Does anyone have any info on the Sharn - those chaotic alien mages? Are there any novels about them? Or any info about them other than in The FR Monster Book?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

You never heard of the Sharn?

The Sharn are one of the most powerful magical races in Faerun (CR6 + character level) and despite being outnumbered, subdued the Phaerimm. The avg Sharn is a CN Sor 9 / Cleric 7.
1 out of 10 Sharn are archmages.

Sharn do not worship any god/dess, and WotC still hasn't explained how they are clerics.
Sharn Elders are described as near-omnipotent (godlike) and departed Faerun for the Outer Planes.
They are not transformed Nethiril Mages, because Sharn easily pre-date the Netherese. (Netherese propaganda)
Very Ancient Race, maybe older then Dragons and creator races.
Mostly look down or ignore all other races.
Their homes are Underdark crystal caverns beneath the High Moor.
Immune to all mind-influences (magic & psionic) and are not fooled by illusions.
Immune to polymorph by self or others. Others cannot polymorph into Sharn form.
Have permanent Fly & Haste spells.
Cannot die of old age or diseases.
Suspected of aiding in the destruction of Imaskari and creating Raurin desert (like Nethril & Anauroch).
Not using Shadow Weave. (Sharn Wall was silver)
Can create up to three small magical portals at a time.
Regenerate 2
Can only be harmed by Spells, Outsiders, and Lawful weapons.
One had a cameo in that dreadful Return of the Archwizards series.
The Sharn's "Ultimate Plans" are still unknown.

Correct, the theory that the are nethersee mages is just presented as one of many theories, and contradicted and disproved by other facts told about them

Thanks guys - especially Critical Hit. You have given me something to work with - as my PCs must go and find one to help save the world! :smirk:

Am I a bad GM? ;)

Sharns, and elder Sharns are a concept that has long held my rapt attention. I have seen different versions of how to make stats for elder Sharns, but my favorite was the simplest, take a sharn, advance it in Abberation hit dice, and give it 35-40 character levels.

wow

that thing would probably tear elminster or telemont to pieces in a fight

"probably"

Elminster has a CR of 45 (I think..) and that thing clocks up at 66.

That fight would only be tipped (imho) if Mystra decided she didn't want one of her Chosen dying.

I will put my vote in for "creator race" right now if you don't mind.

Eventually I will post stats for my idea of the "typical" elder sharn. It will take a while most likely though.

I don't believe there is a "plan" since having a plan would need some orderlike structure and since the Sharn are chaos personified it would go against their nature.

The Sharn's "Ultimate Plans" are still unknown.

Depends

the phaerimm are the same way

but they can work together when they all want to achieve a common goal (ie the seige of evereska)
