Ticked Off No more FR Novels Boards [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-23-04, 09:02 PM It seems the Forgotten Realms Novels Board is to come down for good.

An Extract from Mary Kirchoff (Vice President of X Division)

"The decision to close WotC's book message boards rests solely with me and has been in the planning for some time. "

"I understand that it's far more interesting to speculate about corporate conspiracies, but there really isn't one here. I'd be less than honest if I didn't admit that the final decision was made easier in light of the volume of extremely negative and insensitive chatter last fall that distracted authors, and the Publishing and Web team staffs alike. "

A couple of points I would like to make on this

a. To my knowledge there was no prior warning at any time or on any issue. No conspiracy - just an ambush.
b. Most participants do/did not participate in negative or insensitive chatter.
c. The one post on that (any) forum by me that was in any way negative was directed at those few who brought the forum into disrepute... and funnily enough I was the one reprimanded.
d. To those who participated in the "cause and effect"

01-23-04, 09:22 PM I liked the Novel Forum, a lot! To be able to discuss your Favorite book or character with others was one of the best parts of the FR boards.

To think that it got shut down because of the negative comments about authors or characters is a little silly. I know some of the posts went over the line, but then that is when you delete them and revoke the posters sign on rights. If authors are that sensitive to boorish comments that it actually disrupts their work, then maybe they should stay away from the boards in the first place.

I've been here for a few months, and i've not seen "extremely negative and insensitive chatter last fall that distracted authors". If I remember correctly, most authors rather enjoyed being in contact with their readers.

This does not reflect on the posts within this thread, it is a decision made to help people find all the relevant information and to prevent chaos.

Please bear in mind this decision was not made by the moderators of Wizards forums but we do have to enforce the decision.
