| JaiaDrottsingr05-13-07, 01:57 PM | We were discussing last session if the Time of Troubles had any nonpublicity use. I tend to stay away from antimagic fields in my campaign stories, but those're the only uses, right? I'm guessing no, but it's worth having a conversation about, especially with the younger more knowledgable posters out there. |

I'm guessing no, but it's worth having a conversation about, especially with the younger more knowledgable posters out there. Nonpublicy reasons? hello, the rivalry between maskarrans and cyrilosers besides that I really cant think of anything |
| Bolithio05-13-07, 02:51 PM | We were discussing last session if the Time of Troubles had any nonpublicity use. What exactly does that mean, non-publicity? |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-13-07, 03:16 PM | I've already given an example of one, antimagic fields. |
| Dielzen05-13-07, 05:16 PM | I'm not sure how publicity falls into this picture....people advertise DMZs (ToT created Dead Magic Zones, not Anti-Magic Fields, iirc) as draws to their city? *confused* |
| lightcwu05-13-07, 06:03 PM | TOT Killed off a couple of deities raised a couple others, created the dead magic zones, we saw the strife of the shadow weave come about, what exactly are you looking for? |
| Lady_Mhaor05-13-07, 06:10 PM | I think he wants important things the ToT gave the realms that weren't used for a more . .er "mainstream" use Its just hard to tell cuz of the snippyness (I think he worships cyric) |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-13-07, 09:11 PM | Elistraee, actually. I meant by publicity the fact that FR was "boldy going where any RPG never went before!" |
| GothicDan05-13-07, 11:09 PM | The Shadow Weave didn't come about with the ToT. In fact, it wasn't even mentioned until near the very end of 2E. |
| The Ubbergeek05-13-07, 11:33 PM | Elistraee, actually. I meant by publicity the fact that FR was "boldy going where any RPG never went before!" Eilistraee is there since a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. And man, no offence, but you are/were hard to follow a bit... |
| MarkusTay6305-14-07, 12:02 AM | Coherence is a virtue. ;) The Shadow Weave didn't come about with the ToT. In fact, it wasn't even mentioned until near the very end of 2E. *I think the 'Shadow Weave' actually started out as a new hair style in Waterdeep. Long, Inky-black hair became all the rage for awhile, and noblewomen flocked to 'Ye Olde Beautification Parlors' for hair extensions. Shar, looking down and seeing this, thought that the mortals were doing it in honor of her. However, some had attained greater lengths then she herself, so she decided that her own lustrous tresses should be even longer and finer then any in the universe. She tore away a piece of the Plane of Shadow, and attached it to her scalp like some sort of 'cosmic wig'. At first, everything was going great, but then the 'Weave' began to get a life of its own. The final straw occurred when she woke up in the middle of the night, only to find her own hair playing strip-poker with Loviatar, Bane, and Mask. She ripped the offending locks from her head and cast them into the Abyss; but it was too late... it had become sentient and taken on a life of its own (much like Spiderman's costume). And so, the Shadow Weave was BORN!!! ♪ <DUN DUN DUHHHHHHH> ♫ *All of the following is just figment of the imagination of a VERY disturbed mind |
| Dielzen05-14-07, 01:06 AM | Eilistraee is there since a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time. And man, no offence, but you are/were hard to follow a bit... That was two different sentences. He wasn't saying Eili was a product of ToT :) As to the OP...If I understand you correctly, you mean pulicity on the part of TSR to encourage people to play it? If so, the main draw in my mind would be that 3 mortals became gods. Cause really, what is the ultimate level, Divine Rank. |
| Old Sage05-14-07, 01:23 AM | The Shadow Weave didn't come about with the ToT. In fact, it wasn't even mentioned until near the very end of 2E.Indeed. The Shadow Weave actually was "created" at the end of 2e because Rich's The Shadow Stone novel was written in 2e. It was originally a novel for the BIRTHRIGHT setting that eventually got tacked into FR. The FRCS merely 'canonised' the concept of the Shadow Weave... a concept that was already at play in The Shadow Stone novel. Its inclusion in 3e... merely gave it a more solid grounding in the Realmslore. |
| MarkusTay6305-14-07, 03:05 AM | Poor Realms... It seems to get stuck with quite a few 'orphans'. The Blodstone Lands, the Moonshaes, etc... |
| Lady_Mhaor05-14-07, 06:52 AM | The Tot also gave us some other things they just cant be shared at this moment you know how these spoiler things go, very hush hush material *all of this was just made up by me* |
| DaelricHearthsinger05-14-07, 10:00 AM | Support the Realms ophans! They have no homes, lost parents through war and strife..so many from Zhentil Keep alone thanks to Cyric. For mere coppers a day you can provide food and shelter to these children, give them something to look forward to! So please support the Realms orphans. Wait a tic. I completely missed the point didn't I? ;) |
| The Ubbergeek05-14-07, 11:49 AM | Poor Realms... It seems to get stuck with quite a few 'orphans'. The Blodstone Lands, the Moonshaes, etc... Somes of those orphans are what make the realms great. ;) |
| GothicDan05-14-07, 01:38 PM | But the vast majority aren't. The only one I really don't mind is the Moonshaes. |
| The Ubbergeek05-14-07, 02:21 PM | But the vast majority aren't. The only one I really don't mind is the Moonshaes. That is your opinion, and you sadly seems to think only Ed stuff is worthy. Where I always though the realms dont belong/came just from him, but to EVERYONE who contribuated. The realms is more rich that way; and I really, really don't want that FR suffers from what killed GH at the end. |
| GothicDan05-14-07, 02:32 PM | If you have to sell yourself out to stay alive, then as far as I'm concerned, your life isn't worth living, and you should die with some dignity. Just like I'm fully happy with the fact that WotC doesn't support Planescape any more. They wouldn't have done it right, so I would not want them to do it at all. And they don't. So, I'm happy. And I know I'm stating my opinion. Where did I ever tell anyone else to follow my opinion? |
| Old Sage05-14-07, 08:13 PM | That is your opinion, and you sadly seems to think only Ed stuff is worthy. Not only Ed... but also those other original contributors to Ed's Realms -- such as Jeff Grubb, Karen S Martin, etc. And why is that sad? Just like I'm fully happy with the fact that WotC doesn't support Planescape any more. They wouldn't have done it right, so I would not want them to do it at all. And they don't. So, I'm happy.I'll second that. While it's been nice having the odd PS tidbit dropped into the generic 3e D&D books, I just don't think an official 3e update for the setting would capture most of what made the 2e PS setting, so special in the eyes of many planar fans. |
| GothicDan05-14-07, 11:02 PM | Old Sage, if you weren't taken and straight, I'd marry you. ;) |
| Dark Wizard05-14-07, 11:32 PM | The realms is more rich that way; and I really, really don't want that FR suffers from what killed GH at the end. Some would have you believe it was the Realms that killed Greyhawk. So all the Realms has to fear is itself. ;) Not that I think the Realms really had much to do with it. Dragonlance was just as if not more popular with novels and supplements, especially novels. So any other setting could have done Greyhawk in. Other settings were not the key to Greyhawk's demise, so that leaves two other things... |
| Old Sage05-15-07, 01:16 AM | Old Sage, if you weren't taken and straight, I'd marry you. ;) Ooooh! Now you're making me blush... :embarrass :D |
| Lord Karsus05-17-07, 09:31 AM | -As 1/3 Arcanist Extraordinaire, I can perform marriages (I think). |
| Old Sage05-17-07, 09:46 AM | Good enough. I'm sure GD and I will both be keeping your name on file LK -- under "Arcanist Celebrants." :P |
| BrennonGoldeye05-17-07, 09:49 AM | I've got a few cleric levels. Feed me after the ceremony and I'll do it for free.:tiphat: |
| Old Sage05-17-07, 10:38 AM | Hmmm... Feeding Bren... Why is it that I feel a shiver down my spine just thinking about that? :P :D ;) |
| Lord Karsus05-17-07, 10:41 AM | -Hey, if you're needing a cook, KtM makes a mean burrito. And, when I say mean, I mean it. Mean, as in it literally has a bad attitude mean. Mean, as in it verbally assaults the young and the elderly. Mean, as in it might make Bane blush. |
| BrennonGoldeye05-17-07, 10:42 AM | Don't worry about that shiver thing. Side effect of my mantle.:mage: |
| GothicDan05-17-07, 10:21 PM | I think I'd want a Cleric of Hanali there, though. |
| Old Sage05-17-07, 10:29 PM | Without a doubt. And I'd probably want a cleric of Labelas Enoreth as well. |
| GothicDan05-17-07, 11:04 PM | Of course! For a fulfilling partnership with much longevity! Hanali has the passionate side. Seriously, though... Marriage? Not much for me, I think. |
| Old Sage05-17-07, 11:29 PM | I used to think like that... ... ... Oh, what's that my love? Yes, I'm just finishing up now. Yep. This married life's great! ;) |
| GothicDan05-18-07, 01:21 AM | Hee. Poor Sage... |
| JaiaDrottsingr05-18-07, 07:50 PM | *Runs from the gay masses and tries to mingle with the lesbian horde before getting kicked into gay masses and ending up running far, far away, fleeing for dear sanity. And salinity.* |
| GothicDan05-18-07, 07:53 PM | You're safe, Jaia. You're not nearly sexy enough for us gays to chase you... We're very vain, you know! |
| Lord Karsus05-18-07, 11:26 PM | -I for one think that that calls for a 'Zing'. That was pretty funny. |
| GothicDan05-18-07, 11:45 PM | Thank you very much! |
| Steelwind05-19-07, 02:59 AM | You guys are crazy. Regarding the ToT, regarding a recent discussion of mine, did Helms clerics keep there full powers during the Avatar Crisis? If so just think of the inflation in healing prices throughout the realms, kinda reminds me of a current day resource inflation (thats right oil companies, Im looking at you :nonono: ) |
| Lord Karsus05-19-07, 09:53 AM | Regarding the ToT, regarding a recent discussion of mine, did Helms clerics keep there full powers during the Avatar Crisis? -I'm pretty sure, being as that Helm was still a deity and all. |
| Steelwind05-19-07, 12:10 PM | Party talking to there cleric in 1358 DR. So I know you've been with us for 15 levels now and Lathanders been good to us and all, but you kinda suck right now so were going with the Helmite over there. Bu..but how can you say that after all we've been through. Dont worry, buddy, Im sure our paths will cross again.....oh and dont sending us, we'll sending you. |

| BrennonGoldeye05-21-07, 09:31 PM | Ouch. Paid to have a sword arm it did.;) |
