| Puppyman10-12-05, 08:49 AM | Looking for some help from someone who has played this game. I'm stuck in Fireshear with only one exit out of the town, I have been working on this for 5 days now and can't get past the beholder on the docks after coming out of the mine tunnels. This is a two part battle, the 1st wave is with yetis and ice hounds, 2nd wave is the same but with the beholder. I have no problems with the yetis and ice hounds and have plenty of hit points. But in 2-3 rounds when up against the beholder my party is either dead or has fled the battle area. Magic spells won't touch it and once in a great while I see it has taken a little damage. The beholder has HP: 75 AC: -4 I will be trying a new idea I thought of last night. I'll head to the store and buy some magical arrows and bows, this might work. My party has AC -10 all around. 2 - fighters 2 - clerics 1 - f/mu 1 - mu Any suggestions would be helpful. Thx! Paul |
| Kuje3110-12-05, 12:17 PM | I haven't played that puter game in years..... hmmm are there any game faq's on the net about it? Maybe try gamefaqs.com? |
| Puppyman10-12-05, 05:02 PM | I checked the Gamefaqs site, no help there! The only help they had was pressing the ALT + X at the beginning of the battle which should have skipped the battle and still give all the rewards. It didn't work for me. It may work on another platform. And my idea with the bows and arrows didn't work either. What I did find ( BY ACCIDENT ) was there is a difficulty function in the game that you can get to by : Encamp - Alter - Level. I dropped it to Novice and I still had to try 5-6 times to get thru the encounter. I still lost 2 characters, but I had a backup plan!!! I had removed my party from the game, copied them to another dir, reloaded the party and finished the battle. Yeah! Its cheating!!!! But after 6 days of this, I was trying anything. After removing the two dead players I copyied over them and added them back in to the game. No exp or other gains, but it was worth it. I changed the level but to where it was. I have had this game for over 10 years and I have not reach the end. Now the end is in sight. |
| Dynneroth10-13-05, 04:20 PM | In one of the Gold Box games (I think it was Curse of the Azure Bonds) was the Mulmaster Beholder Corps. The easiest (and possibly only) way to beat them was with dust of disappearance. I don't know if you have access to any, but if you have any access to improved invisibility it might be worth a try. *Added* The Adrenaline Vault had this on it: FIRESHEAR MISSION The mine entrances at either (5,12) or (3,14) are the closest ones to where the townspeople are held. Go due north from the archway, then due west to get to the docks. No coordinates are possible in the mines. There are optional encounters in the rest of Fireshear which can be ignored. So it sounds like what you're trying to do is optional. I'm a "finish every side quest" purist as well, but if a mission is impossible you might want to consider running away. |
| Puppyman10-13-05, 06:43 PM | The one thing I've noticed ON ALL the sites with most games is, that all the walkthrus, clues and cheats are all the same!! Nowhere has the poster added any personal comments on how they managed to get thru a certain difficult area or battle. I seriously beleive that most of them have not played the game they reported on. They just copied and pasted a guide they found from another site so that they could feel important. The walkthru on this game is very helpful, as an example: to get to a certain town ( mission ) the player may have to go thru 1-3 towns to get to that area. Find some NPC and/or take a boat/ship to an island in order to get to the town. Some Sites do have a map that someone has taken time to work out and place it on a site, Thats Great! Some of the maps I have/had were in bad shape, they were unusable. I have a set of the gold box including all 4 from the Pool Of Radiance and the Saveage Frontier set, along with a handful of others in that area. Another series I like was the Krynn series of games, maybe some day I will come across that series. |
| Puppyman10-13-05, 06:49 PM | On a side note: How many of you played any of the ZORK Series? I have the whole set. |
| Dynneroth10-13-05, 09:35 PM | I still have my hand-drawn maps from the Pool of Radiance series. Maybe I will scan and post them somewhere. I played both Gateway and Treasures but never finished either. I don't think I got quite as attached to them as I did PoR. I also still have my hand-drawn maps from the first three Wizardrys. I played Zork but never finished it. I have the collection Treasures of Infocom or something like that. I occasionally like to reminisce and load a game up and play it for a few weeks. I may have to do that with my Bard's Tales soon. |
| warlockco10-14-05, 12:08 AM | Too bad the old Gold Box games won't play on current PCs :( Even Master of Orion II won't work :( |
| Puppyman10-14-05, 12:53 AM | The Maps for Pool of Radiance and some other Gold box games can be found At: WWW.The-spoiler.com site. I have Wolf3d and its playable, sounds doesn't work right I think on anything higher then a 486. I had Rise of the Triad but I can't get it to work on this machine, so I tossed it out. A great game! Check Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/8fwat As for the games in the gold box series, they play fine on my machine, even with the game speed set to its slowest, game play is very fast. |
| Dynneroth10-14-05, 11:31 AM | Too bad the old Gold Box games won't play on current PCs :( Even Master of Orion II won't work :( I'll quit playing computer games if I can't have my MOO2. No, that's a lie. But I will be very unhappy. I haven't tried playing Gold Box games since I got my latest computer. Maybe I should work my way through a little 2E AD&D tomfoolery. Speaking of the Gold Box games, whatever happened to swanmays? I know they weren't portrayed correctly in Secret of the Silver Blades, but are they completely missing from 3E? By the way, if you want some serious buttkickers in the Gold Box games, play a couple of rangers through Secret of the Silver Blades and then turn them into mages in Pools of Darkness. |

| WizO_Lyoness10-14-05, 12:12 PM | Is this related to FR? |
| Kuje3110-14-05, 12:24 PM | Is this related to FR? The games are since they are old SSI games set in FR. :) |
| ericlboyd10-14-05, 12:25 PM | Most of the games discussed prior to this post are very old Forgotten Realms computer games. Zork is not. --Eric |
| Dynneroth10-14-05, 12:38 PM | Is this related to FR? WizO_Lyoness, I apologize for meandering in my thoughts and writings. I will try to stay on FR topics. Kuje, Once again, thanks for the low-down on the swanmays. And who'd 'a thunk that they'd be in BoED? That's weird. |
| Puppyman10-14-05, 01:28 PM | Sorry about the off topic Zork question! Just wondered who had played it and still has it. I dug around in a box of games I had in the closet and came across the FR Interactive Atlas CD. I forgot I had it! It wasn't long after I bought it that this site discountinued it. I see they have some updates/patches that I will be downloading shortly. I think this will be a great loss to all who play in FR world! Thoughts and comments on this will be welcomed. |
| WizO_Lyoness10-14-05, 03:42 PM | Ok, just gotta make sure you all stay focused. Happy game discussion ;) |
