An Unforgotten Character?
I flatter myself that I am one of the unforgettable characters of these fair realms, so I trust that one of you fair ladies and gentlemen will remember my name. A custom avatar awaits the first person to do so.

How this competition works
* Several clues to the identity of this person will be posted on this thread. In order to make it fair for all members they will be posted at different times, rather than at the same time every day. To start with these clues will be deliberately obscure, but they will get easier.

* The thread will be locked between clues. We don’t want people posting making guesses or discussing clues, even on other threads, as it will spoil the game.

* If you think you know the answer then send me an email here (bigsister@wizardsmoderator.com), including your WIZARDS.COMmunity member name. You can only send one email – your first guess will be your only guess. If you don’t give us a valid membership name that matches the email address then your reply will be disqualified.

* The first correct email sent will be the winner.

* On the evening of the 7th we will post the solution:- the name of the character and an explanation of all the clues. We will also let you know the winner and the runners up.

The First Clue
One of my oldest friends has a great deal in common with the great Marcan.

Second clue
The colour of my eyes may make you think I am a little peaky.

Third clue
I used to have a very comfortable home, but the roster of my domestic staff was a little short.

Though sometimes everything in my garden can be rosy, sometimes it is a little blue. Ring any bells?

My family did not apprive of my lady fair, and made several ... shall we say ... pointed remarks about her.

Though my travels usually end up getting me into deep water, I am a gentleman of some note.

I don’t want to harp on for too long, but shouldn’t you have guessed my name by now?

The Solution
I am, of course, none other than Danilo Thann. These are the explanations of each and every clue.

1/. The great Marcan is an anagram Regnet Amacathra, my friend from childhood, and my colleague in many a romp.

2/. My eyes are grey, like the high spires of the Greypeak Mountains.

3/. In my cosy townhouse my “gentleman’s gentleman” was a halfling. In fact this factotum did such an excellent job halfling servants were quite the rage.

4/. This townhouse had an elven garden, featuring rare blue roses and bell flowers, especially made for my beloved lady.

5/. My mother strongly disapproved of my love for a half elf.

6/. Waterdeep was where I was born, and until recently it was my home. I dabble in the musical arts, and have taken a hand in reinstating the bard colleges. Thus not only am I a gentleman of note, I am a gentleman of the musical note.

7/. For years I was a Harper, and I do have a regrettable tendency to harp on about my favourite topics.

5/. I have golden hair, and I rather like to think I have a golden tongue; and of course my true love is Arylin Moonblade.

An Apology
Due to technical problems currently I cannot access my WizO email. I can tell you that we do have a winner, but until this is sorted I have to confess I can't tell you who it is :(

Feedback
The thread will stay open now, as we would like feedback about this competition. Did you enjoy the format? Was the cryptic nature of the clues fun? We would like to know all this and more ... but please be gentle, as it was our first time ;)

I got it correct too. Now, just have to see if I got it first and if my email can be accessed.

I did enjoy it and would like to see something like it again.

Well I was wrong. :(

Oh well.

One thought for any possible future competitions like this is to state a GMT time for the closure of the competition.
Being from Australia, and having the boards time shown as local time, some of the clues where seen as being posted on the 9th whereas the comp was sposed to close on the 7th.
Minor details I know, but it would be of a great help in the future if we knew how much time we had to get our head in order.

But all in all, I think it was a great idea, and had fun even though I came up with an erroneous answer. ;)

I say this should be a regular attraction. With or without prizes.
All those in favour say "Aye".

Aye! There that's one already

Holy me!

If I were to give that kind of a riddle to my PCs, they'd lynch me whike whining "It's too difficult!".

But, on the other hand, it was quite cool.

I say, you do another one, even without a prize, or, like, you need to win three of these to get a prize, and you do a lot of them, 'cause it was COOL.

Thank you, WizO Bigsister.

Once they are through counting the chads.

If it looks like I'm losing, I'll immediately sue while claiming that since I created the Internet, I should automatically receive the prize anyway.:P

It seems BigSister is not watching us, as it has been three days and still no winner. I wonder if she's having computer problems or something?

I'm telling you it's like the Florida recount all over again. ;) Either that or she's waiting for whoever emails her the biggest bribe. I mean gift....gift. :D

Six days and counting.

My sincere apologies for this delay. Despite a rather nasty crash of our email system the wizards at the Wizards have resurrected my emails so I can now tell you the results.

The clues weren't too totally mean as there were two members who guessed the correct result on September 7th (GMT) after only 3 clues.
Ryltar Swordsong ~ was the first to send the correct result.
Jim9311 ~ was second

Ryltar I will be contacting Wizo_Paradox about organising your prize, and hopefully he will be in touch with you soon :)

Thanks Conan.

So when does the next set of clues start? If the WizOs are too busy to maintain the contest, I'm sure a poster would volunteer to do it.

Big times congrats Ryltar. For making you wait, they should give you two prizes. ;)

Aw shucks. I knew the answer at the "pointed remark" clue but I didn't see this thread until now!

I would have been the winner if I saw it earlier  :nonono:
