09-17-05, 01:53 PM I've been tryign to find some history in Faerun about the Time of Dragons..I havn't really seen anything in any of the books I own about it.. Only thing i've seen is a slight mention about the elves civilizaion beginning and marking hte end of the time of dragon's..is there a history written of this someplace

09-18-05, 01:50 PM I believe that there is a little more information about this in the 2nd Ed. Draconomicon and 2nd Ed. Giantcraft source books. Both of these books talk about it a little, however, there isn't much "hard" history. You can just assume that it was a time when dragons were more active, had more numbers, and were worshiped by huminoids more often.

09-18-05, 05:44 PM The first dragons fell from the sky in eggs around -31,000 DR, give or take a few hundred years. This is documented in the sourcebook Giantcraft.

It took them a few hundred years to grow from the little lizards they appeared as when first hatched, into clans of powerful wyrms that could devour the avian creator race--the Aeearee--from out of the sky, to assert dominion over Faerūn for 6,000 years from roughly -30,000 DR to -24,000 DR.

I have a theory as to how the dragons came to Faerūn. It is elaborated on in the last section of my article in Candlekeep Compendium Volume 3 (http://www.candlekeep.com/compendium/Candlekeep_Compendium-Volume_III.zip).

I theorize the amphibious Batrachi creator race was living in the wetlands and along the river areas surrounding the inner seas of Faerūn (not yet the Sea of Fallen Stars). A race of titans, the newly arisen children of the giant god Annam and the Faerūnian demi-goddess Othea, came to settle in this region and founded the Titan Kingdom of Lanaxis.

The titans came into conflict with the Batrachi over territory and a great war errupted between them. The sides were fairly evenly matched. The Batrachi in a bid to destroy the Titans summoned a draconic proto-deity from beyond the cosmos to aid them. They brought in an avatar or interloper aspect of Io, who is known as Asgorath in the Realms. He agreed to help the Batrachi in exchange for granting his children purchase within the Realms.

The bargain struck, Asgorath flew into the sky and pulled down a comet, or perhaps one or more of the tears of Selūne, and hurled it at the Kingdom of Lanaxis, raining down fiery death from the stars. The meteor impact utterly obliterated the titan kingdom and rent a scar in the One Land so deep that it merged the four or so inland seas into a single Sea of Fallen Stars.

The Batrachi themselves were wiped out by their own hubris. Although some of their degenerate descendants persist to this day as Bullywugs and Sivs and a few other races in the marshy regions of the Realms.

In the wake of the meteor shower that wiped out the Titans and the Batrachi, there hailed a storm of dragon eggs from the sky, the seed of Asgorath.

Ancient giant lore mentions how the surviving giant races were amused by the innocuous lizards that hatched from those eggs. But the dragons would later rival the giants for dominion of Faerūn. The giants fought debilitating wars with the dragons for centuries, and would not truly thrive as a race until the giants forged a peace with the Wyrms, sometime around -28,000 DR. After which the Dragons and the Giants coexisted in a grudging detente until the First Flowering of the elves and other demi-humans that ended the Reign of Dragons (and Giants) circa -24,000 DR.
