In my campaign, at the beginning of every year, a new page appears in Alaundo’s book of prophecies. I wrote out the prophecies as a sort of guide for my campaign. I thoguht I'd share it with all of you.

The Year of Rogue Dragons

Woe to you who live in this time,
For a mighty rage in heaven arises.
And as all things happen above,
So to do they happen on earth.

Red fire spreads from the east,
Consuming cities from great to least.
Chondath’s heirs will wear a crown
But earth and air and water perish.

Rogue dragons rise to blacken sun;
Shadows banished when darkness comes.
A king lies besieged within his keep,
But no army rides to his aid.

From the south comes a king of old,
Wearing the mask of fairness and youth.
The Black Sun scatters before his light,
But in his heart lies blackest night.

Murder revealed before the company,
A great lady parted from her people.
Bloody kin-strife demands appeasement,
But the brother questions the price of war.

From a wise ruler comes a foolish heir.
Concubine clouds his vision with despair.
An empire falls when oaths are broken,
And the wise lie vanquished and disarmed.

A thousand dead knights will ride forth,
Much lamenting before the wedding van.
From the union of two bleak houses,
Carrion crows and chaos flowers.

The Keep of Air finds its lost kingdom,
Hidden beneath an ancient’s lie.
Uncounted grains of sands conceal,
A million tears from fallen lands.

Black moon gives rise to twin heirs:
The son struck down before the father,
A sacrifice before the armies of the light
Loyal daughter breeds dissension.

The lords of fury loose a tempest,
Showering their wrath upon all the land.
Honeyed words from the Queen of Lies
Turns their anger upon the just.

The first movement of this lay,
Upon the harp of discord plays.
Woe to men, and woe to the gods,
For as below, so too above.

Any comments? Suggestions? Ideas? I think its an abrupt end, but we'll see.

Quite interesting ascendance. Do you have prophecies for other years as well?

Hm, if this is meant as a reference to reborn Bane and Cyric, i think the verse should rather be:

From the south comes a king of old,
Wearin the mask of fairness and youth,
But even he will burn in the Flames of the Black Sun,
While his realms and armies come undone

Otherwise, good work. I can only second Iakhovas: Do you have anything more of this terrific stuff?

Actually, the king of old from the south wearing the mask of fairness and youth is 99% likely Shoon IV.

No, no other years. I started writing a little for the year after, but I decided to fold it all into one long prophecy. I wrote this specifically for my new campaign.

Israfel is right. The king of old is Shoon IV. His plan for building a new empire in the South is to lead a crusade against the Sythilisians and the worshippers of Cyric.

Not just any crusade, mind you. At one point, I was considering having Shoon make a deal with the Zakharan gods to spread their worship in Faerun. After all, why not go all the way with the current Ottoman/Granada pastiche in the Realms? :)

One of these days, I'll post my line-by-line analysis. The major plotline of my campaign, however, is that Bane and Shar formally ally, marry, and turn against many of the other evil gods. Particularly Cyric and Mask.

Did you use any particular rhyme scheme or rhythm?

Each line was supposed to go 8-10 syllables, and as long as it sounded right and had decent rhythm, I went with it. Most of it should have a stress/no stress/stress rhythm scheme. At one point, I was thinking of having a rhyme scheme, but it looked and sounded bad, so I stayed away from that. That came out of having a few random lines rhyme (heir and despair).

Before the novels "Beyond the High Road" and "Death of the Dragon" I came up with this ditty about the Sleeping Sword of Cormyr:

“When Sitral’s brood pace the cobbles deep,
And great wyrms scour the twisted stones,
Ondeth’s blood will set the Lords Who Sleep
To slumber in Grolag’s bones.
For legions of fiends and the walking dead
Will bring ruin to this wooded land,
Unless those who should have been long dead
Array for battle and take stand.”

The Sitral's brood line is a reference to Chalathangas Sitral, an elf who lived in present-day Marsember. He is noted in the novel "Elminster in Myth Drannor" when El and the Srinshee are going through the treasures of the Vault of Ages.

Grolag is my own invention: a goblin chieftain of Hlundadim (see Elminster's Ecologies and the FR Boxed Set (II)) who was buried in the Stonelands. His tomb serves as the resting place for the Sleeping Sword.

The "cobbles deep" reference refers to flooded Marsember as I had the Sleeping Sword formed in c. 296 DR by King Keldroun of Cormyr. At the time, Marsember was flooded and inhabited by lizard men - who coincidentally slew his brother Gordroun and hence placed him on the throne.

I don't know about the prophecies of Alaundo... If there's info on that out there, I should like to read it.

As for the names of years... Years ago, I found on the Wizards page a listing of the Roll of Years. It goes from -700 DR to 1600 DR. I don't know if it's still on the Wizards page anywhere (I don't like their search function), but if not, it should be easy enough to find on a Google search. Search for "Roll of Years" and "Forgotten Realms"

The original listing, as I recall, had them listed in both alphabetical and chronological order. I was just looking at those documents last night, in response to another thread. :)
