One of my PC's would like to know if it's possible to take on two undead templates. Specifically, Lich and Vampire. I've never heard or seen anything on this matter and would like to get some input from all of you.

Thanks.

I would say *roll dice*.. No.

But I'm sure there are lots of other opinions out there. If someone is a vampire, then becomes a lich, it might work.

But some dm's say that the one drinking the Lich potion can not be undead.

Then some might say that he can.

Some might say, that as a vampire, he has no soul to put away. Then some say he might.

But one thing is for sure, you can't be a lich, then a vampire..

yea.. that’s for sure..

*wait for someone to tell me off, and say that his Lich became a vampire to gain more power, and it was real easy*

Make a knowledge check: Undead Rules.

*rolls a natural 1*

Looks like you don't know.:D Though I would say that you can only have one undead template.

Thanks. use the following list, it will be always usefulll;

if a pc of you wants you to make something uncommon, rare, unique, roll a %;
%0-50 he can't
%50-60 he dies
%60-70 he loses 5 temporary levels
%70-75 hr loses contemporary 5 levels
%75-85 he goes to nine hells
%85-99 he goes to city of judgement
%100 accept his offer and cry

Well, according to the SRD, “Lich” is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature),
Is a Vampire Humaniod?
Then I guess yes, one could turn from a vampire to lich, though I, as a DM, would not allow that.

“Vampire” is an acquired template that can be added to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid creature (referred to hereafter as the base creature).
Hmmm... same here.

So, just find out whether Lich is humanoid (it is).
Again, while perhaps possible, I wuoldn't allow it.

If he wants to be a Vampiric Lich, then NO.

Thanks for the info guys, though I'm still not quite sure on the answer... :)

One of the things that I was thinking about doing with this was going with the Savage Progression that wizards set up a couple of weeks ago, therefore, not allowing this PC to become to overpowered for my campaign and keep him on par with the rest of the group. I know that eventually he'll get to point where he will be very powerful *IF* I allow him to do this.

Thanks for the input.

lich is not a humanoid, it is undead.
Vampire is not a humanoid, it is undead
so following Savras' logic NO would have to be my answer either way round.

and unless you are playing Epic i would never recommend two high ECL templates anyway, the disadvantages are just too punitive(mostly lack of HP)

ok.. how about this.. A vampire bit him, while he was drinking the potion to become a lich. He then became..

TA-DA

Munching Man
He is The Half-Lich/Half-Vampire
But he is All Undead

(whomever thinks this is a good idea can make up his stats.. I think its a horrible idea, so I won't do it)

MAy be if your guy decided to be a vampyre to start... then after you hit epic spellcasting classes it might be possible.... use of the death/ negative energy seed with a DC around 45-50ish... you know, just has to find the right way to combine spells so if he experiments enough eventually he will find a way... just have t find it would be my answer... up to you as the DM
