The more time I dump into my settings the more they diverge from FR (and often D20). I don't seem anywhere close to running out of ideas and so I was wondering if I should just stop following FR altogether and purge my setting of it's influence? What would you do?

Whichever gave me the most sense of fulfillment in the end! :)

If you're mid-campaign keep the setting, and house-rule anything you want I guess. There's always gonna be stuff that won't work for someone, so ditch what you don't like.

...or have your PC's go through a portal and end up in Call of Cthulhu or Shadowrun - it's do-able.

I guess it would depend on if there are parts of FR that you've kept and enjoy in your campaign. If so, keep them. If not, dump them.

There is no overriding reason why your version of the Realms should look anything like the "canon" version or any other DM's version of the Realms.

If you (and your players) are happy with the version of the Realms that your currently using - why change?

And, even if you add more non-Realms material to your current campaign, unless it conflicts or invalidates the Realms material you've previously used, there isn't a real problem.

Well, it don't sounds like canon Forgotten Realms - it's more an homebrew inspired by it.

Whatever float your boat.

You could blend elements from your homebrew into FR or vice versa.

Ditto. Its your campaign. If you wanted to eradicate all Magic, kill all the gods and create a Celtic pantheon, and turn Eliminster into the fairy godmother, who cares. Your the DM, man.

I alternate between my homebrew (dark fantasy with constant rain) and FR (high-powered panoramic action), depending on my ideas and whatever material I have at hand, and try emphasis differences rather than blending the styles. It works very well for me.

I am starting my own world and it was inspired by The Forgotten Realms also, but as I go on into its own history and people things jest drifted its own way. The game is what it is so do what you will everything you, I and whoever else fells is fun. :cheer: . I love this game after all its how I meet my Wife at the game table:w00t:  :cloud9:. Long live all those who came before us with their own visions of the Multi verse and gave flesh to our dreams and inspired heroes to greatness. :mage: :fight!: :dragon:

My world is inspired by me not the forgotten realms there are no Drow, Orcs aren't canon fodder and it's impossible to slay my dragons. /touchy statement

and it's impossible to slay my dragons

where's the fun in that dragon slaying should be possiable and give PCs an immense sense of achomplishment.

mind you it shoul;dn't be easy for just that reason. and dragon slaying should be seen as a truely heroic achomplishment but it should be doable.

Weiser, if your world is inspired NOT by FR, it seems like already are not playing an FR game at all. I'm confused as to your conflict.

No drow? :P

Orcs not canon fodders? :P

Unkillable dragons? :P

Is that Exalted? :P

(Jest mode)

Seriously, it's not FR. Or common D&D.

Wow, so you have unkillable Dragons , no drow, Orcs are not fodder OK so what do you have? A City full of Arch-Mage goblins that worship Dragon High lords I take it you played in the Realms and all I tried to say was no matter how hard you try everything comes from somewhere.

I think you should try your best to have fun and use what ever products you like the most to influence your setting.
