So, what do you think will be in the upcoming Underdark sourcebook? What do you wish will be in it? What do you think will be the 'mystery race', censored from the index they posted?

Yes, this is a blatant excuse to get the first post in the new forum. :D

I'm betting on derro for the 'mystery race', by the way.

Edit: Well, looks like Paradox got in the first one. Make this the second, then. The subject still stands, though...

I'm hoping for the derro, with their gods Diirinka and Diinkarazan IIRC... However, since the dwarves already have an underdark version, it wouldn't surprise me if the newest underdark race would come in the form of a halfling... I mean, we already saw the barbaric version of the halfling, the ghostwise hin, and the halflings are now the only race without a deep or dark version...

Imagine sorcerous halflings trying to avoid the drow for as long as possible, all the while avoiding the drow and other evil underdark denizens.

It wouldn't surprise me at all, not since the newest subrace of the elves was 'discovered' (the Star Elves from Yuirwood) :nonono:

I wouldn't object to derro or even illithids, though :D

Index? They posted the index? Where?

Index cheerfully provided by Rich Baker.

Boy, do I hate it when they censor the list. :p

Might be derro, but could also be Desmodus (des-MOH-doos). They're a new race detailed in the Deep Horizon module.

Basically they're a humanoid resembling monstrous bats. About 300 years ago, they were locked in a losing fight to the Drow and decided to play dead. They redirected a magma flow that destroyed the nearest drow city and sealed off their realm. Everyone who even knew about the race assumed they were extinct. But a recent earthquake has "broken the seal" and their existence is becoming known.

But it could also be derro.....:smirk:

Once more it seems that I have to tell everyone how much I dislike the Desmodu :behold: No Desmodu, please!

Anyway, Underdark will probably be all that I expect it to be :D

I'm glad that an Adventure section will be included, as UE cetainly lacks in adventuring material.

The 80 pages of Domain descriptions sounds good too.

As for the race... I'd guess Derro as well, Desmodu stink. Eh... well, what I mean is I don't like how they look at all, heh. I've not enjoyed a single piece of artwork depicting them yet.

New Race, I think will be the Ibrandlin for some Sharran goodness. They have been mentionned in a few books already, so it wouldn't be a stretch to include them.

Yeah, but considering all the races were alphabetized... Derro seems likely... or those bat-people the others were mentioning.

I suppose it is too much for me to hope that a lot of setting material will be added. You know - history, politics, personages (beyond stats - their pasts and motivations). I was rather disappointed when I looked in the Far East book the other day. Most of it was dedicated to game stats and pictures. It felt... padded. There is so much intrigue to be found in the Underdark that I fear a lot may be left out in favor of the latest feats or spells.

You and me both... :)

As the index (thanks, Masakado) shows, the censored race will be alphabetically between chitines and drow. This is why I think it'll be derro. I figure it being desmodu is unlikely, as, well, the buggers have already shown up in Deep Horizon, Monster Manual II, and Savage Species... Nothing new about them, anymore.
Tempus665

Also, Desmodu have had nothing to do with the Forgotten Realms in the past; it would be lame to start including them now.

As for the Ibrandlin, even though they are quite cool, they aren“t a player race.

Perhaps it could be dark creepers/dark stalkers, although I would also be betting on derro.

It's good to see the BoVD "reject" monsters get published too: giant maggot and giant cockroach. These are also available on Monte Cook's website.

Eeh... the Ibrandlin are honkin' big dragons, statted out in Monster Compendium: Monsters of Faerūn. I don't think they'd make very good PCs.

I am hoping for Derros. I would also quite like expanded descriptions on Diirinka, Lolth, Kiaransalee, Eilistraee, Blidpoolpoolp (sp?), Ilsenine (sp?) and those elusive "various Underdark deities" that are mentioned so often in Faiths and Pantheons (yeah, I know they said that there arn't any other gods other than the ones in that book - but hey, I can hope.)

That's truly sad.....I have all three and only noticed them in Deep Horizon.....

Blidpoolpoolp (sp?)

I believe it's Blibdoolpoolp, although not quite sure about that last "L."

Look in the third edition Monster Manual, under the halfling entry.

Deep Halfling... *Shudders* We can only hope its not Deep Halflings.

I really think it will be the Derro. They've been avoided so far in 3rd edition products, aside from the Monster Manual.

Definetly Derro.

Eilistraee wouldn't fit - she's no underdark deity. Vhaeraun would fit better (he still has worshippers in the Night Below)

I think it might be the auvathyrri, the crossbreed of drow and avariel with scraggy bird wings or black insect wings. Their mentioned in Year of the Drow feature under drow pets in the flying spider entry.
