What kind of adventures could occur from a device that could make gods fall in love with each other? Even ones that hate each other as much as Mystra and Cyric? How would the gods react? The mortals? The Outsiders? Just a little Campaign idea. |
| sanishiver07-07-03, 06:38 PM | Sune could use it to take all the Gods under her wing and gather their combined might for a single LuV smite against Ao himself! :smirk: Seriously, it'd probably result in a crisis of Faith for countless followers as they recieve contradictory visions. I mean, can you imagine the befuddled look on Tempus' followers when they wake from a dream where their god has instructed them to, "Make love, not war."? Tee hee! |
| Agent 2307-07-03, 06:52 PM | Hasn’t that already happened? I mean hasn’t Lathander already fallen in love… with himself? As for the ultimate love magic item I’m guessing it was just a simple non-magical mirror that’s to blame… the doofy, egomaniacal freak! | HVulpes07-07-03, 07:08 PM | I was thinking of something like Cupid's Arrows or an Omega Love potion. And how this would effect the realms.... |
| Agent 2307-07-03, 09:09 PM | Well if anybody has these types of items (or makes, or uses, or can find them) I would bet it would be members of the church of Sune or perhaps even Sharess. It would be a cool plot idea to have some of these type of items (cupid’s arrows, love potion #9’s, Spainish {Sembian?} fly) fall into the wrong hands. What better way to eliminate a public official, celebrity, or anybody else (without the mess of assassination) than by causing scandal with the aforementioned magic items. Look at what happened in Romeo and Juliet, two houses of noble families brought down by the politics of love. Now imagine being a third party that has everything to gain by manufacturing the love between Romeo and Juliet and the result of both rival houses tearing themselves down in a bloody and chaotic street war. Just like how the church of Gond monitors the misuse of smokepowder, or how Halruaans protect the secret technology of their flying airships, the church of Sune/Sharess would most likely attempt to police the use of these powerful magic items and if misused then to act to undo or smooth over any hairy situations that might arise before they turn into tragedies like The Bard’s play mentioned above. Personally, I try not to mess with the greater powers of the gods and stick to more interesting, mortal intrigues. The gods have enough ongoing conflicts without becoming even more of a soap opera. Besides, if any of the gods fell in love by artificial means it would still be under the purview of Sune and probably within her power to fix. So anyone who thought this might do much lasting damage to the powers-that-be would find his or her Machiavellian schemes to be only in the short term. Whereas the effect it has on mortals is fairly permanent when things turn fatal. Unless, that is, you look at the disaster of the Dawn Cataclysm, the rifts and the resulting enmity between Lathander and Helm that were caused over the death of Murdane. Or at the expulsion of the Drow powers from Arvandor. Okay… so those ARE pretty epic… I just try to steer clear of more “Realms shaking” events… we get enough of those as it is. | Sarelle07-08-03, 04:39 PM | Awww, just imagine... Tempus blowing kisses at Eldath, who is sitting on his knee; Corellon and Lolth getting jiggy with it, again (actually let's NOT think about THAT one); Shar and Mystra getting funky in the sheets that are the Weave and Shadow Weave; Loviatar giving Lathander love letters. |
