Undercommon and Drow Dialect [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-13-06, 09:41 PM Does anyone know of any 'real', or I suppose, 'canon' Drow (dialect) and Undercommon dictionaries? I'm looking for one that's either supported by WoTC (as in, it is an actual Faerunian language dictionary), if possible.

I know they must or al east should exist because I've heard of books and translators and such with some English (Common) to Undercommon/Drow Dialect features, kind of like what they have in the Draconomicon (words such as Drow dialect "mistress" to "jabress" or "slave" to "rothe", as the Draconomicon would have it in English/Common to Draconic).

I would prefer a Drow dictionary, but either/or works. Thanks in advance!

01-14-06, 04:19 AM On a sidenote ... Drow is an elven dialect, Undercommon is a seperate language made up of many Underdark languages.

Drow and Dwarven are the only FR languages which got some short glossaries in sourcebooks, in The Drow of the Underdark and Dwarves Deep respectively.

01-14-06, 03:27 PM While the current D&D rules and (I dare say) some scholars classify the Drow language (that is, Deep Drow) as an Elven dialect, it has almost no vocabulary in common, and is considered a separate language in pre-3E sources, including FOR2 The Drow of the Underdark (http://paizo.com/store/brand/forgottenRealms/roleplayingGames/2ndEdition/v5748btpy7mjo) which, as Zanan says, has a Drow wordlist -- which is the basis for the fan-compiled, non-Realmslore Grey Company dictionary.
