mid-day aspects of the sun portfolio. For instance once the mid-day aspect becomes prominent, it is only a matter of time before the setting-sun aspect comes into prominence. I could see Cyric "the Black Sun" becoming mortal enemies with Amauntar and vying to kill him and take the sun portfolio as his own as the setting-sun aspect. Maybe we would find out more about the Dawn Cataclysm and how the seeds of Lathander's downfall (or metamorphosis) were sown as far back as then. |
| Falstaff the Fighter05-07-04, 12:54 AM | I could see Cyric "the Black Sun" becoming mortal enemies with Amauntar and vying to kill him and take the sun portfolio as his own as the setting-sun aspect. I could see me not buying anymore FR books if WOTC doesn't knock it off with the "returning elder race" stuff. This is like 3 of them now? |
