Im planning on running the Dungeon Magazine module "The three faces of Evil" from #125. Its very well made and suited for the group of players I run. However I need to make some tweaks to run it. Can some one offer suggestions on some things.

Theres 3 evil cults that need to be replaced with Forgotten realms deities. They are:

Hextor - Lawful evil group that worships bloody battle
Vecna - Lawful evil group that worships dark and evil magic, very mysterious
Erthynul - Evil group of death worshippers I believe

Now I have two options Im considering to fit in my campaign. Either a triad of cults of "dead" gods trying to work together to regain power. Or group of splinter sects that are unhappy with the main form of worshipping their god. What I need is 3 gods either living or dead to replace Hextor, Vecna and Erthynul with. I don't mind doing some minor tweaks, but I would like to stay mostly accurate. For example for living gods a splinter group of evil Tempus worshippers could replace Hextor, or A cult of Bhaal for a "dead" group to replace Erthynul.

What do you folks suggest? Either the living route or the dead route, and which specific gods. I would like to avoid the egyptian type gods, and the Meztican or Kara-tur ones. Just the main stream sword coast/cormyr/dalelands type ones.

Hextor - Bane
Vecna - Shar
Erythnul - Cyric or Malar

For the record, Hextor is LE, Vecna is NE, and Erythnul is CE. The deities I recommended correspond to those alignments. :)

Well Hextor could be Garagos even though he is CN as you describe the cult to be about bloody battle and Garagos portfoli has War, destruction and plunder. I envision Tempus as a god of more organized warfare.

Vecna would be easy with Velsharoon or Myrkul. Cyric or Shar.

Erythnul now hmm. Velsharoon and Myrkul fit this category as well... Loviatar? not really a death god though. Or Bhaal as you suggest.

Hope that helps!

Paizo has asked me to write conversion notes for each of the Age of Worms adventures, converting them to the Realms.

You can find the notes for Diamond Lake and the Whispering Cairn as part of the Dungeon #125 web enhancement on www.paizo.com. The web enhancement for #126 should be very soon (from what Erik Mona has stated pubicly on the Paizo boards).

Velsharoon as Vecna? I don't get it. Just because they're liches doesn't mean that their portfolios are similar. Vecna is the God of Secrets.. So is Shar.

Bring back Bhaal, Myrkul, and Moander!

I'm not sure how it fits but, those 3 dead gods freakin' rock.

Nothing beats the Dark Triad of Bane, Myrkul, and Bhaal! Please bring them back and kill of Cyric. For that matter bring back Leira, she was pretty cool too.

Hextor - Lawful evil group that worships bloody battle
Bane sounds pretty good for this. Bloody battle may not be quite his primary purpose, but subtlety most certainly isn't amongst his virtues or those of most of his followers.

Vecna - Lawful evil group that worships dark and evil magic, very mysterious
Shar is the way to go here. Goddess of Darkness, Secrets, and the controller of the Shadow Weave - practically a perfect match.

Erthynul - Evil group of death worshippers I believe
*flips through his PHB* I thought that sounded wrong. Erythnul is the God of Slaughter, not death. For him, Talos could work nicely. God of Destruction in pretty much all its forms, same alignment as Erythnul and everything. Perhaps Malar if you've got some Lycanthropes, evil Druids/Rangers, or beasts in the cult.

Yeah, with the untimely death of Bhaal, the best bet would most certianly be Bane, Shar, and Malar.

Dan's right...Look in Frcs they have the conversions in there...i think just before the deity section or..in the beggining (been a long time since i checked)

*bows* ;)

Erythnul was truly the hardest one. Slaughter implies a form of death. If Bhaal was CE, I'd say him. However, since Cyric is the Lord of Murder, that makes him the most viable candidate I think. Since I dislike him, I'd make it Malar, as he's the deity of the bloodlust, the hunt, ravaging beasts (ravage and slaughter are similar). Talos, I think, is far too 'energy-based' (weather, fire, storms, etc.) to truly be a good match for Erythnul.

So, Cyric. Unless you don't like him, and in that case, Malar.

So, my take is that the conversions should go as follows:

Hextor - Bane
Erythnul - Bhaal
Vecna - Myrkul

In other words, the Ebon Triad seeks to resurrect the Dead Three at the secret instigation of a fourth god.

Oohh. That makes sense if it deals specifically with the Dark Triad, rather than sticking to alignments/portfolios.

Woot.

Yeah, I had a hard time with the other gods. In GH, the evil gods are some pretty big and important guys. The FR conversion will turn a few minor, evil gods into some Overgod. I like the idea of it being some larger gods being turned into the Overgod.

So, in my game it wouldn't be a big issue as I never use the ToT.

If you use the ToT, it is almost cooler the Ebon Triad are trying to bring the Dead Three back and fuse them into one Overgod. Of course, I would use Garguath as the sneaky guy in this one. Or, you could pull Kysuss out and say he is some "lost" god of Nethril or eve Narfelli times. Maybe he is one of the "Lost Seven".

Hextor, Vecna and Erythnul? Hey, it's the Dead Three! Skull bowling and knuckle bones for all!!!
