| Jaeysonne08-20-06, 06:12 PM | Hello board! The new adventure, Twlight Tomb, is coming out soon. I was just wondering if you all wanted to share your thoughts and feelings about this before it comes out. My DM wants to start a new game going and wants a pre-made adventure. Is anyone looking forward to get this? Any recommendations? Do you think it will be better than Sons of Gruumsh? Or Attack on Myth Drannor? or City of the Spider Queen? |
| Pystian08-24-06, 11:07 PM | According to Mat Smith's Previews for July and Beyond "I'm told that it delves into the culture of star elves more so than anything else we've done." My guess is that how much you like the adventure depends very highly on how much you like Star Elves. Personally, I'm pretty excited about it. I've historically always made my own adventures, and this is the first one I've considered buying since... ever? |
| Jaeysonne08-30-06, 03:59 PM | just as well...i see it doesnt come out until September 12...personally, i am excited about it, but never heard of the Star Elves in Forgotten Realms but judgeing by the lack of enthusiasm in this thread, i can tell you may not be the only one who enjoys creating thier own adventure... we always make our own campaign...but the DM never does his research as to what the culture is in the area, or the political and economic forces are...he barely even does the CR correctly,...and so we are left fighting incredibly tough monsters that should be impossible for low level characters to defeat... so weve decided to instead buy this new adventure and see how it goes...that way, we cant blame the DM for aribtrarily putting us up against something insideously difficult...or rip our treasure off... |
| Teh_username08-30-06, 06:23 PM | I did so like City of the Spider-Queen. Drove the "hay guyz drow are dangerous" point home rather effectively, I think. Never picked up Sons. Twilight Tomb sounds promising, but I'm definitely flipping through it first. |
| MerrikCale08-30-06, 09:39 PM | Not sure about this one. Star Elves have never appealed to me all that much. But I would hope its better than Sons of Gruumsh. I would hope its bigger too. |
| Elvenknight_Cologne08-31-06, 04:44 PM | Bigger not. The book have 32 pages too. I'm, as a big FR elven fan, very happy of the fluff for the platin elves. |
| Jaeysonne09-01-06, 02:17 AM | ...by the way, does anyone know where i can get Sons of Gruumsh on pdf? |
| Khaelieth09-01-06, 05:52 AM | I'm not sure what to think of it, I've had mixed experiences with WotC published adventures, but the old TSR were great. DIE, VECNA, DIE! |
| MerrikCale09-01-06, 01:37 PM | Bigger not. The book have 32 pages too. Oh well, I wish they could have added 10 or so pages of backround info in Gruumsh. Looks like I will have the same prob with this one. |
| Jaeysonne09-05-06, 12:10 AM | theres enough about Gruumsh in the Faiths and Pantheons and in the Complete Divine... and im a little dissappointed that theres not much talk about the Twilight Tomb |
| Shroomy09-12-06, 12:13 AM | I'm not a huge FR fan (owned the original 1987 boxset and some early 2e hardcovers, ran a short 2e campaign in the Western Heartlands), but I do love Greg A. Vaughn's work in Dungeon, so when I saw this for sale at my FLGS, I snapped it up. I'm not very familiar with the Yuirwood or Star Elves, so I have no idea if the adventure is up to snuff in terms of canon (not a big concern for me anyways), but I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Its an interesting setting, features a nice mix of monsters, some of whom are at cross-purposes, from a wide range of supplements (main FR supplements but also MMIII and Libris Mortis), and given that most of it takes place on a demiplane, is easily portable. Has anyone else picked this up yet? |
| KnightErrantJR09-12-06, 10:49 AM | I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I am glad it seems to be a good adventure, but being easily portable does not do much for me in terms of selling it, since I am a FR fan. |
| Shroomy09-12-06, 11:35 AM | I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I am glad it seems to be a good adventure, but being easily portable does not do much for me in terms of selling it, since I am a FR fan. I did take a look at my copy of Unapproachable East last night, and the adventure does use a lot of the background on the Star Elves as presented in that module. I wouldn't say that the Twilight Tomb expands on the lore all that much(though there is some new stuff, at least that was not in what I read out of UE), but it is solidly grounded. My comments regarding portability have more to do with the adventure taking place primarily on a demiplane; I would still have to do work incorporating elements like the star elves and nilshai into another world. |
