Dear Forumists,

I am trying to give a twist to my Silver Marches campaign and I heard bits and pieces about what is happening in the latest novels of Salvatore, namely that the orcs are on the rise, conquering land and about to destroy on major city of the North (?).

This sound quite appealing to me and I might want to include these events in some form into my campaign. But I do not have the time to read all those novels... :(

Is there any information available about this war in any other source, in condensed form? Would it be legally OK for anyone to summarize the events happening there? I do not care about the individual characters or the novels, I am just interested in the "Realmslore" from a gaming perspective.

What are the events unfolding and how does it influence the setting and the Silver Marches?

Thanks to those who will reply.

well the orcs have been driven back from thre door step of mithril hall etc but they still control large areas of land in thre north and are fortifing it, however the info about what exatly obold controls seems pretty sprase.

And they are fortifying the land they control over the winter. Silverymoon and the other cities aren't going to help Mithral Hall repulse the orcs but will defend Mithral Hall from the orcs.

Well, it looks like we'll be getting another trilogy by Salvatore concering the repulsion of the orcs (sort of a pun...yea) and the Companions' quest for Grindylkin (is that the name?) a lost dwarven stronghold, much like Mithral Hall.

Meanwhile, yes, the Orcs are building up in a big way, and Silverymoon/Everlund have pledged to help defend Mithral Hall, but won't commit to a massive offensive. I'm willing to bet that Lady Alustriel (and maybe some of the other sisters, as well as Elminster/Blackstaff, and the Harpers) have their fingers in the jelly, not wanting to step in just yet, but I bet they have a plan that Bruenor hasn't been clued in to yet. He's probably part of a prophecy or something, what with coming back from the dead and all.

Maybe the elves will get involved on a larger scale? I should hope so, as this is shaping up to get intense real quick.

Oh yea....that too. *curses himself for disregarding babies*

But honestly, once they find her, (and I don't think it'll be that hard, word that that woman has Wulfgar's baby will spread) do you think Wulfgar and Catti-brie (because you know they'll be an item again) will want to carry her along with them while adventuring? I've a notion that they'll just make a foster mother out of that woman and carry on, retrieving her after all's said and done. Really, Silverymoon is the safest place for that kid.

What!?!

Meaning no disrespect but one of the sub-plot lines in the Hunter's Blades trilogy was devoted to Drizzt and Cattibrie finally becoming a couple. Wulfgar even encouraged her to give in to her feelings for Drizzt in book 2. And at the end of the trilogy Drizzt and Cattibrie...ya'know...hooked up.

As to her feelings for Wulfgar, they were resolved several novels ago. She's traveling with Wulfgar right now out of friendship and loyalty, nothing else. Now, I will admit that Wulfgar seems to still be harboring some feelings for her, but he understands that her heart belongs to Drizzt now.

Isn't Wulfgar married now?

Anyway, Obould's kingdom is shaping up to be the next major event in the Realms. The elves are rebuilding near his kingdom, so they'll want to make sure their interests are not hindered. Waterdeep seems to meddle in every little thing, as well as the Harpers. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is meddling nonetheless. Yup, sounds great for another trilogy.

Pah.

All hail the might of the orcs.

Frankly, I like having a major orcish power -especially in the North- and, even though I know it won't happen, I'd like to see them wipe out Mithril Hall, Luskan, Ten-Towns... I'd the board swept clean, barring Silverymoon (which I'm sorta partial to, so it's a wholly biased exception).

Won't happen in canon, but it's a fun idea to toy weith. The influx of refugees to the southern lands would be massive, to say the least.

See, I dunno about that. I really don't. I think that old flames are gonna rekindle, especially with Wulfgar in his grief. I know that Drizzt rambles in his narratives at the beginning of each section about "we must live life one day at a time, I love happiness, laughter is sweet, I wish I was a real elf but I cannot reject my heritage, is killing goblins wrong yada yada yada" and this basically tells us that yes, he does have the hots for Catti-brie. However, I think that both of them will realize the folly of such a relationship, and remain just very very good friends. After all, Catti-brie has what, another 40 years left? She's edging in to her mid to late 30's right now. It's what, 1374 DR, and the Icewind Dale trilogy was 18 years ago? Assuming she was Wulfgar's age, (23) that puts her at 41. However, I'm willing to bet that she was a year or two younger, so we'll say her late 30s.

Anyway, she and Drizzt both know that she's gonna kick the bucket before he even reaches what passes as the legal drinking age for elves. Therefore, I think that her and Wulfgar get back together in the next series, and Drizzt fully realizes his feelings for Innovindel (sp).

Nothing says they still can't love each other, but I think that being a couple is out of the question.

P.S. If my dates are wrong, or my math, please correct me. I'm pretty sure I'm right, but I don't want to be a pompous ass about it.

P.P.S. I just spent 15 minutes assembling a post that argues whether a fictional woman and a male from a fictional race really love each other in a fictional world, and the author is going to tell us what happens anyway. Are we all clear on that? lol.

And how. I have this way of not walking the line, but instead stomping all over it, and then turning it into a very wiggly line.
